Chapter 12 - Time

Curtis sat on the chair in front of his dad nervously. His dad was looking at him suspiciously trying to find out what his son was hiding.

"Son, what were you doing this morning?" Jacob opened.

"Nothing, I just wanted to take a walk." Curtis lied trying to keep a straight face.

"You know that's not true. I heard you were shouting some weird stuff by the cherry tree." Jacob said.

"Who told you that? I wasn't even shouting." Curtis panicked.

"You did. Just now." Jacob gave a sly smile.

Curtis slumped to his seat and revealed everything, his hands doing supernatural stuff like what was written in the records of the books and how he was feeling fine, no better than before.

Jacob thought for a moment before saying. "You need to control this, from my sources, strange events have been happening all around the continent. If this is the reason you've awakened, then you need to take control soon."

...

Seeing Curtis leave the study. Jacob took a parchment from the table and started writing.

"Curtis' development has been rather odd, maybe he was awakened when he was born, the power only manifested now. Alfred did say that a person's eyes change once they awaken, Curtis has been like that since he was born, and now the eyes returned to a natural state where they share the same color."

Finishing his letter, he sealed it inside an envelope and branded his stamp on it. He wrote, an address in Cristas, to his father-in-law's home and put it in a box.

"I hope were not too late." he thought.

...

By the time Curtis and Jacob finished talking it was already time for some evening snacks. Curtis walked back to his room tired. He tried to activate the power he had but failed.

Laying down on his bed, having removed his shirt, he contemplated. "What do I do? How can I prepare for the future if I can't even practice." Curtis closed his eyes and started to think of what more he can try to utilize his power.

When he opened his eyes he was back in the white space, somehow knowing what to expect he just waited patiently.

"You're rather boring." A female voice said.

"Vera?" Curtis asked.

"I'm nothing like that pile of bones." The voice replied.

"Then who are you?" Curtis inquired, curious of who pulled him into the white space now.

"You don't need to know child, I'm just curious about who can give that old pile of bones hope." It replied.

Curtis felt a chill run down his back, the space somehow grew colder and he could feel it. Darkness seeped into the space and slowly turned everything black. Curtis knew something was wrong and tried to will himself awake, but he couldn't do anything.

"Don't bore me child."

Those were the last words he heard before he started falling into the abyss.

...

Curtis couldn't remember when he started falling, he couldn't wake up, he couldn't help but feel helpless as he kept falling. He wanted out but there was nothing he could do.

...

There were times when the voice would return, to check up on him, to see if he has fallen into the dark.

...

"Just give up."

...

"You are nothing."

...

Curtis was on the verge of losing himself, he didn't know how much time has passed, it was like he was stuck in an infinite loop.

"There you are child." He heard the warmth in the voice, he instantly knew who it was.

"Vera?" Curtis asked, unsure if he was just hearing things. The voice from before kept teasing him, asking if he was getting out anytime soon, or if he would just sink into the dark.

"Child." The voice said. "I'm sorry, I couldn't come earlier."

"Help." Curtis pleaded.

"I'll get you out soon child." It replied.

Curtis stopped falling, he could see light return in the space, slowly melding everything into the room he stayed in.

When his vision started to stabilize he saw himself in his own room, the place hadn't changed much. he stood up, recalling his bodily functions after he fell for who knows how long, struggling to stand up he stumbled and hit the floor.

Curtis heard running through the corridor, the door opened and he saw Millie, she was crying.

"Young Master, you finally woke up!"
