Chapter 4 - Rian's past

Rian, or as his full name is Rian Ravenwing, was the oldest of 7, 2 brothers and 4 sisters, his family had struggled to get by for years, each member of his family had raven black hair and grey eyes with slight tints of crimson. As the oldest, he was relied upon by his whole family to help support them with his father. Rian's father was an excellent hunter and taught Rian how to track down prey in the woods. Rian was a natural when it came to hunting in the forest, always finding perfect areas to lay ambushes for prey and was gifted with tracking. Each year till Rian was 15 him and his father would go into the forest when the animals were migrating to warmer climates, each time they would come back with at least one kill. To Rian, this was the best times of his life even if his family were not the most wealthy they were able to make a small living hunting. Rian was 16 years of age when his father was conscripted into the king's army to fight in a war against a fanatic country...that was the last Rian ever saw of him. Since then Rian was off into the forest hunting trying to earn money for his family, his other family members stared to work too all trying to earn money.

For 8 months Rian and his family worked to make a living and everyday guard from the local nobles' households would come from the taverns and mess with his family demanding that his family pay them a tax or threatening to burn their house down and everything they hold dear. Hatred festered within Rian, he despised guards of any kind. The way they acted was like criminals, he planned to hone his skills so he could become a well-known hunter earn enough money to send those guards to prison. He'd spend every day hunting wild boars, improving and getting better, in his village, he was becoming well known as a skilled hunter he could easily sell any game he caught. That was until his house burnt down when Rian asked in the village everyone would look away shamefully. He found his mother and his youngest sibling dead and he was left broken and when he saw two guards laugh he lunged at them with his dagger fatally wounding one before being shoved off and kicked repeatably in the stomach. The remaining guard was starting screaming at Rian " You son of B#tch, you're nothing but a commoner. You ain't nothin you piece of sh#t, you deserve to die, all you filthy commoners deserve to die. Why must I stay around filth like you? " the guard appeared to come from some sort of wealthy family from. The locals surrounded the two people brawling on the street " you're a murderer " some screamed at the guard. Rian had sparked something in the hearts of the villagers, all had enough of the poor treatment they had been receiving from the two guards who had been abusing their authority too much, threatening locals to pay the tax that was to pay them for "their service and protection". The people had enough of their tyranny and attack the remaining guard, they saw the terrible deed the guardsmen had done and took justice into their own hands. They took some rope and strung up the guards upon the hanging tree, the look of terror in his eyes as his life left his body left a mark on Rian's heart.

Rian began to push himself every day for 3 months often staying over 3 nights in the forest hunting, his grief and pain over the loss of his mother and youngest brother was numbed when he hunted. Rian, he was filled with darkness and it was consuming him, he had an unwavering hatred for guards and wanted to either kill them or stay away from them, depending on the circumstances he would choose confrontation over fleeing. he wanted to take his anger out on the world and was fully prepared to fight. His family was upset and looked to Rian for guidance but he was out hunting most of the time trying to become stronger to protect his family, he told himself hed never trust a guard again.

" Rian, are you going to the forest again? Don't you understand we need you " his sister saw him leaving in the early morning barely saying goodbye to his younger siblings? She saw that Rian was dressed. He was wearing his leather jacket lined with the belt of a boar, his hunting jacket he made it himself with the help of his sister and mother. He was in a hurry and had dirt on his face and dirty bottoms than were brown and torn slightly. " Yeah, I understand Lotsie, that's why I'm out in the forest hunting. I'm earning our money. " Yeah, yeah. You know that we all miss them, we mourn them every day Rian. But we have to stay together now more than ever. " Lotsie was the second oldest of the family and was the voice of reason whenever a fight broke out amongst the lot. She had a pale complexion with raven black hair and grey gentle eyes with slight tints of crimson. She was said to be the prettiest girl in the village, even though she's only 14 she is adored by many in the area, people often mistook her for a noble girl until they noticed her clothing. she wore a long pretty dress that had been looked after and had great care poured into it. "Yeah I will be gone for about a day so don't worry okay. Tell the others they are eaten boar tonight, I will get the biggest in the forest. " He looked back at his younger sister and gave her a reassuring smile " I will be fine, I know that forest like the back of my hand, plus I'm a master now! " he turned and headed out the door of their new home and his face was pained.

Out on his hunt, Rian was silent, not a word, not a sound. He had was hunting to escape from the guilt he faced at home but felt even more guilty leaving Lotsie to look after all of their siblings. But he needed to work, he desired to get the money so that they can actually have a decent life free from the trouble. However, he had to deal with the pain in his heart foremost as if it persists, he would lose his mind. "How can I let this happen, how many of bloody years do we have to suffer till we can eventually just have a good life." the sudden outburst of emotion startled the birds in the canopy. " It's not fair. I hate this f#king world If I could id kill the thing that created all of this and rip it apart!" Rian's rage was immense and utterly justified nobody would blame him for feeling this way.
