After staring at her with a cold gaze for a few more seconds, the guy eventually turned his back to her and returned to organizing his clothing rack. He even moved it even farther to hers before going downstairs which slightly offended her.
Look, it's not like she deliberately did it okay? She didn't even know someone was there.
She stayed there for almost an hour, waiting for the doll to burn to ashes. For safety reasons, she waited till the fire died out inside the metal bin. After seeing that it was already burnt to ashes and the metal trash bin already slightly cooled off, she picked it up and returned to her apartment.
She went on with unpacking the gifts and letters before organizing them to their respective rooms.
"Ugh, I want pizza." She complained, staring at the labeled packed meals inside her fridge. Even if she was already discharged, she was still under the doctor's orders to consume nutritious meals for a few more weeks. And so, Lin Lin assigned a nutritionist for a whole month and had her assistant deliver her meal for the whole day every morning.
She groaned but still gave in. She reheated her dinner and begrudgingly finished it while sending complaint messages to her oh so loving manager slash best friend. After cleaning up, she stayed all night in the study reviewing the scripts she received and deliberated on which project she should work on for her comeback after a long break.
The next morning, Ding Jia slept in for the first in her life. Before, her body clock wakes up at five am in the morning due to her habit of waking up early for makeup for filming, and even if she doesn't have any schedule for that day, she would still automatically wake up around that time so she eventually got used to waking up so early every day.
But after spending all her time sleeping during comatose and staying in the hospital for weeks, her body clock was completely messed up and Ding Jia found herself waking up way past breakfast.
"Hungry…" She grumbled as she left her room. She immediately noticed the food on the table and thought that her assistant must have arrived early in the morning to deliver her food today. She ate her late breakfast while catching up to news and on her Weibo for updates. Her discharge yesterday was still quite a hot topic as she saw a lot of people congratulating her and wishing her a fast recovery. She saw quite a bit of hater in the midst but they were all drowned by the messages of concern and congratulations from her fans.
Ding Jia couldn't help but smile and feel warm from their messages. Her mood lightened up a bit as she finished her breakfast unceremoniously.
She was on her way to the study to continue her last night's script review when she heard a bark right outside her door. Her footsteps halted as soon as she heard the sound, glancing at the door.
Seems like her new neighbors have pets, huh.
Ding Jia wanted to ignore the bark of the dog outside however, she stopped on her tracks when she felt a gust of cold wind coming from behind her. She didn't know why but she felt compelled to look behind her. Her chest was heavily pounding as she was torn between opening her eyes or just keeping them perfectly shut.
At the back of her mind, there was something screaming to her that she shouldn't look back at all. Alas, her body betrayed her mind completely.
"Arthur, calm down." She heard another voice as she was walking over to the door when she didn't see anything—anyone behind her.
Her hand clamped onto the knob and without hesitation, she twisted it open revealing a man and a dog standing just in front of her door.
The man fell silent noticing her presence, but Ding Jia didn't even properly look at him at all not realizing it was the same guy she encountered yesterday. But her eyes fell upon the direction to which the dog was barking at.
Her whole body tensed as she saw to whom the dog was barking.
There, in full glory, a woman with barely any clothes standing with blood pooling at her feet. Bruises on her arms and other parts of her body were visible, but what struck her the most was the empty and lifeless eyes that stared back at the dog angrily barking at her.
Ding Jia feared that she was going to have a heart attack.
But her heart really almost stopped when she watched that bloody woman's gaze shift from the dog, into hers.
