After working, Angela became tired and exhausted. As a ten years old kid, it was hard for her to work for hours consistently. She was about to leave for Leonardo's room when Rebecca reminded, "Take a shower first sweety." Angela sniffed herself and realized that she reeks of sweat therefore, she went to her room; picked a dress from the closet and went to shower.
After showering, Angela asked Rebecca for Jennifer. Rebecca instructed her to go out in the lawn where she might find Jennifer. Angela arrived at the lawn which was quite large there she looked around for Jennifer.
After strolling for a couple of minutes in the lawn she found Jennifer who was sitting in the garden chair and staring at the setting Sun. Angela moved slowly. Jennifer was drinking tea when she saw Angela at a distance while holding a book in her hands, she uttered in surprise, "Oh, so you are free now!"
Angela nodded. Jennifer said, "Please let me finish my tea." Angela accepted with a slight bow of her head and waited. Jennifer put the cup on the side table and said, "Please come closer dear I want to tell you some things before I take you to Leonardo." Angela stood before Jennifer.
"Angela dear! There are some things I want you to keep in your mind while you spend time with my grand-son. The first thing I want you to do, is to never ask Leonardo about his parents. If he asks you then tell him they went out for some business and will be back after some time. The second thing is—that never talk about school. And the last thing I want from you, is—to treat him with love and care. Just remember these things whenever you play with him. That is all I want from you. Alright sweety?"
Angela nodded in response. "Very well! …now, let's get you to his room then." Jennifer got up from her chair. "Follow me!", Jennifer ordered. Angela followed behind.
After few minutes they went upstairs and stood before a closed door. Jennifer was about to knock the door, but she stopped and muttered to Angela, "Let's give him a surprise. You stay by the door when I call your name out loud then walk in, okay?" Angela agreed with a delightful smile. Jennifer rubbed her head and knock the door.
Knock! Knock!
"Leonardo! I am coming in!", Jennifer informed and walked into the room. "Please come in grandma!"
"What is my baby doing?", Jennifer entered the room and noticed that her grandson was reading a book on the bed. She sat beside him and asked, "Were you reading the book?"
Leonardo nodded his head and looked past Jennifer. "Grandma! where is Angela? Why didn't you bring her with you?"
"Well, I came here to give you a surprise." Jennifer replied with a smile in her face.
"But I want to play with Angela! I don't want any more surprises!"
"My~ My~ You suddenly like your friend more instead of your old grandma", Jennifer pouted.
"Come on grandma! You know that I love you more than anything else in the world!", Leonardo confessed with a grin.
Jennifer giggled at his sudden confession. "Oh my! I wonder you'll become a lady killer one day."
"What?". Leonardo asked because Jennifer lowered her voice at the last part.
"Nothing dear! I wonder where your new friend might be!", Jennifer changed the topic.
"Maybe she forgot", said Leonardo. Jennifer examined his doleful expressions. She sighed and said, "If Angela come here, would that make you happy?"
Leonardo looked Jennifer and replied with a penchant smile, "Yes!"
"Alright then! I want Leonardo to close his eyes"
"But why?", Leonardo asked quizzically.
"Because, I am going to preform magic and Angela will appear." Replied Jennifer. "Grandma you can't perform magic" Leonardo reminded.
"I know I failed last time but this time I will surely succeed. But it is only possible if Leonardo listens to me. So, close your eyes or my mana will run out."
"Okay!", Leonardo agreed and closed his eyes.
Jennifer saw his closed eyes and warned, "No peeking, alright!"
"Okay no peeking!", said Leonardo as he put his hands on his eyes, "Okay I am ready."
"Ahem! –ahem!"
"Strength of day, strength of night~"
"Give me strength, beyond my sight~"
"Hear my voice! ANGELA! ~ Appear! Before Leonardo's sight!"
Meanwhile, Angela was waiting outside. When she heard her name, she quickly entered the room and noticed Jennifer was chanting some words like a caster. Whereas, Leonardo was sitting beside her while covering his eyes with both of his hands.
Jennifer glanced at Angela with a smile. She gestured the latter to stand before the bed. Angela quickly stood before the duo quietly. Jennifer whispered to Leonardo, "You may open your eyes!"
When Leonardo opened his eyes and saw Angela standing before him, he cried in amazement, "ANGELA!"
