"Who are you?" They both asked.
"I'm Ava, who are you? why are you sleeping here? are you a servant?" She asked.
"I'm Curtis, I live here, what are you doing here?" Curtis answered.
Taking a look at the girl she wore a stylish red dress and matching red shoes.
"I'm just taking a look around, my parents brought me here." Taking a look at Curtis she saw red eyes resembling rubies. "Why are your eyes weird?" she asked.
"I'm not sure myself, I was born this way." He answered.
"Let's go back to the house shall we? It's starting to get dark and I'm hungry." Curtis proposed.
"But I want to take a look around some more." Ava rejected.
"Fine, go by yourself, I'm hungry." Curtis said, walking away.
"You need to accompany me! You live here, so you know the place better than me." Ava said.
"Look, it's getting quite late, and I haven't eaten lunch. I'll escort you later 'kay?" Curtis answered.
Curtis heard a low rumble, looking at Ava, she was turning her head away. "You haven't eaten yet right? Let's go eat, I'll come with you to tour later."
"All right, I'll go with you, but only because you're gonna escort me later ok?" Ava smiled, almost hiding a blush.
"Let's go."
While walking Curtis thought about what he just experience. "I'll ask dad if he knows a Vera." Curtis thought, she said she was gonna awaken my powers. "What powers will I get? Will I be able to fly?" he contemplated.
"Why are you looking so serious?" Ava chimed, looking at him curiously.
"Hmmm, nothing, also why are your parents here? I didn't hear about any visitors from dad." Curtis asked, curious about who their visitors are.
"Well, dad told me it was to visit some friend." Ava replied. "What's wrong with your hands?"
"What do you mean, they're fi--" Taking a look at his hands, the right one was glowing red, like a hot kettle, the left was giving off a cold aura, like it just came out of the fridge. He felt powerful, but the heat on his right hand kept growing.
"What the heck?" Curtis ran through the garden, arriving at the fountain he submerged his right hand into the water. The moment his right hand went into the water it started boiling.
"I don't feel the heat, what is happening?" He then submerged his left hand, taking out his right. The water then started to freeze, at a pace visible to his eyes.
"Esbern!" Curtis shouted.
"Yes young master?" Moments later, Esbern came running into the garden.
Looking at the scene in front of him, the fountain was frozen solid, Esbern froze. "What is happening young master?"
"Give me your coat!" Curtis ordered.
Even took off his coat and gave it to Curtis. He wrapped his hands with it and told Esbern. "Get my dad and tell him to come to my room." He then ran to the Estate, entering through the side to avoid his mom.
Making his way into his room, he tried to avoid everyone. He didn't really want anyone else to know what's happening to him. Arriving in his room, he closed the door and sat on a chair. he thought about what the voice in the white space said. "I will now awaken your bloodline." it said.
His vision went blurry, he got dizzy and fell down from the chair. As he was losing consciousness he heard the door open.
"Curtis! What happen-
His vision went black.
...
Opening his eyes he saw that he is in his room. Looking around the room he saw Millie sitting on the chair beside him.
"Hey Millie, where's dad?" Curtis asked weakly, still feeling dizzy.
"Young master! you're awake. I'll go get the master." She quickly replied before walking towards the door.
"What happened?" Curtis thought as he looked at his hands, his right hand felt warm, while his left felt quite cool.
He heard running echo in the hallway. Moments later, the door flew open. Jacob walked in
"Son! It's good that you're awake, we have been so worried." Jacob said kneeling by his side. Taking a good look at his son. "What happened to you? When I got to your room, you were passed out, what happened?" He asked worriedly.
"I-I'm not sure myself, my hands started glowing, like what happened in the books." Curtis revealed.
Jacob went silent. "Son, you'r eyes, they're both red, you've awakened." He whispered, he then signaled to Millie to get a mirror.
Curtis looked at himself and saw that both of his eyes were now painted red, they looked like rubies.
Curtis tried to say something about his meeting with the being called Vera, but the words wouldn't come out. He recalled their meeting, she said I can't tell anyone, why?
Jacob looked at him and thought he was surprised. "What happened exactly? Tell me everything."
Curtis thought for a moment then recalled everything that happened, waking up and meeting the girl, then walking back to the house only to have his right hand emit heat, and the other cold. His dad held his hands and he could already tell the difference of the temperatures between the two.
"Your right hand feels like it's been sitting in hot water, while your right is as cold as winter nights." Jacob nodded, confirming his story. But then he recalled something, "Wait, you met Ava? Did she see anything?" he asked.
Curtis looked troubled, trying to remember if Ava saw anything. "I'm not sure."
"You rest, I'll talk to the guests about this." Jacob stood up and left.
Curtis recalled the book his dad made him read, the stories about people with the ability to fly and others with powers to level mountains. He imagined the things he could do with his new found power. But his talk with the being called Vera worried him, what was he going to save the world from? He recalled the monsters and the dark beings called unknowns.
"If I fight, I'll need to understand this." Curtis decided, he would train this power.
...
"Alexis, we need to talk." Jacob said to his guest. "Privately." To which the other man nodded, following Jacob into his study.
"Look I know this is the first day we've met since we were kids. I need you to keep what happened today a secret." Jacob said seriously.
"Of course, we can't have other people knowing about this, not now when there's been weird events all over Constella. Beasts have been running rampant, tremors, even the birds are migrating." Alexis replied smiling. "I only came here to visit my childhood friend, I won't put you through hardship."
"Since were already here, we have a lot to talk about Alexis, please sit." Jacob said, pouring each of the a drink.
