Chapter 6 - A New Beginning

Kali suggested that Tahir take a walk around the compound to familiarize himself with the place. Tahir thought that would be a better use of his time rather than listening to the same explanation he'd received earlier.

As Tahir began walking around the realm, he noticed the automatons going about their daily tasks. He saw one automaton heading towards the alchemy tower with a basket of plants. He noticed another automaton carrying a basket with black ores walking towards the forging tower. If they could feel emotion, you'd think they were happy given the pace and efficiency with which they were completing their tasks. As he took a deep breath, he noticed that the sky was dark with 2 moons hanging in the sky, one larger than the other by about a half. The larger moon was an azure blue while the smaller moon was a deep blood red. Although the color and number of moons seemed a little weird to Tahir, he felt it was at least more colorful than the gray moon on his home world.

Tahir decided to take a walk towards the alchemy tower. He figured since he needed to make a pill to resolve his mother's poison sooner rather than later, it would pay to familiarize himself with the place. As he began walking towards the alchemy tower, he noticed that the building wasn't necessarily getting any closer. After walking for 20 minutes, he realized he'd underestimated the size of the towers and the estate. In total, it took him an hour to walk from the manor to the alchemy tower.

Frustrated at the long walk, he attempted to contact Kali. "Kali. Can you hear me? Just how large is this place?"

Kali's voice sounded in his mind. "Ah Tahir! Give me a moment. I'm currently suppressing your mother's poison. This will give you time to learn how to make some pills that will help get rid of the poison, but to answer your question, from center platform to one of the towers is approximately 20 kilometers."

Tahir looked at the tower again. He didn't think it would be that long of a distance. Is there a way to move around faster? Why would this place need to be this huge?"

"Young man, imagine a few hundred thousand people coming in and out of here frequently. We need space for everyone. However, that reminds me. I deactivated the automated transport system since I was the only one here. I'll reactivate it as soon as I'm done treating your mother. Give me a few more minutes."

With no other choice, Tahir continued to walk towards the alchemy tower. After another quarter hour, Kali appeared next to Tahir. Tahir immediately stopped walking and stared at Kali with a dark expression on his face. Kali nervously looked away from Tahir and said, "If I'd known you were going all the way to the tower, I would have informed you of the distance and activated the transport system. When I said talk a walk around, I meant around the area of the manor. The manor is a little bit larger than it seems from the outside."

Tahir interrupted Kali. "First, where's my mother? How is she feeling? Why didn't you bring her with you?"

"Oh her. I sent her back to your house. She should be resting comfortably as we speak. But don't worry, she'll be safe." At this moment a bronze floating platform with two chairs arrived next to the duo. Kali pulled Tahir onto the platform and they both sat down. "There are many of these devices. Some are simple discs that only allow you to stand. Those are for individuals. Then there are multiple passenger transport devices that allow for seating. Your family members used to use these to travel all over the compound while having lively conversations and exchanging ideas and insights. Alas, it's been very silent for a very long time. Last I counted, it had been just over 100,000 years since the last member of your family visited."

"That long? By the way, you said this is an entire world. How large is this world? It looks like there's additional land in the distance beyond the towers."

Kali's face was a little more rosy than usual. "We'll just say that I'm a fairly huge world. It took a long time for this world to form around my core. There's plenty of places outside of the compound populated with beasts and other animals. There's all types of terrains and ecological systems here. Remember, this was the training realm for the family. But for now, you should never leave the compound. There's a barrier protecting the compound from the various beasts populating this world, but there's nothing to prevent them from snacking on your flesh should you leave this area."

Tahir looked a little guilty at that moment because he was indeed thinking about exploring the area beyond the tower. Kali saw the look on his face and smirked. He thought that Tahir clearly forgot that he could monitor some of his thoughts. He knew what Tahir was planning to do. So, he offered a friendly warning since it would be a shame if the last of the Kali line ended up in the belly of one of the beasts roaming around outside. At this moment, they arrived at the alchemy tower. It took about 2 minutes to arrive there once they boarded the transport device. "Ah! We've arrived. Now let's get to business." Tahir looked up at the tower once he stepped off the platform. He saw that the tower was gargantuan. Standing next to the tower area, he couldn't see the top of the building. Standing in front of the tower was somewhat intimidating.

Kali noticed the slight shock on Tahir's face and chuckled. He continued to speak. He felt he was being somewhat wordy, but one needs to remember that it's been about 100,000 years since he last had a conversation. He deserved to speak as much as he wanted after so many years of isolation. He would never admit it, but he was checked and surprised himself when another ring registered with him. He'd thought the family line had already died out. He was somewhat depressed before Tahir accidentally bound his ring because it had been a few million years since the Ancestor last visited this world. He felt abandoned.

Kali started pointing towards different areas as they walked through the gate and he continued to explain the features of the alchemy tower. "Now that we're here, look over to the left of the entry gate, you'll notice another small teleportation platform. When you enter the realm from now on, you'll be transported to the platform that you designate." Once they fully entered the gate, Kali opened his arms wide to the side. "Behold, the alchemy tower! Towards the left you'll see the garden area. While we do have extensive gardens in another area of the compound, this is the learning garden. You'll see some plants there. You can use this area to learn how to properly take care of different herbs. Toward the right, you have the pill repository. I lost count of the number of pills stored there. We regularly monitor the storage and discard any pills that have lost their potency. We have an animal husbandry area near the manor. We just let them eat the pills. Well, most of them have become spirit beasts since they spent so many years in the environment. And since no one here needed to eat, there's more animals than I care to count. Suffice it to say, that even if this place saw that traffic it did in its heyday, we'd still never run out of food. There's also a normal vegetable garden over there. There's a preservation formation on the vegetable and fruit storage. So, those won't go bad, but I digress. You'll also see the cauldron room and the learning area. The learning area is where you'll find references on herbs and your family's alchemy arts. Anyway, congratulations! I've finally grown tired of hearing myself speak. So, you tell me what you want to do. Where do you want to go from here? After all, this is a new beginning for you."
