Chapter 58 - Snow-White

(Yuki pov)

After reviewing the papers I lean back into my seat, Kirito walks up to me and taps on my shoulder.

"Are you done?"

I nod and hand him the papers.

"Yep, 'Brother'"

His face went rigid and he snatches the papers from me quickly reading over them. He tosses them back down after a few minutes and I could tell he was agitated. It was a fine sight to see so much so that I had started laughing and pretended to act out my part.

"Haha, So big brother when will the plane be landing? Im hungry and I need my rest."

I speak while pouting, Kiritos face darkened and he lifts my chin to where our eyes met.

"Little sisters should be mindful and not cause to much trouble for their elders."

I laughed some more until Mr. Borin stepped out from behind the curtain to see what was going on.

"You youngsters are quite loud...What's going on?"

Kirito and I both look his way while pulling away from each other, I scratch the back of my head nervously and Kirito tosses Bolin the papers.

"Sister and brother?!"

Bolin chuckles realizing what we were talking about.

"Well if you think about it this grand ball is for elders such as myself who introduce their children who are of age, So you guys being a...couple...could blow our cover."

Kirito sighs knowing all to well he was right.

"Spare me the details, I knew that when I read it, anyway I thought you said you'd be in the background, why does your role sound even more serious than you portrayed it?"

Bolin shrugs and turns to leave.

"Well children still need an adult for such a mission, you can't be fully trusted by us just because you guys infiltrated enemy territory. Besides, it's not like our teams haven't already done it before. So don't get so cocky."

(Did he just call Kirito cocky? Jeez this old man is bold!)

I could tell Kirito was furious, I tapped the table in envy of the old fellow for being so brave.

(Is it wrong of me to feel amused at this moment? Hm...)

I ponder the question for a while.

(A few hours later)

It's about midnight by the time we get to our safe house and we are all exhausted. We are shown our rooms and I immediately plopped down onto the bed.

(So tired, I'm so glad to be on a soft bed tonight.)

I climb under the covers and soon fall right to sleep.

The next morning rolls around and we're ready to go, I notice that the first thing Mr. Borin does was take a shot of whisky. My face went rigid and I was at a complete loss on what to say.

(Already drinking at 7 am, This man definitely is an alcoholic.)

Kirito hands me a warm mug of coffee and I take a sip enjoying the freshness of it. Kirito knew how to make a good cup of coffee though I don't like coffee he makes it taste like chocolate and hazelnut.

Kirito is the first to speak.

"What's the plan for today old man."

Borin instantly got furious and almost spat out his next shot of whisky.

"Damn you boy! Quit calling me old man and start calling me father!"

Kirito kept his calm and cold demeanor but spoke ruthlessly.

"I bet your biological children wouldn't even dare to call an alcoholic such as yourself their father, Old man you should really get some help for that addiction of yours."

My mouth dropped wide open at his words, I myself couldn't even believe Kirito could be this cold towards someone, it sent shivers down my body. At the same time I could tell his words hit Mr. Borin pretty hard, he actually looked hurt for a moment and I kind of pitied him. His demeanor quickly changed back to his usual self though as if those words meant nothing to him and happily spoke back to Kirito.

"Your right, They don't call me father, they call me papa!"

I was dumbfounded by his stupidity and just decided to walk away from the situation.

(Geez, these two will give me a headache before the days even started!)

After a while Mr. Borin led us to our target's safe house, He unlocked the door and upon walking in we saw nothing of importance.

"The house seems to be completely spotless, everything is in order and immaculate. Not even a thumbprint..."

Kirito says while looking at the stainless steel sink.

Mr. Borin nods and takes a seat to think. I decided to point out the obvious.

"It's like no one lived here at all, His clothes are still hung up, there are no dirty dishes, the bed looks untouched, and no fingerprints anywhere. theirs not even a speck on the trash can, it's way to clean. I think someone came in to cover their tracks."

Mr. Borin and Kirito both look at each other then back at me.

"Well, My darling little sister seems to have a sharp mind, Mr. Borin, Do you know if our target has anywhere special he'd store any information in this type of situation?"

Mr. Borin instantly nods

"Yes, actually it's protocol! Though we are not allowed to tell anyone where our secret place is at we are trained to keep our information hidden in case of such situations, Let's take another look around but more in-depth this time."

We split up and continue to look, after some time we all gather back into the kitchen.

Kirito sighs and I am first to speak.

"Maybe we are thinking about this all wrong, maybe he felt like he had to break protocol but left a clue as to where he put his information?"

Bolin shakes his head.

"It's possible, let's go back for now."

With that said we leave empty-handed, I decide to go out into town to get something to eat for dinner.

(It feels nice to finally be alone even under such circumstances.)

I look around in the market and pick up a few things. Satisfied with what I've got I make my way back home deep in thought.

(I wonder if Kana's doing ok, Maybe I should call her when I get back and check in on Naiomi as well.)

Just then I bump into someone and when im about to fall they catch me.

"Oh, I'm so sorry I wasn't paying attention to-"

When I look up to see who had caught me I stop mid-sentence and a flashback came back to me of the night we rescued Kana's family.

It was the guy I saw in the ballroom before we left. He wore a black hoodie but one could tell he had snow-white hair. He has a thin black mask around his eyes but one could tell he has a scar running down his left eye to his cheekbone. One of his eyes were turquoise blue while the other was blood red.

He seemed familiar but I couldn't pinpoint who he was.

"Lady, are you done staring?"

His cold and emotionless face gave me goosebumps, the tone in his voice was deep and husky so much so that it gave me chills.

"I-Im sorry..."

He lets go of me and I back away a little bit.

(Something feels off, But what is it?)

He walks past me but I grab ahold of his wrist.

"Wait! I uh-"

He quickly takes his hand back and turns back towards me aggressively.

"What!? get on with it, I have things to do and people to see!"

He yells at me which quickly startles me, His voice even sounded familiar.

"Do I know you?"

The man's facial expression changed so suddenly that I couldn't make out what he was thinking before he had changed back to his natural emotionless face which raised my suspicion even more.

"No, I don't know you, now leave me alone."

I looked at him curiously and he seemed to get a bit uneasy at my glance.

"Are you done now? im leaving..."

He walks away and im left standing there wondering why he had looked so familiar.

After a few moments, I decide to leave the issue alone for the time being and head home.
