Rosch wasn't stopping, using his magic to run home at full speed. He didn't care about anything else, even if he would be exhausted at the end, he needed to be at home fastly. If they can't hold the walls, he needs to evacuate his family and residents.
The time he needed back was an astonishing 4 hours. He almost doubled the speed, while traveling with his magic, but the cost were his calves again. They were at their limit, pumping blood up and down, while cramping.
He stormed out of the forest and looked at the walls.
His face was still a bit pale, because his thoughts were running in every direction at what may happen right now.
But, the sudden color change in his face showed how relieved he looked.
They weren't here yet. Rosch ran towards the wall and surprised some of his warriors, as they almost attacked their Chiefling.
"Bring Vilcet over. I have to talk to him.", The sudden order sounded dreadful, as if even a second can't be wasted. One of the warriors jumped up and started to run towards one of the two biggest trees, in which Vilcet lived.
Rosch looked at the forest, while his face had a terrible expression. He didn't know, how the enemy split their forces. If they stayed smaller to be faster or more to have some destructive power behind them later on.
Rosch only waited for 15 minutes till Vilcet rushed over.
He was a bit out of breath.
"What is going on? Why are you back already?", Vilcet said, knowing the answer could only be bad.
Rosch told him everything, that they lost a team and he believes that the team must have met a bigger group, maybe even a small army or even half the force.
Vilcet was stunned and looked a bit pale, too.
" Shit. To think they would throw away their pride and use tactics and diversions. It seems they acknowledged your kind, as more than just animals.", Vilcet said a bit annoyed. This move was genius, because they predicted that the Goblins would go on the offensive, with almost no indication from their side. They were followed by a small group lead by Randan. The rest stayed behind the walls. Whoever it was had done some homework or had really keen senses on war itself.
" Grandfather. You have to go and get every warrior in this village. Even those, who aren't from our side. If they won't listen, kill some to make them obey. We can't let them behave like Norbert's older generation. Only Bog's and Leonard's side will be reasoned with.", Rosch said.
He couldn't let anything go wrong now. If they came through the wall, they wouldn't have the capacity or might to fight back like the first time.
Vilcet went to do what he was ordered to do, while Rosch just stood there and waited. He just hoped his warriors would be first to come back.
Hours went by, as Vilcet finally came.
"Every warrior is on the wall. I had to kill some of the Ogar mixes. They really are selfish and only do things if they want to do or are getting forced to do it.
I put civilians up the mountain to roll down the rocks, if they see some Nightwalkers. That is a job that doesn't need warriors. There are only two warriors on each sentry tower with those civilians.
But I would guess that some will run away before the Nightwalkers will clash with us. Many didn't seem to believe that you could lead the defense.", Vilcet told his grandson.
Rosch looked a bit annoyed. This was the reason he wanted to take over the village. Randan has ruled with terror and brutality. Most of them aren't loyal they just have no where else to go and as soon as this place gets far worse, they pack their things and run away. With loyal beings everything changes. They need a home they want to protect and have a leader they trust. Only then are you capable to successfully build a home from nothing.
"It's okay. Our other teams will come back soon, and after that Randan and the rest, too. We just have to hold this position as good as we can.
And those that want to flee, let them flee. They would make weak guards anyway. We need those that want to fight. Their reasons to fight isn't important just the will to do it is. ", Rosch said calmly.
Vilcet nodded. He wouldn't want someone, who was thinking about fleeing at his back
"protecting him".
"How about we give up the front wall and only defend our territory walls? Gargaschar's, no now Roxer's territory is huge. The most amount of beings lived there. If we only have to defend our walls, it will be much easier. All our walls together are shorter than Roxer's southern wall. ", Vilcet said. It was a cruel plan, because the other warriors of Randan and the rest would get killed. Even the children and females would get killed.
"It sounds like a plan, but not at the cost of the females and children. It still feels wrong after we did it the first time. And we need them. We won't get many, but when I want to take over this place we need them. To hold that place with just half or less of the former villages population will be hard. ", Rosch said while frowning. He doesn't like to remember the screams of the females and children that got massacred.
They stood there for a while and discussed a way to take the enemies on. And after a while, Rosch and Vilcet started to smile. They had a plan that had potential, but was very risky.
