"The date draws near. It creeps up to all of us unsuspectingly. The show goes on. As the world.... turns once again."
"Yes. Thank you." I smiled. The woman in charge of the clinic returned to her desk and busied herself with paperwork. I continued to care for Maki while he's still asleep. These days, I just don't feel like myself anymore. It's like I'm a different person. "But it's better this way, isn't it?" I asked the still unconscious Maki. "Why are you... doing this?" he said, talking in his sleep. "Uuu..hmm?" I said, uncertain on what he meant. He must be having a dream. it's not uncommon for people to speak in their dreams. I ate my lunch inside, half of the contents saved for Maki's consumption. I woke him up to make him eat. "AH, NO, I FAILED AGAIN! DAMN!" He shouted. Startling me and the clinic personnel. She rushed on to where we are nervously asking if Maki's okay.
"Mmm...? Where?" Maki said, still half asleep. "This is the school clinic, are you fine? Anything hurts? Do you want water? Painkiller, medicine, vitamins?" She asked nervously, voice still shaking either from Maki's sudden scream or for concern of Maki's wellbeing.
"Please eat your girlfriend's lunch, there's little time so please eat faster. Oh but uh you know... uhhh. Don't choke on it please eat carefully. I'll get water for you so please wait."
That lady is very nice. She's like a caring mother. The school was right to choose her to be in charge of the clinic. She got water for the both of us, smiling nicely.
"You're not my girlfriend though."
"Though I wish you were" He says under his breath.
"Ha?" I said, unsure if I misheard him or not.
"Well do you want to be my girlfriend?" Maki said. He must be half asleep still.
The school bell rings and chimes to our ears.
"Oh, let's hurry to the classroom! We're both class representatives so we must leave on a good impression." I said while Maki finishes up his food. We drink the water and offered to wash the glass cups we drank from.
"Leave it to me! Go hurry, hurry!" She said reassuringly. She's very dependable. I hope that someday, we can pay her back.
Steps echoing through the halls, we both charge towards our classrooms as the bell rings, signaling that the next class is about to start in just 5 minutes. Luckily, there weren't much people on the halls so we arrived to our room pretty fast. Maki wipes the sweat on his face and slouches on his chair. "I'm exhausted." He says with long, drawn out breaths. "Just stay there." I said to him.
I stand in the middle and clap my hands as if to say "turn your attention to me!" heads turned toward my direction as I instruct my classmates to clean their desks and prepare the textbook for the next class.
"And the world, seizes to spin."
