I wanted to get up and run away with her. I wanted to leave this place, but my body refused to move. What I just witnessed a few moments ago was too much for me to comprehend. I pity myself. Why am I so hopeless?
"Hiro?"
Xylvia was a few feet away from me when she saw what was going on just a few more yards away.
"Their...eating someone?"
"It was a little girl," I said deprived of all emotion. "One of them cut her head off and told the others to eat her..."
Xylvia clutched her fists. She looked like she was going to try to fight them head on.
"YOU SICK FUCK," she shouted at them. "HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO A GIRL?!! A LITTLE GIRL!!! WHY?!!"
Xylvia started to cry. The figures feasting on the girl all stopped to look at Xylvia. She looked at them with nothing but hatred filled to the brim in her eyes. She wanted to kill them.
The figure that killed the little girl looked straight at Xylvia. The figure then started to walk towards her with their sword drawn out.
"We are members of the Army of Darkness," the figure said. "Those will be the last words you ever hear."
Xylvia collapsed to the ground. I didn't know what happened at first, but what I saw next were deep gashes all over her body.
"Hiro...run..."
She fell to the ground and didn't move again.
I started to feel things that I've never felt before. I then began to have flash backs to all the moments I spent with Xylvia. From when we first met. When we had our first adventure in an icy temple. When we always had so much fun looking at the stuff we collected from our adventures. When we were trapped in an allegedly haunted house. When I accidentally walked in on her changing. When...we shared a kiss.
"Xyl...vi...a?"
My senses suddenly kicked in. I looked down to see Xylvia, lifeless and covered in blood.
"Hey...wake up," I said. "This isn't funny. We...need to get out of here...right? We need to keep the villagers safe..."
I started to cry. I felt the cold stream of tears running down my face.
"...no...Xylvia...please...no...no...NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!"
I felt like I was loosing my mind. Nothing made sense anymore. Why was she dead? Why did the figure do this to her? Why did I just sit here? Why did they eat that little girl? Why did they...kill...
"NOOOOO!!! ...AHHHHHUHUHU.... UUUUGGGHHHHAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!"
The members of the Army of Darkness looked at me while they feasted. It was like I was just putting on a show for them.
"DIE!!! YOU SHOULD DIE!!!! EVERYONE SHOULD JUST...FUCKING...DIIIIIIIIE!!!!"
My body suddenly moved on it's own. I found myself pulling out the sword that I got from the caves earlier and charged straight at them. I didn't even think I was using my head anymore. It was as if the only sense I could feel was sight, and the sight that I wanted was of seeing them getting cut into nothing but a pile of innards.
"DIIIIIE!!"
A roaring flame suddenly erupted on the blade. The flame was completely pitch black. I swung the sword with all my might and was able to struck one of the feasters. His body was cut in half with blood spurting everywhere.
"AAARRGHH!!" he screamed in pain.
Some of his blood sprayed on my face. I didn't care. All I wanted was to see them die. Nothing else mattered anymore. They caused this. They are the reason why this world has gone to shit. They needed to be eradicated. Every. Last. One.
The black flame started to spread throughout my body. I felt my eyes blazing. My entire body was burning, but it didn't hurt. Something was hurting me on the inside though. My heart? Yes. It was my heart. It felt like it was broken. There was no way for it to be fixed.
"YOU… DAMN YOU…IT'S YOUR TURN!!"
I charged at them with my sword but was suddenly met with a powerful strike.
"Silence..."
The figure struck me hard at my gut.
"KOOUUGHHH!!"
I coughed out blood from that powerful strike and collapsed to the ground. All of the black flames started to disappear from my body and sword. It faded into ashes and blew away.
"Everyone fall back," I heard the figure say. "We're done here. Someone take the therianthrope girl with us."
I saw one of them pick up Xylvia and walk off with the rest of the members. I reached out to her, trying to pull her back to me. Into my arms. I couldn't reach her. She was too far away, and she kept getting farther and farther away from me.
"No...get back here...dammit. Let...Xylvia go...p...please..."
I woke up to the rising sun. My body was aching and I could barely stand up. I loomed around and saw the entire village completely in ashes.
"So it wasn't a dream."
I remembered everything that happened. The village. The young man. The little girl. The Army of Darkness. Xylvia...
"Dammit. Why was I so weak? Why didn't I just run when I had the chance. If I did so, then Xylvia wouldn't be..."
I couldn't speak the last word. It wasn't something that I wanted to accept, but it was something that I couldn't run away from either. Xylvia was...dead...
I was about to cry again, but I slapped myself to keep from having a breakdown again.
"NO! Xylvia isn't dead. They just captured her! I know her. She wouldn't die from something like that!"
I held out my hand and saw a little black flame dancing around it.
"I'll train. I'll learn how to fight. I'm going to kill every last one of them. But first, I'm going to save you...Xylvia."
I pulled pulled out my sword and began walking to where those members went. I was going to.ho e my skills and train to become a swordsman.
"Don't worry Xylvia. I'm coming for you. So please...just...wait for me. I promised you that I would come back to you, and I plan on keeping that promise..."
