Chapter 11 - Misfits

The sounds of birds and the river echoed throughout the forest of gently swaying pine trees. A group of 4 humans traveled a muddy path heading somewhere deep into the Pine Forest. The sound of their armor clanking echoed in the surroundings drawing attention to the group.

"That damn armor gonna get us killed!" A tall woman with bright red hair stared at a man with heavy plate mail armor and a broadsword on his back.

"Oh quite Shila, it's your fault we're in this shitty situation!" A kid covered head to toe in a black cloak looked at the woman with annoyance.

"Now is not the time to be bickering, what's done is done, get over it and move on." A man is golden skin and green eyes, his face covered with a mask looked around the rag tag group of misfits. On his back was a sword that looked way to big for someone his size to carry.

"Whats done is done? How the hell are we supposed to 'move on' after a failed assassination attempt against the royal family?!" The kid did let up, in fact he pussed harder, taking out a dagger and twirling it with one hand.

"Thats enough red! We don't have time to play, movement ahead!" Instantly they prepared for a battle, Red disappeared without anyone noticing and Shila readied some spells. Drax the man in plate mail took to the front of the group preparing to tank while Aldwin held his greatsword.

The leaves on both sides of the road rattled with great force before two beasts jumped out of the bushes. Two wolves with silver fur and blue eyes appeared before the group, bright silver runes jumped along with their fur before expanding with blinding light.

"Not good, dodge!" Aldwin shout was useless as the others had long since moved out of the way. As the light condensed back into the wolves a chilling sensation reached the group before blasts of arcane magic escaped the mouths of the wolves shoot towards Aldwin.

"Not good!" Aldwin rolled out of the way but not before his arm was caught in the blast. His left arm froze and the sensation was terrible. Coughing up blood Aldwin laid on the floor taking out a potion before applying it to his arm.

The others already took action, Red appeared behind one beheading the damn thing while Drax got a good hit on the other while it ran away.

"Doing good over there!" Red looked at Aldwin with ridicule as his arm started to heat up once again.

"Damn ice wolves, what are they doing down here?" With a grunt, Aldwin stood up once again and the group continued to walk.

"The beast shouldn't last long, got a good hit on its right eye back there." Drax wasn't one for talking but give him a sword and shield and he'll show his worth.

"Now's not the time, we need to reach to borders of Loran before we're caught and executed, only once we barbarian lands we'll be able to lay low for a while." The road in the forest lead to a mountain valley that was dangerous to most, but if you cross it's not the beasts that'll kill you, but the savages on the other side.

For years they have lived without rule ever since the first warlord appeared there completely serving the connection to the royal family. Now it's just a land full of savages, but it's that land where we still may have a chance to carry out our mission.

"That was...interesting, Bell did you see that?" James was looking at a group for some time now since their attempt assassination on the ruling family.

"Yes James, and it looks like they've already come to understand the basics of my system." Bell was paying more attention to their classes, the kid was a thief but had some training in the ways of assassination, the girl was an apprentice with was still super rare while the othe two had warrior related classes.

"Hey James, I have a pretty cool idea, you know how you made it so that people of your world has the possibility to ascend to godhood, why not 'sponsor' one of them?" Bell had a grin on her face that made James shiver.

"What d-do you mean b-by that?" James felt moisture on his back as he started to sweat.

"Oh...it's just a new system I came up with, you give your blessing to a person making them your champion, this allows them an easier chance to ascend, also you only get one champion per era, usually that means your champion closes an era or starts one." Bell was full on smiling, she definitely wasn't telling me everything.

"So you want me to 'sponsor' on of them so that by the end of their journey they have a high chance of ascending?" James could see the advantage in such a system even if he didn't know the down sides.

"Yep, pretty much, I already tested its functions on one of my own, it's been 200 years in my world after the law of time finished forming so a day in Lori-el is two in Tholara." Bell was staring off into space as she started ranting about her world.

"Wait, what's the main goal of your champion if your willing to say?" James was curious now.

"I don't mind really, after 200 years my first born are reaching the end of their lives, no longer are they a scared little group but they've grown into a bustling society with almost 100 thousand fairies. They prayed to me over the years for one thing and I decided to give it to them..." She paused for dramatic effect while the sounds of drums could be heard in the distance.

"They wish to spend the rest of their time in their home, the place where they were born, so I sponsored a young fae with royal bloodline and now she's out looking for Lilly, she just recently found the forest connected to her [Domain]."

"Did you just call your tree Lilly?" James has a confused look on his face.

"Of course, I go to play with her and the spirits every now and then and somehow she ended up developing a mind of her own, and that's the name she gave herself." James just nodded and focused back on his world.

"Okay one quick check up on the other races before going back to that group." James brought up the information on the other races while Bell disappeared back to her own [Domain].