"Are you sure?", Vilcet said. But Rosch just nodded.
With that Vilcet went away and the entire territory of Rosch started to move.
"Now, who will it be? My subordinates or the enemy, who will first arrive.", Rosch thought with a light smile. He should be nervous, but somehow he liked to be in charge. In his mind, something foreign started to awake. It wanted to fight and conquer.
Rosch waited for a long time. Almost an hour went by and now the night was darker than ever. He knew they had more chances in the morning, but he couldn't believe that the Nightwalkers was was wouldn't try to attack at night.
And like he guessed. The first beings to appear at the edge of the forest was a huge Nightwalker. He was probably the fastest of them. Only a bit and the attack would happen.
Rosch looked at the entire southern wall of the village with concern. His wall was packed with beings, while Roxer's southern wall was a bit sparsely defended.
Rosch eyes wouldn't leave the forest edge. Sweat drops formed on his forehead as he poured magic into his eyes to see further and better. He needed to see where the enemy would attack first.
Meanwhile, at the forest edge.
"Listen my fellow warriors. Now is the time to take revenge. Let's murder all those bastards in there. I don't want even one of them left alive. Not even little babies. NOW GO. ", Zeke said his rage only growing.
For him to accept those animals as capable got on his nerves.
With the shout, a black wave af beings stormed the walls of the village again. Zeke was in the middle of the running crowd, as he smiled.
" Let's break through their weak point again.", Zeke thought.
Rosch, who looked shocked at the amount of enemies that left the forest, wiped away the sweat on his forehead.
He looked at the amount on his hand and then back at the Nightwalkers. After that he looked to his left and right.
Young beings with crude armor and weapons or some females and elderly were staying with Rosch together at his southern wall.
"They fell for it. Now get into our trap.", Rosch smiled brilliantly.
The Nightwalkers stormed the wall of Roxer. They wanted to break through the same place they did before.
But to Zeke's surprise, more and more beings appeared and not only that.
Huge bows, who were covered up suddenly shined in the moonlight, as the first wave of ten huge arrows shot through the enemy of Rosch.
The Nightwalkers present, didn't knew the terror of those arrows. Only Zeke and another handful did. And they suddenly went down on the ground.
"GET DOWN.", Zeke screamed.
But it was to late. They were more this time. Over 150 Nightwalkers attacked at the same time. They attacked with everything they had left, while the first time only 40 Nightwalkers attacked Roschar's wall.
The huge arrows hit brutally, killing two or three of the Nightwalkers in an instance. They were nailed somewhere deep in the forest.
Every Nightwalker looked shocked and they suddenly started to separate from each other, but the arrows didn't stop and another round came flying. This time only 7 since three bows broke.
And another volley, but this time only one or or two occasionally two were pierced and killed. The arrows kept flying till all bows were broken. It still did a huge amount of damage, as over 30 Nightwalkers were dead or at least send flying and incapable of moving anymore.
The now spread out Nightwalkers were marching forward again. Only Zeke stood stil.
"What the fuck is going on? Did they have so many warriors left? Their attacking force was pretty huge, too. It can't be. We underestimated them, but to such a degree, can't be?", Zeke thought doubtfully. His mind was in chaos, as he looked over to the other wall were Rosch stood.
He looked closely and was shocked after a while. Those at the other wall looked smaller and weaker. Almost like civilians and not warriors.
" Shit, those fucking animals got me again. And they got me good. I can't stop now. Or those on this wall will attack us from behind while attacking the other wall or while retreating. But the fire, smaller arrows and white powder will be coming next. That is to dangerous. Should I retreat and accept some casualties or try and break through? ", Zeke thought. Right now, both ways would cost him warriors.
He looked at the wall in front of him and saw that they got out their crossbows, but no white powder or fire barrels.
" Don't they have anymore of those? If that is the case an attack may be better.", Zeke thought still knowing of the danger, but going home without accomplishing anything hurt his pride to much. Even more, if he can't kill the Alpha, those beings here could grow to become very dangerous.
" Shit. I need to try. ", Zeke thought as he went forward, not ordering the retreat.
Rosch on the other hand had to move now. He started to prepare his subordinates, those who weren't on the wall. They already started to evacuate all beings into his territory, but that would take much more time. They needed to buy it, with everything they got.
