Chapter 5 - City Scavenger

Despite orders to set up retrieval missions for the anomaly by the World Alliance, several of the first attempts failed. Establishing a stable base on the planet seemed to be next t o impossible with the heavy tectonic activity, terribly overwhelming storms and climates. Most attempts had been made to station at the erstwhile Almos, where no life signature of any kind could be found, however, the weather phenomenon at this location were extremely unpredictable. The only option seemed to be to send troops to the ground directly and active scouts along with them. The active scouts seemed to be promising youth from the younger generation with top tier martial talents or from powerful families out to make a name.

The anomalous event on Puratynt B, while kept hushed, had become infamous galactically as a terrorist attack. A narrative was created around finding the terrorists through investigating Puratynt and the top talents of the world were bubbling with enthusiasm to visit this now mysterious planet on the edges of the Human confederation in the small kingdom of the Dwight monarchy.

Over a year had passed by with Red living in the city. Even though he had no martial arts talent or ability of his own, he had managed to find a way to survive in the city. Over time he had learned to understand these new species of biological overlords, the hunters that had mutated from what was humanity on this planet. They did not understand, or consume any of the resources already in the city. They had a terrible sense of smell but a powerful hearing ability and a screech that could paralyze the hearts of the strongest people. Fortunately, Red's now fifth realm of Pure Mind Threading had allowed him to become immune to this sonic attack, but a normal person would simply become paralyzed with fear and become food for these muscular and bulked up hunters.

Over time, Red managed to sneak into the city unhindered, managed to scavenge all kinds of supplies, resources and most importantly weapons. During this year, Red had managed to find caches of weapons as well as holographic tutorials and techniques on how to use them. From the plasma rifles, to snipers to the high frequency vibra-blade that he now kept on his person at all times.

Red had had several skirmishes with one particularly large tribe of hunters over several months. During which he got to learn and apply tactics to stall, assassinate and kill these hunters. Killing a single hunter would often be a herculean task, these creatures were extremely bulky and several rounds of plasma or laser beams would still not be enough to kill them. However, despite many scenarios of life and death, Red had started to become a nemesis that the hunters regarded as their mortal enemy, which made Red become even more discrete. The powerful hearing abilities would often be able to pin point his sniper attacks and try to triangulate and capture him, but he had learned to move quickly and disappear from their eyes using the guise of the storms, thunder and constant earthquakes. Unknowingly, Red had found the perfect enemy to practice and perfect urban and guerrilla warfare tactics.

One day, this monotonous cycle of constantly being in life and death in Red's life in the remains of the city of Deutera suddenly came to an abrupt end, when he heard a loud boom in the sky. A space ship! It seemed like it was out of control, but had been hit by a powerful bolt of lightning that damaged the force field around the ship and damaged its hull. Red saw it streaking past the sky crashing into the jungles outside the city limits. However, he wasn't the only one who had noticed the ship, almost all the hunters noticed the phenomenon. However, being tribal as they were most didn't dare leave the city, however, one group got curious enough to follow the trail of the ship. Red sighed, as he made his way as well, sneaking through his own isolated alley paths out of the city.

Red was conflicted about first contact with the outside, now that he had finally encountered it. He suspected that beside him most if not all other humans and turned into these primitive but powerful hunters. He anticipated that being found on this planet would to a great suspicion on his identity. While the hunters may be primitive now, with their inherent strength easily comparing to martial artists and their immense hostility to anything not like them, it is natural humans would consider them a dangerous threat should they ever turn into a space faring race. Naturally, Red understood that with his mysterious situation he would be under even more scrutiny.

The space ship landed in a grove of extremely thick tree jungle. A group of five people made their way out, two others were injured inside the ship.

"Atmosphere seems normal. The vegetation has reached tropical levels, the species appears to be unknown." A tall, thin man spoke dispassionately.

"Wow, this is totally unlike how the planet appears from the outside. It is so lush and such heavy life density!" A blonde girl smiled.

"Be careful, the trees here are carnivorous." A cold and emotionless looking woman with a black bob cut spoke out.

"Huh, oh my!" The blonde girl screamed, even the cool man raised an eyebrow.

The three of them were part of the youth who were supposed to scout the planet, the remaining crew were for their support. They weren't the only such group, all over the planet several hundreds of scouts were making their way at different locations. Their main goal, to investigate any anomalies.

At that moment, a herd of beasts appeared running in the direction of the group which had just landed. The supporting troops were busy setting up a perimeter, carefully using their tools to clear the nearby trees to set up a perimeter around their ship and set up a protective barrier. A sudden earthquake disoriented the group with a shocking serious of jerks and the beasts grew even wilder as they approached without restraint, as if looking at a new interesting prey.

The trio of youth didn't wait for their arrival. The tall man used a sword to cut through the animal, the power of qi could clearly be visible in the vibrations in the air. The blonde woman used a gun to shoot down several animals, but was surprised at their resilience, nonetheless, she took them down. The cold woman simply used her own fists to punch her way through the animals. A few minutes in the trio had brought in a few dozen carcasses.

"Nothing too challenging so far. " The man said. The supporting troops were enamored by the power displayed by these youths, they were after all ordinary soldiers with fairly rudimentary martial arts capabilities.

As the perimeter was being set up, the smell of the blood of the carcasses brought in a huge powerful beast which looked like a t-rex.

"What species is this? None of these monsters are documented to being endemic to this planet. IT seems like the species have tremendously mutated beyond belief.
