Chapter 7 - The Beast Clan

Elias entered the tent with his father but was confused when he saw a metal cage with two beds inside. Elias looked at Erik weirdly, and Erik looking at him, saw his confusion, and tried to explain.

"We are not safe at night in the beast tribe especially when the full moon is out,"

Elias confused asked, "why wouldn't it be safe and what are these beast-men I've been hearing about all day."

Erik was surprised he only now realized how isolated his son was. Most boys his age heard tell of the beast-men since they were small. The Beastman tribe had become somewhat infamous. Though one good thing came out of this, Erik didn't have to explain beastmen were not evil creatures to his son.

Erik began to explain what beastmen were. He talked about their supernatural strength, their heightened senses, and their curse. Erik also revealed the actual reason they came.

"The reason we came to this tribe is to make peace with Ansel the Packleader. We had a war with them seven years ago, and now many of his tribesmen have activated their curses. It wouldn't be due to having more wars with these beasts."

Elias surprised by how much his father withheld and was a little angry when he asked, "So there are beast-men that can turn into wolves, and you came to sign a peace treaty with them. Aren't they abominations, unnatural creatures that feed on human flesh? How could you be so friendly with these fiends?

and What else aren't you saying?"

Elias and Erik were now sitting on their beds that were set side by side. Erik took his time and explained his reasoning. Erik knew that most parents in his village would have just yelled at their son that they were right, but he wanted his son to understand the Job of Chief Elias would likely inherit.

After hearing his father's explanation, he understood his father's concerns. If Erik did not make peace with the beast-men, it would likely be their villages doom. Deciding to go to bed for the night, Erik blew out the only candle present in the tent and laid on his side facing the cage.

As Elias was trying to go to sleep, he remembered an incident when Erik saw Ester with him. When she explained, she was with him the entire time, Elias saw the relief in Erik's eyes. Elias knew Ester was a small woman someone only a foot taller than him how could she protect him from The Beastmen.

Erik and Elias were lying in their beds. The room was silent, and nothing was lighting up the room except for moonlight that poured in from the open tent flaps. Earlier Sin refused to climb into the metal cage and so he stood guard at the tents opening. Sin now had been sleeping peacefully, and then he was suddenly watchful, and a howl rang out that woke Elias and Erik.

Erik Grim voice said, "its begun."

The howls rang out incessantly, but none of them came close to the tent. Elias closed his eyes tried to imagine himself somewhere else. He hoped one of the Changed beastmen did not try to burst their way into their cage.

Erik seeing how scared his son is said, "Don't worry, Most beastmen Chain themselves when they transform. I'm the blacksmith in all of the surrounding villages, and I supplied Ansel with Chains that wouldn't break even when they transform."

Erik saw that Elias calmed down slightly but was still on the edge of panic. Knowing this was something his son would have to overcome on his own, he decided to leave his son to his fears. Erik had always thought that Elias did not experience enough hardship yet. Alva was still trying to shelter him.

As Elias began to hyperventilate, His serpentine ring started to glow softly. It was barely noticeable if Elias did not observe it carefully; he would have thought it was the moon's reflection. Elias felt a wave of calm rush out from the ring and circle through his body. A woman's voice spoke, "calm yourself, Elias, I will protect you." These words projected into his head.
