Chapter 52 - The Ball

The plane lands and we all exit in our disguises. I have red eye contacts in and a long brown hair wig on. I'm wearing a long sparkle deep blue v neck dress that has an open back and thin straps. It barely touched the floor.

Naiomi has burgundy red eyes and is wearing a mint color ball gown that goes well with her white-haired wig. Kirito has blood red eyes and wore a black suit with a black tie. He slicked back his hair and he looked rather handsome as a pretend vampire. I decided to hand out the masks last and each mask matched our outfits. We arrived a little bit later than expected and the banquet would soon start so we made our way there with invitations and IDs in hand.

"Remember guys be careful."

I say as I walk past them. They nod and we separate but make sure we are still pretty close.

I watch as they are let in and soon they let me in too.

"Welcome Ms. Kairi Vermillion, its a pleasure to finally have you attend our grand banquet, there have been many rumors of your success in country z we are proud to see you here tonight!"

Startled by this news of my false identity being known I decide to play it safe and just smile and nod as I walk by the doorman. I enter the large mansion and look around. It was a beautiful place here with walls that looked like it was made of the finest marble and many expensive-looking portraits. There were 100s of people gathered on the floor dancing or talking to one another. I walk down the large staircase and make my way to the floor where I wander.

(This woman's identity seems complicated, I wish Kana had left more information about the identities she had given us. I should be careful.)

I sigh and look around. I could easily spot Kirito and Naiomi who were also wandering around. A servant approaches me with some champagne. I notice he was trembling a bit.

"Madam would you like something to drink?"

I nod and take a glass off of his tray.

"Thank you, I have a question for you."

He slightly nods still trembling.

"I see that your scared, are you being forced to work here among us?"

The servant narrows his eyes and slightly nods it was then that I noticed he wasn't human. He had a werewolves aura. I knew then that I could trust him seeing that werewolves are known enemies of vampires. I inch a bit closer to him acting as I was going to walk past him as I sip on my champagne.

"What if...I told you I could help you escape...If you helped me with a favor?"

He startles at the thought of escaping.

"But Ms...That would be putting you in danger as well..."

I shrug.

"I do not matter, I'm looking for a family that was brought here a little over a year ago...Their last name is Jinnian."

The servant nods.

"Yes I know of them, They aren't here anymore though, They were moved to a safe house a few miles from here."

I take a glance at him and do the same to me.

"But why would a vampire such as yourself want to help us?"

I giggle a little at the thought of being a vampire.

"I can explain later, What is your name?"

He smiles knowing the answer already to his question.

"It's ok you don't have to answer. Even though you took something to mask your scent, we werewolves have powerful noses if we choose to focus on a certain person. Anyway, I see I can trust you...My name is Tobi Hallen."

(Hallen...Why does that sound so familiar?)

"Hello, Ms...May I have this dance?"

I look up and the Tobi quickly bows, I see a tall young man with snow-white hair and red eyes, He wore a deep black mask over his eyes and had a genuine smile on his face.

"Hello lord Rode, I shall get back to serving people now."

The man called lord Rode nods and Tobi leaves. He then turns his attention back to me as I sip on my champagne.

"Well, my lady?"

I thought about it for a second before setting my drink down on the table and hold out my hand for him.

"Sure."

He takes it and places an arm around my waist as we slow dance to the classical music playing in the background.

"What's your name, I haven't seen you before?"

I try not to look at him directly when speaking and focus on Kirito who's eyeing us in the distance.

"Kairi Vermillion it's nice to meet you, lord Rode."

He chuckles and spins me around as the music reaches its climax.

"You as well Ms. Vermillion. Your quite beautiful as a pureblood vampire, I have heard of your success in country z, When we heard that you weren't going to attend tonight we were disappointed, But now you are here?"

Startled by his confrontation I clear my throat.

"I decided last minute to attend, I'm sorry for the inconvenience."

He chuckles and lowers his head near my ear, I could feel his warm breath on my neck as he speaks.

"No worries, Ms. Vermillion you smell really...delicious..."

I quickly felt fear course through me and pull away from him, He eyes me suspiciously.

"I'm sorry but I have to use the restroom please excuse me, lord Rode."

I bow and walk away towards the restrooms trying to act as casually as I could.

