Alicia
Thursday, 6:00
I start looking up recipes to cook dinner with. "Alicia, you know that Simon kid in your school, right?" My dad says, taking a sip of his coffee.
"Yea?" I say, flipping through a recipe book.
"You've heard he's in a gang, of course. We need to track them down. I'm asking you to find out more about him and report to me every day, ok?" He explains.
"Sure." I say, not completely sure but distracted by flipping through yet another recipe book. I brush a lock of my light brown hair behind my ear. My father says I get it from my mom. She had a very light brown hair... We never really went out to eat because every night, mom would cook. Everything we ate was homemade by mom.
. . .
"Hey simon." I greet after he walks up to me. I start putting in my locker combo.
"Hey Alice." He says, looking around the hall then back to me.
"Uhm, I was wondering if you... want to be friends?" I ask, opening my locker then looking to him.
"Why me?" He asks. I look into his icy blue eyes and think of my moms eyes, everywhere I go I see her. Ever since she died.
"Why not?" I grin. He smiles as the bell rings. Simon and I have almost every class together, so we walk together to class.
. . .
We both sit in class, bored. There was a substitute so everyone is sitting next to their best friends. "Mrs.Vix, may I please go to the restroom?" Simon asks, sliding a small piece of paper to me. He gets up and walks out, he looks back at me and grins.
I read the note and it said:
Meet me at the parking lot in one minute
. . .
I make it out of class and see him lean on his motorcycle. "Is it just me or are you being that stereotypical bad boy?" I say with a wry laugh.
"Maybe, maybe not?" He says. "Need help getting on?" He offers.
"Yes please..." I smile sheepishly. He grabs me by the waist and lifts me up onto the motorcycle. He hops on and starts the motor. We drive all the way to Anaheim where Disneyland is. He sees a man at the parking lot entrance and pulls up.
"You Simon Gray?" The man asks. He looks old, but harmless.
"Obviously." Simon replies. The old man hands two tickets over to Disneyland California.
"You're kidding, right?" I laugh.
"No, schools out by now anyways. I sealed ya these tickets while waiting for you." He says.
"Ok, well how'd you know Disneyland was my favorite place?" I smile. He starts to drive into the parking lot, get in, and find parking.
"Because you dropped this picture from your locker." He gives me a picture of me and my parents posing in front of Disneyland castle six years ago, back when I was ten years old, three months before my mother died. I'm speechless so the journey for a parking spot was awfully quiet, but also serene at the same time.
We find a nice parking spot and head over to Disneyland. We take the mini tram ride to Disney then enter the park. "Ooh, Wait here." He says, entering the shop. I look behind me to where the people are entering and my heart melts seeing a little boy in a prince costume. I turn back around and see him leave the shop with two Mickey ears. One was a sally, and the other a jack skellington from Nightmare Before Christmas. He puts the sally ears gently on my head and he puts on his. I laugh. I haven't felt as happy as I am now in six years, thanks to Simon.
"Don't worry, I didn't steal them. I brought a lot of money inside my backpack." He says. I wrap an arm around his arm and we walk throughout Disneyland. "What ride for you want to go on first?" He asks.
"The little mermaid." I reply quickly. "That was me and my fathers favorite ride." I add.
We get on the big seashells for the ride and start moving. I always admired all the animatronics and how it almost felt like you were actually under water. He turns his head over to me as I do the same to him. We almost kiss until the ride stops and the electricity goes out. I lean forward and try to look behind our shell but I just see pitch black. I dig through my backpack and get out a flashlight. I turn it on and look around. "You ACTUALLY carry a flashlight on you?" He asks.
"I mean, it's LA, why not?" I say. A worker comes out and tells everybody to evacuate the ride and leave Disneyland because they had a blackout and it's never happened since a really long time ago and they had absolutely NO idea what's wrong with it. She also added that we will have a refund on our tickets by getting new ones on our way out the park.
. . .
He takes me back home and we say goodbye. That was a dream, it almost felt like I wasn't awake for the most of it. I take off my Disney ears and enter my house. I go on my bed and see a post Simon tagged me on Instagram. It was us on the tram ride. I smile and start to fall asleep.
