Taking in his surroundings, Curtis took his time looking around, his bed has the same white sheets it always had, the floor the same colored wood, his walls still looked the same, and his family's insignia mounted on his wall, a phoenix rising up.
"Young Master?" Millie's voice sounded out bringing Curtis back to reality, "Yes Millie?" he answered.
"You're finally awake, I have been so worried about you!" Millie ran to him, bringing him into his arms crying her eyes out.
"Why? I was just sleeping?" Curtis asked, "Yeah, but you've been asleep for about a year." She explained, shocking Curtis, "I've been out for a year?" he confirmed to which Millie just nodded.
"I need to go get Sherry, she'll be able to explain things." Millie said, standing up.
Walking to the door she turned around, her eyes still red, "Welcome back Young Master." she said before running out.
Curtis sat on his bed still shocked, "I've been asleep for a year?" he held his head. "Did I really stay there for a year?" he thought back to how he was falling, that dreadful dark place, the haunting voice, and the feeling of helplessness crawling through him.
...
Sherry walked through the door, but she was surprised seeing the look in Curtis's face.
"Young Master?" Sherry asked, concerned about the look on his face. Curtis looked dreadful, he was pale, sweating, looking like he just saw a ghost.
Curtis heard her call out, he turned to look at her, seeing the worry on her face, he eked out a smile, "Hi Sherry." to which Sherry didn't respond, feeling himself and taking a look at the mirror by the bed, "It's that bad huh."
Sherry sat beside him and gave him a hug, "I don't know what happened but you're okay now, you're safe here with me."
Curtis nodded, leaning onto Sherry. "Where's Mom?" he asked.
"They're not here." She replied slowly.
"Where are they?" Curtis asked.
Sherry pulled back, she looked at Curtis with crestfallen eyes, "The Master is in the capital, he is in jail." she paused to look at Curtis and continued. "And the Mistress is in Cristas." she said sadly.
"Wha-what? What Happened?" he asked.
"I do not know. They suddenly just came and arrested the Master and the Mistress, then your grandfather went to the capital to help them out but got the Madame free." she answered.
"What happened?"
...
So basically about a month afte he fell in that dark place. strange things started to happen around the continent, beasts of old began popping up out of nowhere and decimating villages and cities alike, they were like a flood that came out in the night and vanished once the sun rose. What was weird were the actions of the beasts, they were organized, once a town was attacked there were no survivors, and once a city was under siege, when the citizens started a counter attack they would retreat.
Other than the beasts, there was another piece of news that spread, that there were monsters that spoke the language of the continent, these beasts were the leaders. they never really showed themselves to the public, only to a certain few individuals.
His father, once spoke to one of them, said that they wanted a tribute from their territory in the form of people, to leave them untouched, which he naturally refused. I mean who would negotiate with terrorists?
And so, battles erupted around the territory, waves and waves of beasts came and went. Trying to destroy the city but it all stopped when a bright light surrounded the area, a barrier was erected and it prevented the foul things from entering, making the city safe. But that didnt stop the monsters from within, the noble houses within the territory were tempted by the beast. accusations upon accusations where directed toward the De Leon Household, saying that they colluded with the monsters and were sacrificing civilians and townsfolk. Even with the integrity that their house's name held, evidence that were presented to the crown were solid enough that their parents were jailed.
His grandfather was the only one who could do something about it and he could only save his mother. Curtis sighed, trying to process everything that he learned today.
Sherry stood up to leave. "I'll leave you to rest for now Curtis" she stopped by the door and just before leaving turned and smiled. "Welcome back."
...
Alone in his room Curtis sighed, thinking about how long he spent in that darkness and how everything was happening in this side of the reality. What happened here? Why would they get father and mother jailed? Curtis went to face his mirror in the center of the room, looking at himself he lost weight, setting these things aside.
"I'll take these things a step at a time, now I need to get back into shape." he thought while taking a spot on his bed, letting sleep take him for a start.
