Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Fly! Or... not.

"Hmm... it's warm."

A man remarked walking into the central cavern.

His subordinate tilted his head quizzically.

"The entire cave system is hot, it's the home of a fire dragon?"

"No... this room is."

The owner of the ice spear rose to his feet. Looking around he raised a hand.

"This..."

Panic flew across his expression, and he ran to the corpse, grabbing the ice spear... only

To have it crack and shatter into many pieces, like glass.

Only powder was left, and then the wind picked it up and seemingly threw it away like a casual dismissal of trash!

"This..." he was speechless, staring at his prized weapon, now gone.

"How did this happen?!" He screamed, falling back.

"My spear is... g-gone!"

The leader snorted. "The dragons latent magic must have destroyed its core... I guess we underestimated the power a dragon holds in it, even weakened."

He walked to the exit, and pulled out his own spear; a weapon of dark wood, with a large fang lashed to the end glowing with green light.

His hand flickered faster than eyesight, and the owner of the ice spear...

"Puchi!"

His head blew apart with a hole blown straight through it, like a bullet.

Green light spread through his veins, poisoning him even as his heart stopped, his brain destroyed.

The leader flicked his spear to remove the brain and blood, and continued walking for the exit...

Only to suddenly twist and strike!

"RAAAAAH!" A high pitched scream echoed!

After stabbing his spear at an odd angle seemingly into the corpse, he grabbed it and swung it, dragging a slightly furry, dull red dragon out by its wing which he'd stabbed!

'Shit shit shit! FUCKING GODDAMN THAT HURTS!'

[Hurry up! You're going to DIE!]

I tightened the muscles in my wing around the spear as best I could, grabbing it even as it sent fresh waves of pain.

After my own body rotting and decaying with me trapped in its shell, you think pain will stop me?

A feral light lit up the small dragons eyes, and instead of flying off the spear towards the other bandits, to be encircled as the leader planned, it stuck on!

And right as the spear reached the end of its swing... the dragon let go and seemingly jumped off.

The leader turned in shock as the dragon flew like a twisting missile, one wing folded ragged and bloody against its body, the other curling out, making it spin as it flew.

Right out of the cave through the gap... and off the cliff.

The dragon hurtled into the sky... and fell in an arc, strangely beautiful with the fanning blood flying off.

And disappeared into the treetops below.

"...boss?"

He sighed. "A baby dragon destroyed the ice spear...? I wonder how much magic it must hold."

He looked at the mothers corpse, a sickly yellow light flashing in his eyes.

'The magic is gone? Did... it absorb its mothers magic? Dragons can do that?!'

"Take the scales for armor and the meat as food, but don't expect to get any use other than magic resistance and durability. It's magic somehow has been eaten by its offspring."

He turned away from his men, looking over the woods.

'Run little dragon... for I am coming.'

<3 days later>

A deer bent to the grass, eating in peace.

The herd was in a clearing, but this young one went a bit further, a tree between it and the clearing.

A small feeling off danger trolled through it, and its head swung up, sniffing for danger in its panic.

It's head swiveled, on alert...

In the wrong direction.

A shadow pounced from the bush behind it, and it twisted in midair, it's tail flicking out like a whip and curling around the deer's neck, slitting it's throat with the small blade of bone forming on the tip of the tail.

The deer his the ground, gasping for breath, but the dragons jaws closed on the back of its neck, grabbing with gums that didn't yet have proper teeth, and savagely twisted, breaking its neck.

The herd, hearing the commotion, ran in their bounding leaps, leaving the dragon and his prey.

"Haaaaah..."

I sighed, a strange noise from a dragon... maybe? Do dragons sigh?

This was... tiring.

3 days. 3 days since the "goddess" had last spoken.

[My work is done... I'll give you some basics on magic use, but your life is mostly yours to live. On the continent you're currently on, its mostly humans and dwarves, elves live mostly on the continent to the west.]

[Northwest, between and above both, a large island chain with its largest island being big enough to be its own kingdom, with smaller islands scattered in a long line is the ancestral home of dragon kind... you'll find it easier than you think.]

And then she was gone.

Using light magic I slowly have been healing my wing, figuring out how healing works bit by bit.

I found light is a bit too... gentle? It's not enough power.

So I try making fire out of light magic, cause apparently mental imagery is important to magic, and surely fire is a good intense form of power?

The result, a form of golden fire that sparkles with specks of silver, is a lot better, and healed the hole I'd gotten halfway through after 2 days in like 10 minutes. So... yeah.

I may have other elements, but my physiology is still a fire dragon, so by adapting those elements to become forms of fire, they channel through a lot easier with more power.

So far I have Indigo Flame, which is VERY HOT, from pure oxygen and fire.

The Ice Fire, Helium and Ice Energy fused into plasma.

Finally, Life Fire, the fire formed of healing energy and light, with a unicorns power of purification and healing.

3 types of fire... I haven't made a "wind flame" or anything like that, so I have a largely wasted amount of wind magic that I only use to enhance my Indigo and Ice fires.

Also I still can't breath anything!

It's annoying! If I focus, I can create a fireball, similar to how a "mage" or wizard might, but I can TELL ITS WEAKER. Like... I have channels for magic, and right now they're changing!

And I guess I'm gonna have to wait for it to settle before I can use them for a breath attack, which will be guaranteed to be more powerful than any other magic.

I guess my biggest development...

Is really my appearance.

I looked down at a puddle, studying myself once again.

My dull red skin had darkened to a royal purple, with a 4-pointed white star in between my eyes, like what you might see on a horse.

My eyes glimmered with 3 bands of color, Gold flecked with Silver, Indigo flecked with pale green(mint green?), and ice-White with pale green flecks.

Green being assumed as wind, my eyes reflect my types of fire... which if most fire dragons have red/orange/yellow eyes, makes sense.

My scales haven't developed, but I've started growing... fur.

My tail now has a bit of bone coming off as a blade, which is barely a pocketknife at 1 inch, but I'm growing FAST.

I think absorbing a lot of magic is accelerating my changes... but my body only grew like 1/10th!

I have a small bump on my forehead... where my mother had no horn.

'Please don't grow a unicorn horn. Please no.'

My tail has the most fur, with it making a 1inch curtain towards the tip, and I have a bit of fluff coming out underneath my ears... which have grown to look like a wolf's or canine?

Seriously what the fuck?

Ears, 2 horn bumps between them, and fluffy hair below...

Fine. I look like a cute lil baby dragon. Happy?