Angela smiled sweetly after witnessing his reaction. Jennifer chuckled and said haughtily, "See! I told you I can perform magic."
"Wow! Grandma this time you really did succeed. Can you do more?", asked Leonardo excitedly. "No! my mana is finished right now. It will take a whole month to refill my mana so I'll show you magic next month, okay?" Jennifer knew that Leonardo would demand something like that so she dodged it by simply making a reasonable excuse.
"Now you can play with Angela, but don't bully her or I'll punish you later, alright?", Jennifer gave him warning and left both alone in the room.
Angela was feeling a bit nervous around him. Leonardo, the sole heir of Guryon family, who owns wealth, status, power and influence. However, Angela was just an ordinary girl with no strong backing. Angela just stood there and gazed at the floor, not knowing what to do in such a predicament because this was the first time, she was treated so friendly by someone; half her age, wanted to befriend her so badly and wanted to learn the sign language so that he could understand her.
On the other hand, Leonardo was staring at Angela intently. He put the book aside and climbed down from the bed. He faced Angela with an innocent smile and offered his hand for a handshake, "Hello, my name is Leonardo Guryon. I am very pleased to meet you Miss Angela Evergarden."
Angela was completely baffled by the latter's formal introduction. The reason which made her bewildered wasn't just the introduction instead, it was his good mannerisms and how respectful he was towards someone like her.
"Don't you want to shake hands with me?", Leonardo asked when he noticed that Angela wasn't shaking hands with him.
Angela tilted her head a little, she caught a glimpse of Leonardo and directed her gaze downward again. She anxiously nodded; she lifted her right hand with uncertainty and shook it with him.
The little girl, with blushed cheeks wanted to pull her hand back but before she could do that Leonardo dragged her towards his bed and said, "Come with me! I want to show you something." Angela couldn't resist so she followed him to his bed. Leonardo climbed on his bed while Angela stood before the bed. Leonardo saw her standing before the bed, he patted beside him and invited her, "Come Angela! Sit here with me!"
At first, the girl hesitated for a bit and refused but after consistent insisting by the boy Angela changed her mind and sat beside him. She found it rather comfortable after sitting.
Leonardo saw a book in Angela's hand and asked, "Is that a story book?"
Angela gave the book to Leonardo. "Can I read it?", he asked before accepting. Angela nodded. The boy loved reading books so he opened the book and found out that it was a sign language book rather than a story book. "Woah! So cool! So, this is how you communicate with people!", Leonardo looked at Angela with interest. The girl smiled sweetly and nodded in response.
He was deeply immersed in reading the book whereas Angela looked around the room after she felt somewhat calm.
When she entered the room her center of attention was Jennifer so she couldn't take a quick look of her surroundings. But now Angela realized that the room was really big like she saw in the movies. It was filled with all kind of toys for kids around her age.
Angela noticed a shelf with lots of story books and a large screen was installed on the wall. These were all things which she could just dream about. What really got her attention was a stuffed big white teddy bear in the corner of the room. She kept staring at the bear when Leonardo interrupted her, "Angela! Look at this!"
"What does this sign mean?", asked Leonardo.
Angela looked at the sign and was about to explain when Leonardo instinctively put a pencil and notebook in front. "Here write it down so I can learn."
When Angela touched the book and pencil, she felt somewhat nostalgic. Soon Leonardo interrupted her by asking her, "Are you okay Angela?"
The girl nodded and wrote on the notebook, "Yes. Why do you ask?"
"Because you look sad." Leonardo replied.
"But I am really happy right now!", Angela wrote.
"Really?", Leonardo asked.
Angela nodded. She was really impressed with his kindness and eagerness of learning her language so that he could understand her and spent more with her in future. She grabbed the pen and wrote some texts on the notebook she just accepted from the latter.
"You really want to talk to me?", she wrote. "Yes, I do. If I don't then how would I know what you are saying." Leonardo replied earnestly.
"But why?", she wrote. "Because you are the only friend, I am allowed to make except for aunt Amanda and granny Rebecca."
"Okay. I will teach you the sign language." Wrote Angela. She looked at Leonardo and gave a sweet smile.
"Yay! Thank you so much Angela!", Leonardo yelled in happiness.
