When Alva took the baby into her home, she looked into his eyes and was surprised to see that they were platinum. Some might have had an extreme reaction at such an unnatural feature, but this just made Alva even more fond of the boy. Alva had always wanted a baby sadly, no matter how much she tried, she could not bear a son for the Village chief.
Thinking of the Village Chief Alva wondered what he would do with his new adopted son. She would have to find out when that Big Oaf Erick came home from the pub where he passed out yesterday night.
Alva moved to her bedroom and walked to this babies new changing table. Alva moved to change the linens that still wrapped him when she noticed a glint in the sheet and took it out from underneath the baby. She held an unbelievably smooth cloth in her hands something she knew couldn't possibly be from the village.
On the linen there were two words beautifully written in nordic rune, the sheet said Elias Essel.
Alva was looking at the naked baby giggling at her, and she said, "I guess we know what to call you now, don't we Elias."
Elias giggled even louder as if he seemed to like the sound of his name. Elias grabbed the linens that wrapped him before and began playing with the edges as Alva heard the sound of heavy boots outside.
Alva walked to the door slightly anxious but ready to see her husbands reaction to their new baby son. A burly man with curly red hair and a large beard walks into the house hungover from the last days drinking session.
"Erik what took you so long you oaf you were supposed to be home hours ago."
Erik cringes a little bit at his wife's mistreatment but could say nothing against it she was right this time. Though his wife often said she was always right.
his wife opens her mouth again, and just as she expected her shrill and preachy voice to come out her tone softens, "Erik, we have a new guest."
Erik comes out of his stupor and shows a surprised look, "really who?"
Alva leads Erik to the bedroom where they find little Elias waving around a hammer that was laying on the table beside him. Erik was surprised at his strength and almost began to applaud the little boy. That was until his wife ran frantically to take the hammer out of his hands.
"Erik meet our new adopted son," said Alva, still holding the hammer from before. Erik had his mouth open like a fool.
Erik finally gathered himself and said with a hint of anger, "how can you make such a decision without me."
looking at Erik's old grumpy face, Alva waved the hammer threateningly at Erik.
"didn't you always want a son, Erik."
Erik seeing the look in her eyes new she had decided and so gave in completely, "what a strong boy he will make a great smith someday."
Even Alva was somewhat surprised by his sudden change of attitude. Erik wasn't all that angry, to begin with though. He had always wanted a son, but he and Alva could never conceive one. Now he had a son, and he was special Erik could tell.
Erik was both clan chief and a smith to the tribe and great smith at that. In fact, in all the surrounding villages he was the best, but he had no one to pass his craft down to. Thinking of everything he would teach the boy his face broke into a huge smile, making the baby giggle. Alva looked at her oaf of a husband and smiled at his somewhat childish personality.
Erik's rough asked, "what's his name."
Alva looked at him and said, "Elias Essel"
Erik bellowed so loud that their neighbors could hear him say, "Elias Essel, my son."
