Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Oops

Huh.

'This human doesn't smell like total shit. Neat. My nose thanks you, good sir, for knowing what a bath is.'

The human in question was a young boy really, not exactly what I'd be calling a man.

Somewhere in his 15-17's I'd guess, but medieval society on earth didn't have a concept of "Teen" either, just childhood and then adulthood.

He had leather armor which DID stink, but it smelled natural so I didn't mind.

His sword on his belt looked awkward, like it was a size too big, and he seemed to forget it was there when he kept accidentally hitting it against random rocks.

In other words...

'This looks like a defenseless kid forced to fight in some sorta bullshit militia.'

I suppose my current goal is west right now? To get to that dragon-kingdom(?) area, the island chain that's too big to be an island chain.

...no I can't ask him. Humans aren't trustworthy. Go ahead and call me a hypocrite for that, but even when I was human I didn't trust other people for shit.

Those crappy doctors didn't actually give a shit, they made excuses and covered their asses to create deniability cause they couldn't cure me.

If any of them was willing to take any risk I might've died easier at least, or suffered less, but they "couldn't take such action as it may threaten chances of treatment success if a breakthrough occurred."

Nice to hear, but maybe I'd just prefer to be allowed to FUCKING DIE. Even if I hadn't gotten a second lease on life it'd be better to be truly dead than to suffer in that longer than I needed to.

And with that mental argument with myself, I slid backwards as best I could, intending to leave unnoticed by the young man... right as lightning shot of out my wings.

I don't know who was more surprised at the sudden electrical storm blasting out of my ass and limbs: me, or the poor kid who just got tased and thrown a few feet.

I froze, the trees around me blackened by the sudden electrical burst, and stared at the kid.

'...what the ACTUAL FUCK? Is he dead? Also what the hell was that? Why would I have lightn-'

I froze.

Wow. I'm stupid.

You know how the idea of my entire magic so far is a star with an atmosphere that is constantly being IONIZED? Funny thing about ionizing a gas... it means electrons are jumping from one to the next as they're shared.

In other words, as you ionize a gas, energy is released which is both light and heat, which I translate with some imagination to light and fire magic.

But those electrons released with massive amounts of energy in the creation of cold flame? How the helium atoms are super cold but the electrons are very hot?

Huh. What's a flow of powerful electrons called again... a flow of charges with high potential energy... why golly-gee Mr Dragon, I think you might have some GODDAMN ELECTRICITY THERE!

I might be a little stupid. Or just oblivious.

But right now...

I cast a glance at that kid.

Ooh yeah. His hair is on end. That boy is FRIED.

I jumped down, stretching out my wings in a faltering, awkward glide down to the forest floor, and sniffed him.

Well. He smells like toast. That's a bad sign.

I put my head against his chest, my increasingly large and fluffy ears perked up like a dog's, and listened... to nothing.

'Shit. I killed him.'

I feel like my reaction isn't quite right. Killing that lady left me a bit nuts, but I think I'm just too shell-shocked and surprised by what the actual fuck just happened to feel guilty.

I cocked my head a bit, thinking, before stretching my wings over his chest, trying to mimic what I'd seen when wandering the hospital and visiting the ER a few times.

'Alright, let's try this: CLEAR!'

"ZAP!"

Lightning, electric blue and tinged with white shot out along my wings and into his chest.

His entire body jumped as his muscles clenched, but otherwise... nothing.

But I... felt it. I could FEEL the lightning pass through him and rip into his muscles.

I tried to remember the sort of electro-sonar I'd just gotten of his body, readjusting my position a bit.

'And 3, 2, 1! CLEAR!'

"ZAP!"

His body seized again, and this time I felt the lightning pass through his heart, but it moved down certain tracks and largely missed.

Readjusting again I focused on how it moved, how it would move based on where, trying to think of something I wasn't sure would work.

I tried to... move the air through him I guess. I passed my magic through him and used it as a conductor, a chain of air in a very strange state, right on the edge of ionizing into ice fire, and chained the lightning straight through!

'CLEAR!'

"ZAP!"

This time two current of electricity shot out of each wing, one bright blue and the other purple, and they pulled towards one another as they moved, intersecting in his heart-

"GASP!"

He surged upwards, gasping for air only to immediately cough violently... and throwing me off in the process.

'Ouch you ungrateful little shit. I just defibrillated you, don't THROW ME!'

He fell back onto his back, breathing heavily as coughs erupted seemingly at random, wracking his body.

'Oh right, it's kinda my fault you died. Alright, maybe you're not a total shit.' I mused to myself, getting back onto my feet and shaking out my wing I'd landed on a bit awkwardly.

I turned and bolted away, feeling I'd done enough, not really caring what happened from now on. 'Good luck in life kid! Don't die to dragons!'

Kire walked back to the camp, the battle ended, and the soldier on guard raised an eyebrow.

"What the f-did you fight an air-type magical beast and LIVE?!"

"Uh... felt more like I got hit by a massive wall of lightning to be honest. I don't remember a whole lot." He laughed a bit shakily, twitching a bit in pain.

What was he supposed to say? 'I saw a fluffy, winged wolf with blue fur sitting on my chest after it blew me up, and then it ran away!'

Oh yeah, he totally wouldn't get made a fool of.

Shaking it off he ignored it as best he could, trying to pat down his hair, and entering the camp, a common soldier once again.

A shiver of pain stabbed into his chest, and he breathed heavily as he shuddered from a sudden chill.

'What... the...'

He stumbled to his tent, and as he grabbed the fence post a flicker of energy zapped between his fingers and the pole, unnoticed by him.

As Kire fell flat on his blankets, lying down as his body involuntarily trembled, his handprint burned into the wooden tent post remained...

Huh. I wonder what happens when you run magic through your own body?

I'll have to experiment with that when I get to a cave or resting place. After all, of my ambient mana caused THESE changes in my body, what might happen if I do it on purpose?

...I feel like I'm missing something here. Foreign magic plus being put in a body equals undetermined change. Riiiight... yeah no I have no idea what's slipping past me, other than an instinct telling me I'm missing something.
