Streaks of sunlight creeping through the curtains of the window beside my bed, hitting me directly in the face. I slowly open my eyes and remembered what happened the night before when Mayumi tried to comfort me. It was then that I realized how much of a good person she really is, she still barely knows me, yet she felt the need to make me feel better. With this in mind I felt the need to become stronger and to learn what I can truly do with the power that was given to me, so I can make it my own and keep my promise.
I walked downstairs to find Mayumi in the dining room, fabricating food out of thin air onto the dining table as if it were nobody's business. Well this way I don't have to spend any money on food if we have the power to make it out of literally nothing.
"Good morning." I greeted Mayumi.
"Good morning! I fixed up breakfast for us." As she replied the doorbell rang.
"That must be Shirou, I'll let him in." I said and walked towards the front door to let Shirou in. We walked back into the dining room and sat at the table when Mayumi fixed up another plate of breakfast for Shirou who had already eaten but always has room for more. Our noses were twitching at the faint fumes of the sizzling bacon drifting up off crispy waves, the sea-foam fat glistening on the rind and over the rasher on the plates. The bright yellow egg yolk surrounded by the white beside the bacon shining with the sunlight from the kitchen window bouncing off it. The smiles on our faces grew bigger and so did our appetite.
Mayumi sat down with us and we began to eat. "Itadakimasu!" we said as Shirou and I stuffed our faces with the most delicious bacon and eggs breakfast we'd ever had. A small appeared on Mayumi's face as she watched us enjoy her food.
After breakfast we got ready and head out to a nearby park where Mayumi used her powers to create a barrier, which is pretty much an alternate version of the surrounding area in which the creator of the barrier chooses who would be in it. In other words, its sort of like a mirror dimension in which only the three of us exist, therefore nothing that happens in here will affect the real world and no one in the real world can see us, neither can we see them.
"I'll teach you how to create a barrier later, for now, let's start with flying." said Mayumi.
"I can fly?!" I asked with a surprised expression.
"It's pretty simple actually, just focus all the energy flowing through you across every part of your body until your feet are off the ground." she replied.
"Remember to use the outfit I made for you!" Shouted Shirou who was watching us from a corner while sitting under a tree.
I began to channel my power and my clothes burned away into the outfit that Shirou had made for me. I closed my eyes and tried to focus on the energy within me. While doing this, I was unaware that gusts of strong wind had been pouring from me and the red glow that I was engulfed in had grown large and wild.
"NO NO Stop!" Shouted Mayumi while Shirou was hugging the tree that was behind him with a frightened look on his face. I opened my eyes and stopped focusing on my energy.
"What's wrong?" I asked while being ignorant of what happened.
"You were doing it wrong, you were focusing on releasing your energy in order to create and channel more of it to increase your fighting strength. All you need to do is activate your power and focus on each part of your body. Once you do that you'll be able to fly around like this." she replied as she began levitate 2 feet above the ground.
I closed my eyes and tried again, I tried to keep the energy consistent and spreading it out throughout my body instead of creating more energy. I suddenly felt my feet being lifted off the ground beneath me. I opened my eyes and saw my feet dangling and a moment later I fell back to the ground.
"Try again, you're getting there!" exclaimed Mayumi.
"Alright!" I replied enthusiastically.
I tried again and this time I knew I can keep it up. Moving around was easier than I thought it would be. I was levitating around the park trying to make sure I knew how to do it perfectly. I flew over to Shirou who was flabbergasted at the sight of his best friend flying around.
"I'm speechless." said Shirou.
I replied with a laugh and shot myself into the air at a high speed, high speed is an understatement. I was about 300 feet in the air within a split second with my body surprisingly still intact. I could see all of Shinjuku and more. I was overcome by a sense of freedom, as if I were restricted to nothing. The slow wind flowing through my slightly long hair and very gently hitting me in the face was refreshing.
Mayumi flew up behind me and saw that I was enjoying the unique sensation of flying. "How does it feel?" She asked with a smile on her face.
"It feels…amazing, I already feel like out of everything I am and will be able to do…flying is gonna be my all time favorite thing about these powers." I replied with my eyes closed and still enjoying the tender wind.
"It's my favorite too, I love the sense of peacefulness that fills up your heart, like nothing can go wrong." said Mayumi. As she said this I opened my eyes and glanced over to her. Her long, dark hair flowing elegantly in the wind, she looked peaceful, which made her beauty even more prominent than usual. It took a brief moment for me to realize I was staring at her unintentionally which when I did, I was once again reminded what she did for me the night before and I immediately turned away with my cheeks being red.
"We should probably head back down now, we shouldn't keep Shirou waiting." She said while still smiling.
She flew back downwards and before I joined her, I glanced over the city once more and my eyes came across our school. My mind was suddenly flooded with images of 279 and was reminded that he was out to kill me and Mayumi. I tightened my grip and flew back downwards to join Mayumi and Shirou. I slowed down and flipped upright to slowly descend to the ground instead of crashing into it head on.
"Seems like you've got the hang of flying in just a few minutes, at this rate you'll be a pro like Mayumi in no time!" said Shirou excitingly.
"I'm already getting excited about fighting 279!" I replied.
"It won't be easy, remember this guy is stronger and is more experienced than I am, I've only been doing this for 18 Earth years while he's been guardian of his universe for almost a century." said Mayumi.
"Wait so you've only been guardian of this universe for 18 years? Then who was the guardian before that?" I asked.
"I don't know who it was but every 1000 years the guardians of each universe are replaced by the Higher Council…and no one knows what happens to them afterwards." she replied.
"Well that's…interesting." said Shirou.
"Anyways lets get back to training!" I exclaimed.
