Chereads / The Trolley Problem / Chapter 3 - Destiny

Chapter 3 - Destiny

Nothing could be heard. It's like your sense of hearing has been temporarily disabled. Time feels the slowest when you're not doing anything. It's like time isn't moving in the world. 1 second has passed. 2 seconds have passed. 3 seconds have passed. 4 seconds have passed. 5 seconds have passed.I closed my eyes. I'll do anything to make myself occupied. I heard a voice speak to me.

"I'm surprised you can endure this much and still remain normal. Everyone had been changed. Except for you. I'm tired of this. I'll let you go for now."

I opened my eyes. Staring at the wall mounted clock in confusion. It felt as if time flew past me. What the fuck was that voice telling me? One of my classmates must be playing a prank on me. I looked around and the silence almost devoured me. No one was playing a prank on me. Must be my imagination.

We heard a knock. A person. Our teacher. She simply said "2-C?" My classmates nodded in sync. Except for me and Maya. We we're exhausted by that catastrophic event to even think straight.

"Now, now. listen, this is our first meeting. This calls for an... ELECTION! Elect your class president. NOW!"

My classmates raised their hands and pointed them at me. Their actions seeming robotic. Or more accurately, artificial.

"Fufufu, a wise choice. This young man must have a lot of influence on you all if you're that quick to decide. Very well. Now, elect your Vice president."

Once again, my classmates did the same action. Now, pointing at Maya. Is this what they call "destiny"? This is fine as well. I have an excuse to hang out with her. But the paperworks. I'm not that good at handling them.

"Oh! fufufu. It should be obvious. That girl has experience on being part of the student council. She's a student leader. Very responsible. A good choice! Please show our class president the ropes."

Oh. That was not destiny. Just common sense in voting. But I wonder, why am I elected as the president? Maya seems more deserving of that role. Still, I'm thankful that my classmates think highly of me. Still, this just confirms that no one was pulling a prank on me.

"Mhm mhm! The election is done. Our two class officers, please go to the front and say what your plans are. Let your classmates know that they chose the right people to elect. GO!"

"I'm Maki. Maki Asagawa. I'm fine with being called Maki. I'm probably a year older than all of you but don't hesitate to approach me anytime. I like three things. Anime, games and good looking girls. I'm looking forward to a great school year, classmates. I promise, I'll make sure that none of you would get hurt. I promise that no matter what, I'll make this year fun for all of us!"

This seems too familiar. The words keep on flowing. I did not mess up anything and I'm not nervous. This is unusual. It's like I have been saying this line for as long as I can remember. This feeling of Déjà vu is very strong. It's intense. It's painful. But still, I manage to smile in front of my classmates.
