Chapter 29 - If I have a second chance

It was a story from a certain perspective.

Fire and destruction. His kingdom went up in flame. He stares at an emotionless figure standing in the flame, brandishing a branch-like spear.

"Why Varsas? Why?"

Everywhere he went, destruction follow, everything involving him, involves tragedy.

His marriage is in ruin, his relationship destroyed, but still, why must this figure haunt him? Haunt him for so long, even after so many years?

Even though he is supposed to be dead?

...

Varsas Gungnir's corpse was found in a ditch. It was the appropriate state to find the guy, wandering from battle to battle, fighting constantly. And yet even though his death was expected, no one expect him to die in a ditch. It was absolutely heart-breaking for his loved one, even though the guy's family was nowhere to be found, his friends all gather to give him a burial.

It seems he did not lose the battle until the very end, and passed away after walking from the tough fight. Ironic that the so call hero who ended the war with so many friends dies alone. Everyone expected that he would at least die in battle, not after the fight was done, and not in a ditch in the city. It was unexpected, but it suited the guy.

The corpse of the mini city god was found, strewn around.

But the question remain

Why did he die alone?

It was a solemn question on the mind of many people present?

Why did he not call on his friends and allies? The guy was always a loner even though he acted sociable. People can't get close to him due to his tendency and the way he think. It really is that Varsas Gungnir is on a different wave length.

Perhaps, they was not worthy of being called?

If even Varsas Gungnir died there, than what help could they provide? A certain courtier joked at that, he was never close to the dead guy. An angry woman with a wicked whip causes him to shut up. In fact, she was so angry that he could never speak again.

She was not Viola though. Not his Viola, she would never be so violence, even in battle, only providing for Varsas Gungnir from afar. Always standing, always faithful, always devoted, always so pure and beautiful... Even from a distance, her fragrance tells of pureness and serenity, not like the violence that transcends in front of them.

The woman is so angry, so angry that she picks a fight with every powerful beings on the scene without minding the consequences.

She is even holding that corpse, crying. She has many accusations, none of which she can prove. She points fingers and asks questions, and finally she pointed at Viola, sweet, sweet Viola...

Why did Varsas die in this city?

Two of his closest person are in his vicinity, why didn't he ask for help?

Finally, did she, Viola, plan all of this?

Of course, no men at the scene can stand the unreasonableness of the woman, accusing sweet, sweet Viola of all thing, who is probably the one most affected by Varsas's death. The woman was forcibly removed from the vicinity, however it was clear that Viola had a changed of heart from that day. She was greatly shaken by the woman's words, no longer was she the sweet Viola that everyone knew.

...

For him,

...His wife has an obsession. It was an obsession that he feared to let other known, otherwise his reputation would be ruin.

Every night she brought home a young man, half his age. When he grew older, he never expected this to happen, but it did and it was Varsas Gungnir's fault.

The younger man was tall with darker hair, with a hint of exoticness from a foreign land. Compared to the old man he was, the young person was many time greater.

And yet he feared to intervene with the relationship because he was afraid he would lost his wife forever.

It was all Varsas Gungnir's fault that his wife cheated on him.

She has dark rings under her eyes from sleepless night. She would take the younger man to many locations for romantic dinner, her obsession with the young man was so great that she almost spent half the treasury to buy gifts for her young lover.

It was all Varsas Gungnir's fault. Even though he is already dead, he is still haunting everyone from the grave. Everything bad, he instinctively defaults it to being Varsas Gungnir's fault.

His hatred was so great as to be incomparable when it comes to Varsas Gungnir. No one knew that he was angry because on the surface, he kept a perfect facade.

Years later... his court is a pit of venomous viper. The young man's faction is more and more dominant through the years, letting the fact that he was a cuckold become common knowledge in certain circles, they are laughing at him behind his back, he knew it.

It was Varsas's fault. That was what he decided.

One day, an old hermit who lived in the jungle approached his court admist all of that. The old man was a wise person respected by many people in the country side and has asked to see him and his family.

He allows the hermit to meet, wondering what the man has to say.

His life was already hell as it is.

However, the day the old man meet them, after an altercation, the unknown hermit warned them of a catastrophic disaster heading their way and that they have to sharpen up to survive it.

The inner circle laughed at the hermit, but he took it to heart, as someone who used to hang with Varsas Gungnir, he was someone with ability.

Also, he knew that the world would never be so kind as to let you alone, there is always a next disaster, Varsas Gungnir died in one like that.

Except, he was old. And even if he prepared, what used is it when all of his people are hopelessly corrupted, and his wife senseless?

A few more years.

The hermit suddenly appears again and killed the young man who is 23 now, determining him to be the source of corruption that was stopping the preparation for the incoming disaster.

His wife become ballistic and lost her sanity after her source of obsession was killed.

It was all Varsas Gungnir's fault.

The hermit disappeared.

Exactly one year later, as the jungle man predicted, a catastrophe befalls the world.

He did not live to see it, even as flame consumes his castle, his wife, her obsession, her shrine, everything.

And the figure slowly approaching in the flame was a familiar figure, the person that he blame all his misfortune on through out all those years.

Varsas Gungnir.

His corpse.

His corpse risen from the grave, cold and empty.

The bastard was holding his best spear while causing the tragedy, he didn't even allow anyone a chance. It was the same weapon he killed Varsas-reon with.

As death come to reap, the old miserable man can only angrily reached out one last time with his hand, grabbing the collar of that guy.

W H Y

But the emptiness staring back at him scared him to dead.

Not like this, not like this, not like this...

It was so pitiful.

He did not die because of his wounds, he was frightened to dead.

It was actually Varsas Gungnir's fault.

If he has a second chance...
