Chapter 20 - Doing nothing and doing something. Lufa's decision

"Consider the Lanton Empire for a moment, it is the cause of war, and to its enemies it is an existential danger, it is evil. But to its citizens, is it really that though? Did they really deserve to be completely destroyed, their culture erased from the history of the world, just because of something a small subset of their population did in the past?

About the current situation, I do actually know something about it. Do you know why the future war escalate as much as it did?"

"Because the Lanton's leadership is completely mad. They could have surrendered at any point, but they just keep pushing and pushing, even against their own policy once upon a time, leading to everyone facing an existential war. Though that may have been Varsas-reon... They may not be really evil if it is that then."

"The Lanton Empire's leadership is indeed mad, but there was a time they was not. This is the most important period, one that I can say may affect the entire war." It is because he investigated after the entire people was genocide, Varsas found out some really important details.

"The Prime Minister of Lanton Empire was involved in the human chimeraic experiment. That may be a cause for concern for a lot of people, but in actuality he hates everything involving that experiments because he was also a victim of the experiment.

I don't know the circumstances, but even though his body appear human, he doesn't have much left to live. Genome changing on that scale always lead to complication, especially with the technology being new. With modern knowledge, looking back, the whole experiment was really stupid and pointless. And that is why the man hates everything involving that incident, the pain he experiments just living everyday must be great. That is why he creates the government, to make sure his people does not suffer under the hand of his own people again. And yet the person who is secretly pushing for human experiment and knowledge of the human body the most is also him. Why would a victim who hate everything involving human experiment be pushing for more of it?"

"Wait he was the one who wrote the book?" Lufa asks. If it is indeed the prime minister of Lanton than it is going to be a tough deal.

"Not quite right, he is in need of knowledge that come from the human body. And he is going to get it no matter the cost, even doing something he hates. The book is just a boon to him anyway. I said this period is the most important didn't I?

This is the period that broke the Lanton Prime Minister's sanity.

His own body aside, he didn't know that the faults in his own genome would be passed down to his own children. He should have known, but during the revolution, he was to busy leading to know. And that is why most of his children that was born are going to live a short live and die in unspeakable agony due to the genetic of their father. It is about this time that his daughter mutates and dies."

Varsas sips his drink while Lufa opens her mouth wide.

"There was a breakthrough research around this time-"

"That book?" Lufa aks

"-that may cure the man's daughter." Varsas continues. "But due to faulty implementation of the study, and sabotage from the alliance kingdom, the man's daughter die in agony anyway. And that is the moment the man broke, and the war escalate. It is probably due to seeing how painful his daughter die, and knowing that he was also going to die anyway."

"That's it." Lufa suddenly stands up. "This is the changing point of the war. If we could prevent this tragedy from happening, the war may have ended better, and Varsas-reon wouldn't have that much power as it did." Varsas cringes hearing that name again. However Lufa already misses one point while trying to get him to do something. Varsas-reon comes from Varsas, most of the power it has come from the war, but also the fear that Varsas incur in the people. The moment he removes a destroyer named "Varsas" out of the question, Varsas-reon has ceased to exist. Whatever that takes form from this is going to be something completely different, weaker without that many deaths and terrors.

At least Varsas hopes so.

"Come on, this is undoubtedly a good thing. We should interfere."

"Are you sure?" Varsas says.

"You are well aware of the mechanic of time, are you sure it is really going to get better, are you really really sure with a nascent War god manipulating thing from behind the scene?"

"If you aren't going, than I am. I can't believed a worshipped hero is someone like you."

"What are you even going to do? Both of us don't know anything about genome manipulation." Varsas chooses to glance to the side at that moment.

Lufa ignores him and disappears in a veil of light. Teleportation is not even close to a forbidden ancient magic, with just one glance at the books on magic in Varsas room the girl has learned everything about the magic and applied it to an acceptable level.

"The people of Lan Sphere island is really amazing" Varsas muses.

He looks out of the window at the direction of the Lanton empire. He was right, this is the best period to change the whole face of the Lantonian war, for the better or worse.
