Chapter 21 - What is going on here?

Varsas looks at the direction of the Lantonian empire.

Human are creature bound by fate. If it is fated to happen, it happens. For a time he has believed it. Things happen. But at the same time he also believes that human's decision matter. Maybe Lufa can actually save the daughter of the Lantonian Empire's minister.

...Even though she does not have any education in advance genetic tinkering, or healing art or that that person's condition is beyond her. Maybe she could still change something.

Perhaps...

There is a magic that only the denizen from Lan Sphere island can use. It is the manipulation of time and event. Some even say it is the manipulation of fate. It is beyond even Varsas understanding. That magic can perhaps do something.

...Not that any of that is his problem. Varsas turns away, back to his room. He is too tired, he does not want to do anything.

"Young master? Is this a good time? Young master?" A butler knocks on the door.

The butler brought paperwork for creating an orphanage for disadvantaged children and women in need of work.

...It is a headache. He really needs a rest right now.

However it will bring some good to the world.

Lately Varsas has been working. There is a million thing better for him to do than to get involved in that mess again. Charity, bettering his ancestral land, improving the people life, etc. It is what Varsas care about, who care about the outside world if it is going to be fine in the end.

...

At that moment the little girl from Lan Sphere, Lufa, is cursing at the apathy of the so called hero who ended the war. Even though she has learned teleportation, she has not master it. So currently she is flying over a vast forest.

Instantly she disappears and reappears at another part of the world. While she has learnt teleportation, her range are not infinite, and the Lanton empire is literally on the other side of the world. She has to make small 'jumps' while charging her magic power. All the while she could only say

"Stupid Varsas. Stupid Varsas."

Again she cursed

"Why are you like this? Just what the hell is wrong with you?"

The people underneath who catch glimpses of someone appearing in the sky, and then muttering in a foreign language could only rub their eyes, checking if they are dreaming. And then just like a dream she disappears, causing them to question their own eyes.

...

In the Lanton empire, a cloaked man with a distinct southern Mahaima accent is shopping for his new experiment. No one could know what he is thinking, most prefer not to.

People stay out of his way. He has become famous lately in the Lanton empire underworld.

The government itself is looking for him.

The problem is that before now no one has managed to find a lead. Like a ghost, it is as if he has disappeared after the first time he bought the materials and submitted the manuscript for publishing. The return address is not even real, the publisher cannot even look for him to talk about working for the government after the first payment. It's as if he was a ghost. Appearing to write a world class classic and then disappeared after the deed is done.

Those actions make one particular person in the same shop at the time very bitter.

That person was professor Danton. Professor Danton was just about to ask for funding for the same line of research the mysterious man has detailed in his book. However his chance was taken away after the book was published. How could he compete with that?

It makes him very frustrated. He read "If I was to resurrect the dead" many times and each time he has nothing but praises and can't help but see the author as a genius. He can't see anyway his research could have surpassed such mastery and understanding of the human body.

And yet he is still frustrated. What would happen if that mysterious man did not release his book? Would Danton be hail in his place?

But it does not matter anymore. He can only comments snidely on the situation that is about to happen.

"Yo pal. Sometimes too much fame can be a burden. Look like you are going to have troubles with the government now."

A group of soldiers appears in the shop. Danton look on snidely as they lead the author of the best selling book away. Well, not his problems.

A shadow stalks the group of soldiers after witnessing the scene. That shadow looks at Danton for a moment before dismissing him and continue his pursue after the group and the author.

At the same time, above all of them Lufa from the Lan Sphere isle is about to make a landing.

...

"Please save my daughter." The prime minister kneels on the ground and pleads after explaining the situation.

"I can."

The man says simply after hearing the plead.

It seems the prime minister's daughter experiences a rare condition that could only be cured by advance genetic conditioning, which was detailed in that book of the scientist.

He was the one who wrote "If I was to resurrect the dead"

Even now he has not taken off his cloak but the soldiers dare not offend him by talking about it. They are currently in a discreet house in the suburb of the Lanton capital city. They take the carriage all the way there, and on the way, the soldiers keep on worrying about offending the genius scientist that their employer need. They take the best carriage fitted with iron band on the wooden wheel for a smooth ride and leather decorations for the seat. On the way they don't know how he will act because he didn't say anything.

But now that he has accepted the offer, they can breath a sigh of relief.

He has not stated his price though.

Looking at him, it does not look like what he wanted is going to be normal.

While all of this negotiation is happening, Lufa is spying on them from up high. She chanced upon them while scanning the city and after confirming it was them, she followed them to make sure everything is alright.

"-on one condition" the Lantonian professor was about to say something when the wall of the house literally bursts open. The soldiers instantly switch into combat mode and raise their weapons.

A single man appears from the broken portion of the house. The prime minister retreats and tries to drag the scientist with him but the mysterious cloaked man dodges the attempt. He observes the person that just brazenly broken into the house while calmly.

That person appears to be a youth, he is masked and his body is covered with heavy cloth so it is hard to make out who he is. He holds one sword in his hand and advances slowly as if the soldiers in the room are not there.

Even though it is a single swordsman, the soldiers stay on guard. They slowly approach him-

But it was futile. One by one they are killed. It is as if the mysterious swordsman is taking a slow stroll through all of the men.

"Is this the sabotage from the Kingdom Alliance Varsas spoke off that will interfere with the prime minister's daughter treatment and send him into a downward spiral?" Lufa says to herself.

So saying, she instantly rushes into the room to interfere. The roof literally exploded when she lands. Nobody knows what happened, but the lone swordman was the first to act. He was surprised by her appearance but knows that she is going to be a hindrance. Lufa raises a hand and creates a weapon out of thin air. If the guy wanted to fight with sword, she will give him sword.

She performs a perfect stroke that will make a grandmaster of the blade weeps with shame, inhuman skills that is as if she has practice swordplay for thousand of years.

Human only has one life while a Lan Spherian experiences thousands of years all at one. She was expecting everything to end with that one stroke, however-

The next moment her entire world was swordfighting.

In swordplay she was outclassed. It was just a bit but the guy has surpassed her. She can tell that he is weaker and slower than her but he is just that good. With a low kick, the swordsman pushes her back and was preparing a fatal stab. While in shock, Lufa's reaction was slower, at that moment however, someone steps in to interfere.

The Lantonian professor steps up. He took a soldier sword along the way. And then he stabs at the swordsman general direction. It was the most beautiful swordsmanship everyone in the room has ever seen. It was perfect.

Even the invincible swordsman who pushes back the formidable immortal from Lan Sphere island feels threatened just by that one move. He moves to dodge, but then that beautiful swordsmanship continue to chase after his figure causing him to falter more and more.

"Not yet"

At that moment he speaks. His arms twitch like a snake causing the sword in his hand to move at an angle completely unpredictable. The scientist backs away, cloaked and all, after feeling the danger radiating from the man.

Too late.

His sword got shattered. In the end it was not a differences in skills. It is just that the Lanton professor picks up a random sword while the assassin has prepared before hand. It is a difference in the quality of swords.

It was supposed to be the end and he is supposed to be dead but the Lanton professor gracefully dodges away before grabbing another sword from a random soldier.

At that moment what is in the mind of Lufa was "How is this possible. How could a normal human bested me in one on one combat?"

At that moment the lone swordsman is also thinking "Impossible. That girl. And that cloaked swordsman. The Lanton empire could not have someone at that caliber in their employ."

At that moment the mysterious scientist is also thinking "How is someone beating me right now? Just how can this be happening. What the fuck is going on?"
