Chapter 2 - Leaving Home

"What, You want to participate in the Fleeting Cloud sect exam?", questioned Auntie Song with a dumb look on her face, "I've told you a million times in the past that you are not becoming one of those despicable cultivators and that you are to stay here and become a farmer like the rest of us. If you want to do something other than being a farmer you can go to the big city up north and start a business there."

"But if i become a cultivator then you won't have to see me anymore Auntie Song", whispered Fan Huang.

"Huh speak up i can't hear you", said Auntie Song

"I said if i become a cultivator you won't have to see me anymore", shouted Fan Huang.

"Also when i become one I'll come back to the village and give everyone loads of gifts."

"Don't even think about become a cultivator because when u go to the exam you wouldn't even pass the test and when you come back you will make a fool out of yourself. Can you even see the top of Mount Tai Fan Huang? You are overestimating yourself too much", said Auntie Song

Fan Huang stared at Auntie Song with big eyes begging for her to allow him go.

"There is no chance you are going, Also go and get me my favorite wine before you go to bed. Make sure you stay in your room because we have some guests.", Ordered Auntie Song.

Fan Huang then hopelessly dragged himself to his room. Fan Huang lied down in his bed as he heard the sounds of his Auntie Song having a fun time with her "Guests". Fan Huang really wanted to become a cultivator. The chance to soar in the skies. He wanted to be free. He felt that the stronger you are, the more free you are. If he was strong enough he wouldn't have to listen to his auntie. That's hen he got the idea of something. During all of Fan Huang's years of him being in Auntie Song's care he had never ever disobeyed her word. He knew that if he didn't do it he would receive punishment in the form of a beating. It would make his skin crawl when he thinks of getting beat.

During when Fan Huang's grandpa was alive he once said that he was gonna die soon. Fan Huang said to grandpa that since he so strong that he would never die. He said that all things have an end.

2 weeks later his grandpa died.On the day of his death he was talking to his grandpa and asked him how could he ever become a cultivator. His grandpa looked at him and smiled. He then pulled out a small bag. He then passed it to his Auntie who was also there.

"If Fan Huang were to ever become a cultivator. Give this to him", whispered Grandpa "That is my last wish." his grandpa's eyes then slowly lost color, from blue to white. His head rolled on its side and he breathed his last breath.

"No grandpa don't die! *Sob* *Sob*."

Fan Huang refused to leave his grandpa's bedside that day. Then we was taken into his auntie's custody.

"Oh yeah you feel so good", moaned Auntie Song in the next room. Fan Huang knew that his Auntie always put her most precious things in a blue teapot in her tea cabinet.

Fan Huang knew that the blue teapot held the bag his grandpa gave his auntie. It was his key to become a cultivator. Fan Huang left his bed and sneakily exited his room. He tip-toed his way to the tea cabinet. Th tea cabinet was made out of an old dark wood that smelt like jasmine. He opened the cabinet very carefully and gently lifted the teapot out of the cabinet. He then place the teapot on the table and opened the lid.

inside of the teapot was 2 golden rings, a piece of gold and one bag. Fan Huang reached and took the bag and then put the teapot back. He then proceeded to take some food out of the cabinet and looked at the ground in front of him. He then looked behind him and saw his old house behind him. As he looked up he saw the moon

It felt like someone was smiling upon him. He smiled back and then took one final look of his home before leaving.

The Myriad mountain range was inhabited by the Fleeting Cloud sect. The Myriad mountain range was about a one and a half week's trek from his village. That's if you were and adult though. Fan Huang was just an 11 year old boy. It would be amazing if he could even reach there in just over 2 weeks. By the time Fan Huang reached there the exam would've already been over and he would lose his chance.

If Fan Huang were to reach the myriad mountain range it would be a miracle.

