Chapter 18 - Your parents disapprove. Again

Contrary to other people's expectation during his time in the sun, Varsas has his want and need too. He has his anger, but that was restraint after the first millions. He has his hobbies and thing he liked. Every time he does something he wanted, the people talk or that hobby does not fit with the current society.

There are things that he misses when he comes back to the current time, he misses his friends too, but it is the small habits that follow him.

Everyday in the past he woke up with the smell of chemical in the morning. Reading forbidden scriptures was one of those habits too. When there are many expectations lay on you, you do everything in your power to meet those expectation. Reading forbidden scriptures to increase your power and knowledge is good, using potions is good, making golems is good. After that chemical became a daily habit. Books are not an unusual things in the party's main room either. And because of that all of it becomes something familiar.

Varsas misses that. Sometime late at night, he woke up in a room that is supposed to be his but is so unfamiliar that he can't sleep. He is not used to not waking up in the morning and getting hang-over due to the residual potions effect. He misses the smell of old dusty tome in the room.

The life of a vagabond is a hectic, you just acute thing over time. Hobbies and stuffs, stuffs that will seem extremely extremely out of character for the young master of the Gungnir household as he is right now.

And there are also things that would also seems extremely out of character for the Varsas of the future too.

Viola and Vaine accepted the enhancing effects of the potions, though Vaine was not as receptacle as Viola. They have to do everything to enhance themselves right? So that is what they did but Vaine cannot brace the side effect as well. But they still have to brace the daily dose of chemical to better adapt themselves to the face of reality. That is Varsas's proposal to them all.

To get stronger, they need to dose themselves daily with the potion, abusing the potions effect they become much stronger than a human could. However that was still not enough.

So the party learn magic. What one learn is based on their own ability, but everyone tried their hardest, they have to get stronger to face the changing power of their enemies. However at that point, even Viola started to lag behind. Not even she can understand everything. But Varsas does. Not always, but to him it is only a matter of time, after trying for a period of time, there are no grimoire that is impossible. Only that they took a lot of time. The party's then have a large library, courtesy of every nations in the world because everyone is threatened at that point in time.

There was countless scholars who didn't understand how the party is doing what they are doing, but it is the same reason as how Varsas is proficient in every weapons at 27, or how Viola knows every healing magic in the world as well as most fencing technique, or how Vaine started learning army cutting technique after being inspired by Varsas. That is just how it is, it is impossible but it happens. Many things happen in the world, just like time travel is also a thing that happen.

Of all the self improvement methods Varsas thought of, only one Viola and Vaine did not participate in despite the potential Varsas saw in it. Gene modifying is the future. Have you ever though about a magical organ that pumps out magic like the dragon from the nation of Dragons? Or a cure to all potential future diseases, or the combat gene that was only theorized?

The idea is that human are good at fighting because there is a hidden combat gene developed through many generations. That is why the children of powerful people will also be powerful they say.

Even outside of that, there are many ways to change your body, or how to lengthen your hand for a better reach, to enhance your eyes. There are potions that do that too, but at that point it is doubtful how much of an effect it has on them.

But because people disapprove of that, Varsas shelved the last method. But it is still his hobby. He feels proud of what he accomplished, perhaps even more than the battlefield or combat. That is why in Varsas's ideal room, there is a life supporting tank for experiment even if he has shelved it.

And then with that ideal room, he took out his sleeping bag nightly and closed his eyes peacefully. The smells of chemical and dust permeate everything, with a jinzo and an angel watching him like how he likes it. Because of the many years spent outside, a sleeping bag honestly fit him more than any bed would, the closeness is comfortable to him. It makes him imagine sleeping outside with a friend keeping watch and the campfire burning through the night.

All of it is gone now, but the least he could keep is the memories.

That is his paradise.

But sometime your parent just disapprove of your hobbies, just like now.

"Varsas Gungnir, the queen said this is better for your head space. You should not do this anymore."

Varsas just stares at his pride and joy in this life being destroyed. He doesn't have the resources he used to have in another life, not really. With the destruction of the Lanton empire, a lot of parts were available on the black market. In this life living in the Gungnir's territory how can he even approach the resource of another currently hostile nation state? So all of it were mostly bootstrap, it is another of his pride and joy being built up from before being destroyed.

"I... am not angry. You are only under order from my godmother." He states holding a hand up to stop the incoming pain.

Sometime your parent just disapprove of your choice of joy.

"However I expect my privacy to be respected. This will not happen in the future." He looks at Lufa, who looks back puzzled.

"This is the last time. So go. And say I wish her a good day to my godmother. This will never happen again."

He forced Lufa out of the room who walked away begrudgingly. Varsas stays and watches the scene stoically.

"In every lifetime..."

The rest is drown away by the night.
