Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Not a dream, but not real either.

[Surely you remember a few weeks ago? I was smaller back then, less than half my current size, but still.]

A sudden look crossed the dragon's face as it's eyebrows went down in annoyance. [Oh yeah, you totally threw me off your chest! Is that how you thank someone for bringing you back from the dead?]

Kire speechlessly looked at the dragon's face, it's ears sticking out to the side with horns beginning to show bumps at the top/back of its skull above those ears, and a pointed snout, sharp with a point like a triangle, and with a hint of lighter purple-red at the top of its snout.

'It had yet to open its mouth, but it should have some teeth grown in if it's reached such a size by now...'

Kire knelt before the dragon and bowed.

"I've never heard of anyone other than a god bringing someone back from the dead, but who knows what magic is capable of. Nevertheless, thank you oh mighty hatchling."

~ ~ ~

I stared at the human prostrating before me with a mixture of amusement and pride filling me.

"Oh might hatchling"... that is certainly a name I could get used to.

How fun.

Wait if he absorbs magic from here... won't I lose a whole bunch of water and air magic?

No wait. I absorb world energy to replenish my magic like a normal awakened. So my mana regeneration is feeding both of us.

Doesn't that make this human like a parasite off of me?

'But...'

I looked up at the star protected by the barrier that could break at any moment, given that I'm completely unaware of how strong it is.

'Every time he uses magic, it uses some of the magic out here until it regenerates, which means that by however small an amount, the force smashing into the barrier decreases.'

So there's no harm and in fact some very, very small benefits for me from him existing.

So I can just barely classify this as a symbiotic relationship with me giving a lot more than I'm getting.

[I wonder if I could figure out how I created the bond allowing you to access this space, and therefore make more like you.]

"You... want people drawing off your magic?"

[Thats not your business human.]

Silence reigned for a few moments.

[What is your name?]

"Kire."

[What is a properly draconic name?]

"Sorry?"

I shook my wings out. [I have no name yet, so I kinda need something to be called.]

"Oh... so you don't have a naeme? Wouldn't a creature of your power have one already? Usually you use an alias as a name based off the naeme right?"

[...] I stared at this human.

[Okay what the actual fricking hell is a naeme.]

Kire froze. "Uh... it's like... the true nature? I don't know, it's just said to be something all magical beasts gain at a certain level, and to reveal it is usually deeply personal, and holds a lot of significance."

He shrugged. "I've only heard tales of a creature giving its naeme to someone else when they regard them as a friend or when about to eat them but carrying conversation before the hunt, to show pride."

[What about with others of their kind?]

"I've got no clue I'm sorry to say." Kire awkwardly sat there.

After a good awkward silence with this human, I finally shook myself(yes like a dog, call me cute and I'll eat you!), and asked a question.

[Can you explore?]

"What?" Kire looked up in confusion.

[Will yourself to move, and draw upon the wind within this space to help you.]

Kire stood up, and focused.

Air magic ought to be able to make him able to fly by picking him up, in theory... but he'd have to hold focus and ignore the turbulence the entire time. It shouldn't work-

His will melded perfectly and he floated off the ice.

"...how the FUCK?!"

[This space isn't quite real, or at least, doesn't work by the same rules. It's a dream for you, isn't it? Just fly.]

I flapped my wings and took off, flying upwards towards the storm of wind and lightning, and after some hesitation Kire followed.

I turned my eye and thanks to the wider field of vision a dragon has, I saw him flying with his arms spread open.

'He looks kinda like a Peter Pan impersonator.'

I focused forward and flew around the clouds and thunder, finding a cyclone that drew into a calm eye. I flew into the eye of this storm, merely a small gear in the great machine that was the massive storm the air magic was.

I focused, drawing the moisture in the air together into rain and hail, and formed a platform of water and ice within the calm.

Kire flew past me and alighted upon that sheet of ice.

[See? I'm not sure you or I could completely alter these massive amounts of magic, but on a smaller scale, you can manipulate the magic you have as much as you like.]

I thought of something and hastily added, [Perhaps don't go towards any of the Magic's other than air and water.]

Kire nodded, lifting a hand to gather lightning from the surrounding walls of the tornado and making a rope of lightning he whipped at the walls.

"This is a good place to practice and experiment huh."

Yeah... I guess it is.

I took off, and he watched me fly away.

Kire looked around himself, gathering moisture and wind to create hail/icicles he shot into the tornado.

"A dragon who can give magic as if it were divine power... am I the first follower of a newborn god? No, he isn't a god, it's just elemental magic, natural and without any concepts tied to it."

Kire leaned back.

"What the hell... so I died. For real. And he just brought me back with... the same kinds of magic he gave me?"

Kire sat up in shock.

'Could I bring someone back to life too? But if have to learn exactly how he did that... I don't feel comfortable speaking to such a higher existence.'

Dragon's were feared, powerful enough to melt mountains with fire, or destroy towns with wind, drown cities in the ocean, and tear apart the earth.

And this hatchling was stronger than any other infant dragon Kire had ever heard of. The pure amount of magic around him proved that.

~ ~ ~

I continued to fly about.

'How long will I be here? Does this last as long as I sleep, or is there a specific way out?'

I flew around, and saw the earth magic was changing.

Now it was still an asteroid field of all forms of earth, but they were constantly colliding and exploding into such small particles it looked like massive clouds of sand, only to pull back together into asteroids again.

All the magic was evolving in time, just like my star had when it started creating electricity.

I blinked as everything began to go fuzzy, my vision swimming as everything blurred...

And I opened my eyes to the morning dawn glaring in them.

I flinched from the bright light and rolled over onto my feet.

I set my front legs far in front of me and stretched out like a cat, feeling a pleasant crackle in my spine before relaxing.

I nudged Korven with my snout. [Wake up.]

He made a growl-grumble noise and turned away from me.

'Okay...'

I turned away and walked towards the worm's corpse, minus a few chunks.

And I burned it all to ash with indigo flame.