Along the way the forests would be home to wild animals that could easily kill Fan Huang. He would need to sleep in the cold and survive and ration what little food he had. Day after day his food slowly ran out and his energy was slowly being sucked out of him. Fan Huang knew that if he didn't make it in time he would die of starvation and lose the chance to become a cultivator. It was not surprising that Fan Huang smelt unpleasant right now. After being in the bush for a couple of days you could tell he smelt bad.

After 2 weeks of walking down a dirty path of pain he saw a couple people in the distance walking up a set of stairs. Fan Huang's eyes lit up as his body unconsciously walked itself to the stairs. A couple of people were walking to the stairs and one of them was a young man by the name of Tang Feng. His father was a big merchant in the city and using those connections managed to make a living for his family. His first child was Tang Feng and seeing that it was a boy decided to make him the heir of the family business. However the boy wanted to become a cultivator but the exam was being held when he was 16. However his father used some of his connections to allow his son to take the test.

As Tang Feng was walking to the set of stairs he saw a disheveled hair child behind him with black circles under his eyes.

He quickly ran to the child and as he got a closer look he took a whiff and blocked his nose with his hand as the child smelt very bad.

That child was Fan Huang. After walking for a gruesome 2 weeks and causing a miracle he finally found himself in front of the stairs to the sect.

Fan Huang gestured to his mouth.

"Do you need water or food?", asked Tang Feng.

"Wa-wa-water", mumbled Fan Huang in a tired voice.

Tang Feng then pulled out his water bag and gave Fan Huang a couple of sips.

"So what brought you out here?", Tang Feng calmly questioned while crouching down in front of Fan Huang.

After wiping his mouth of water he passed the water back to Tang Feng and replied "I'm here to become an immortal cultivator"

"I doubt you have any chance to become a cultivator in your condition. The test starts in 20 minutes and we also have to scale these set of stairs too you know", said Tang Feng.

"Well my life depends on this exam. it's do or die", replied Fan Huang.

Tang Feng's eyes looked at Fan Huang from top ad bottom and suddenly turned his back on him.

"Hop on", said Tang Feng.

"Wait what?", wondered Fan Huang.

"*sigh* If you don't want to then i guess you can climb the whole set of stairs by yourself then", sighed Tang Feng.

Before a moments notice Fan Huang quickly jumped on Tang Feng's back without warning and they walked up the set of stairs. At the base of the set of stairs was a big arch with a board of writing on it. It read 'Fleeting Cloud Sect'.

Fan Huang had a look at the writing and before he knew it he was sucked into the writing.

"Hey watch yourself! Your getting sucked into the famous Fleeting cloud sect master's writing. My dad said before i left to not look into the writing cause you might get sucked in. Some say that if you look at it long enough you might receive enlightenment." Quickly Fan Huang snapped out of it.

As they Tang Feng gave Fan Huang a trip up the stairs up the stairs some people whispered to each other about how the son of a big merchant was giving an unknown child a free ride up the stairs.

"Isn't that Tang Feng. I heard that instead of inheriting his dad's he decided to become a cultivator. I heard that he only has mediocre talent. His father only sent him to the exam to teach him a lesson."

"I heard that he once proposed to Xiao Ru but was immediately turned down before he could continue"

"What an embarrassment. If i was his father i would just stop living."

Fan Huang looked at Tang Feng and could tell that he was barely able to stop himself from getting angry. It reminded him of himself, Hopeless and being criticized by everyone.

As they were walking up the stairs they could only see clouds above them blocking their view and nothing else. After walking for for the time it takes for an incense to burn they reached an area of land in front of them with multiple people waiting. The land was just bare stone and at the front of the crowd was a bald old man sitting on a small rock in front of the whole crowd

Tang Feng put Fan Huang down and then wiped his forehead of sweat and then sat down near a tree at the side. Fan Huang then sat next to Tang Feng. Fan Huang could hear Tang Feng's heavy breathing and could smell his sweat.

Fan Huang promised that one day he could pay back the favor to Tang Feng for this.

Suddenly the old man's eyes opened.