Once inside I lock the stall behind me and press my back against the stall door sighing in relief. I place my hand over my neck with trembling fingers.

(Calm down, I need to stay calm...)

I take a couple of deep breaths and after a few moments pass, I felt better. Im about to unlock the stall and walk out but stop the moment I hear the bathroom door open and two girls walk in chatting.

"Did you see her dancing with lord Rode! I can't believe she just left him standing there!"

The other girl chimes in as well.

"She should consider herself lucky that the lord of all of us chose her to dance with yet she wouldn't even offer her blood to him!"

(No way...Out of all of the vampires...I had to meet that guy?!)

"Fray do not say such things he's the son of the king, he is not lord yet, Once the vampire king dies of his illness then he will be. But if someone here's you speak as if he is king already then you will for sure be punished by the real king!"

The other girl snickers.

"That old man has been in his position for far too long, I can't wait for lord Rode to be king, He will definitely take care of our human and werewolf problems. That king of ours failed us all..."

The girl's friend sighs.

"Fray, I can't help but wonder how you're still alive with that tongue of yours..."

They giggle and leave the restroom. I smile inwardly knowing I had just come across powerful information.

(The king is sick...And his son is planning our destruction once he is named king. I haven't heard any news about this till now. This information could potentially end the war if I can tell Headmaster.)

I head out and walk back out to the ballroom, Many others had joined and it was soon crowded, I had lost sight of Naiomi and Kirito so I go looking for them. I spot Naiomi pretending to talk on a phone and Kirito talking to a servant. I sigh with relief and look around making sure no one was looking at me. I casually walk up to Kirito and pass along the information the servant had given me.

"Ok good, So now we can leave and go get them and get out of here, I'll go tell Naiomi."

I nod and look back into the crowd. I spot Rode talking to another man who seemed familiar. He had slender red eyes under his mask, and also had snow-white hair, but his was straight and fell to the back of his neck while Rodes was slicked back into a ponytail. I try to recall any memories of him but fail.

(He looks familiar...But I just can't remember.)

I decide to leave it alone and follow Kirito and Naiomi out, We stand on the other side of the mansion and Kirito pokes my arm.

"I talked to Toby, He should be out any minute to show us the way."

Naiomi sighs with relief.

"Thank goodness we are out of there, I couldn't stand the stares I got..."

I giggle and Kirito glances at me from the side.

"Ok, guys I'm here!"

Just then Tobi walks out holding some keys.

"It's really dark out here right now, lets hurry before anyone notices we're gone."

We follow suit and walk alongside him. Naiomi grabs ahold of my arm and I could tell she was nervous. After about 10 minutes of walking, we finally reach a locked broken-down shack of some kind and immediately smell death. I take a glance over towards Kirito and he nods. Naiomi was the first to speak.

"Guys I don't think-"

Tobi interrupts her.

"It's ok, I can sense a few heartbeats I don't think they are dead."

Tobi unlocks the door and we walk inside. The smell was overwhelming, to say the least, we spot 5 people huddled together covered in blood and surrounded by decaying bodies, they all looked frail, thin, weak, and dirty. The older man with grey hair stood up imminently noticing our presence.

"What do you want now! Leave us alone!!"

Kirito steps forward with his guard down.

"It's ok were here to help-"

The man grabs a rock and throws it at Kirito, Kirito tries to move but it ends up hitting his forehead and he gushes blood.

"We don't need help from you vampires!!"

"Kirito!"

I quickly run towards him but he waves me away.

"No, stay back! I got this!'

He turns back towards them and speaks again raising his voice.

" Look we aren't vampires we are in disguise, we are classmates of your daughter Kana, Were here to rescue you!"

He takes off his mask and contacts and the man lowers his guard realizing we weren't lying.

"I...Im so sorry."

Kirito shakes his head.

"It's ok let's get out of here, can you all stand?"

They all nod and stand up. The mother is holding the little girl while the father picks up their son.

"Yes, let's get out of here. Thank you, guys."

I smile warmly feeling overwhelming relief that we had found them alive. I take a step back but bump into something hard, I feel a strong arm around my waist and another on my wrist as I try to hit whoever it was behind me. Everyone turns around looking in horror.
