Chapter 32 - Leaving the house

Elizabeth looked at the man who once dealt with her mother's case. A part of her heart was thankful for the heavens that the man she has been searching for ages was now right in front of her. But another part felt heavy when she heard Aaron's words. She was utterly shocked to see that Aaron was aware of her mother's case. Elizabeth looked at Aaron in shock with a mixed emotion of disbelief. The man whom she trusted and loved the most left her because of the testimony she gave and didn't even try to meet her and talk to her to know about the things that happened. He left her when she needed him the most. She pitied herself to love a man like him who didn't even trust her.

Aaron smiled at her when she was blankly staring at him. "Who would've thought that my nephew would marry in my absence," said Anthony Whales to Aaron before giving a hug to Aaron.

"Things just happened," Aaron curled his lips and looked at Elizabeth who was looking at the two men.

"It is time to cut the cake since grandpa is here," said Aaron. Everyone was gathered in the garden while Micheal was cutting the cake. After the cake cutting, Elizabeth tried to approach Anthony to talk to him but the man was busy with the guests. Elizabeth made several attempts to talk to him but none were successful. Thinking that it would be better to try another day, she headed towards her aunt and her sister, Roseline to spend time with them. "I never thought we would meet, Ms. Carter. I mean, Mrs. Winchester," Anthony smiled.

"Even I never thought that I would meet you not at least in this way," said Elizabeth.

"How have you been?" he asked her.

"I married your nephew, so how do you think my life would be?"

"Boring?!" Anthony laughed. "He is always busy with his work and seldom spends time with others. You must've felt lonely, right?"

"Not every time," she replied.

"I have been looking for you, Mr. Whales," she said.

"Is there anything I can do for you?" he asked her.

"About my mother's case," she said. Anthony looked around. "Follow me," he said and took her to a place where nobody could find them. "I told you at that time, do not get involved in the case. You will be targeted."

"I was a child at that time but now I can protect myself and..."

"You cannot. I would've found the real culprit but the case was forcefully closed. Do you know what does it mean?" he looked at her and his words came out in a whisper. "There is someone who is behind all of this and would surely attack if we try to solve the case. You were a child and I didn't want you to lose your life."

"That is why I want to know that truth. There is someone who killed my mother and that woman. The person behind this murder should be punished. I don't want people to think that my mother killed that woman due to personal grudge."

"Sometimes it is better to let go of things from the past and move on," Anthony advised her.

"I cannot. I am going to find the truth. I have someone who could help me and all I want you to do is to tell me about the case and nothing more than that," she said. Anthony sighed and nodded his head in agreement. "I'll do my best to help you but make sure that you will protect yourself," he said. Elizabeth thanked him and left the place immediately. Anthony turned his head when he heard the sound of withered leaves. "Fiona?!" he said and asked her what was she doing there.

"I was taking a stroll," she answered and left. Anthony looked at her in suspicion before he returned to the garden.

Elizabeth searched for Liam but he was nowhere to be seen she tried to call him but his phone was switched off. After the party came to an end, Aaron and Elizabeth left the party after talking to the elders. The car was silent ad always. While leaving the party, Elizabeth could notice a change in her mother in law's behavior. She could identify that Aaron's mother was behaving differently. Elizabeth looked at Aaron who was driving, "Why didn't you tell me that you knew about my mother?" she asked him. "Get down. We reached home," he said and alighted from the car. Elizabeth followed Aaron to the bedroom. "I asked you something, Aaron," she demanded an answer.

"Because I didn't want to talk about it," he replied.

"Did you think that it was unnecessary to even meet me and talk to me before believing whatever you saw?" she asked him.

"Yes. The truth was in front of me and why would I believe the words of a girl whose mother killed her friend!!"

"Do you think I would take on my mother's side if she has done something wrong?"

"No. I don't think because I know you would take your mother's side even if she was wrong," replied Aaron.

Elizabeth opened her wardrobe, taking out her clothes and dumping them in her suitcase, she said that she didn't want to stay in his house anymore.

" If you leave my house, you're company...."

"Do you think saying something about my company would make me stay here?" She asked him. "You thought that I married you only because of my company, didn't you?" Elizabeth turned towards Aaron. " I knew that you hated me and I married you even though you said this marriage was only a contract. All I thought was at least I could be with you after marrying you and hoped that we would clear the misunderstandings between us. You married me to show your uncle, Steve, that you are capable of doing anything, didn't you?"

"You have no right to talk whatever you want when you know nothing, Lizzy," Aaron grabbed her hand.

"Lizzy?" she snorted. "You lost your rights to take that name from your mouth. And what do you mean that I know nothing, tell me, I want to know," she said and saw him release her hand.

"You have no answer, right?" Elizabeth looked at Aaron who remained silent.

" I never understood what made you leave me. In these years there was not even a single day where I stopped thinking about you. I told you that I still love you on that night and you said nothing, I thought things would be fine between us ,I was wrong. Today, after knowing the truth, I blame myself for loving a man like you, Aaron," Elizabeth pointed at Aaron with her index finger and said in anguish and saying this Elizabeth took her luggage and left the room. Aaron's hand was balled into fists at the end of his stiff arms when he saw her leaving his house.
