Chapter 4 - Sweet n’ soft

Simon

Monday, 3:12

It's after school and I hadn't talked to Alicia all day, which surprisingly, drove me crazy. She slipped a note in my locker telling me to meet her in the english room. "I'm here." I walk, the room empty with only her in it. She's sitting on a desk, flattening her skirt, then adjusting her ponytail.

"Simon. I want you to be my boyfriend." She says.

"Alicia. We don't fit. Plus, what about Ryland?" I ask.

"Simon, I can relate to you somehow. I hate my father and my mom is gone, I haven't slept in my house for days, it's almost as if I don't have parents, plus, Ryland is having an affair with Elaine. I can tell, the other day she said he had a cute shirt." She explains, gesturing her hands.

"The problem here is you don't know the feeling of them being truly gone. You have a dad. I'd kill to have a father but guess what? He died of overdose and my mom committed suicide. I live in a foster home with Beck and Bonnie who use us for the money. That's why we have this gang. We don't do drugs like everyone expects because we steal, we steal from shops and stores to survive." I remind her, getting close to her.

A moment of silence passes by and sooner or later I find myself hooking up with Alicia Diamond. We stay for so long, the time we walk out of the room, the whole place is shut down. The place is dark. "Hey, don't you have a flashlight?" I ask.

"Yea," She pulls out the flashlight and turns it on "The school looks eerie and haunted." She mentions.

"Well if anyone comes at us I have a switchblade." I remind her as we ponder the halls.

"Too bad we have a way out." She says, stopping and looking at me. I look at her, confused until she pulls a hobby pin out of her hair. "Now come on, I'm tired." She says, carrying on to the exit.

She picks the lock and we manage to get out of there. "Would I be crazy if I said that was pretty hot?" I say with a wry laugh.

"Lock picking? I can do way better than that." I put an arm around her shoulder.

. . .

He lightly touches me. So soft and delicate. Simon kisses me. Suddenly I hear a door open along with the words "I'm here!". Ryland walks in and I quickly get away from Simon. "Simon?"

"What are you doing here?" Simon asks, taking a step forward.

"I should be the one to ask that."

"But you didn't."

"What are you doing with my girlfriend?" Ryland raises his voice.

"Funny, cause it doesn't seem like she's your girlfriend at this moment."

"You know, I didn't take you as a cheater. What hurts me is the fact that you decide to cheat on me with this imbecile." Ryland is about to leave. "You know, Your not the only one screwing around with other people. Yeah, I hooked up with Elaine." He adds.

"You're bluffing." Simon mumbles.

"Wanna bet? Go ask her." Ryland opens the door and exits.

. . .

I find myself at a wedding with Simon. No surprise that we're crashing it. . . I hold his hand through the crowd with heavy scents of ten different brands of rich perfume. We run into Elaine and Ryland. Great surprise... "I guess he wasn't bluffing..." Simon says, letting go of my hand and putting his arm around me.

"What are you guys doing here?" Elaine asks.

"I'm a misfit, I don't need a reason to crash a wedding." Simon replies.

"Elaine, I thought we were best friends." I say.

"Well, I guess you thought wrong." She says and walks away with Ryland

It's the reception now and I've been socializing. I make my way over to Simon and grab his free hand while the other is holding a drink. "Oh, Si, did you drink the punch?" I ask, taking the drink from him.

"Yah." He says.

"Oh my god," I say under my breath. "The punch has alcohol in it. You're drunk." I lay a hand on his chest. "Come on, let's go. My grandmas place is just five minutes away from here, and I'm driving." I take his hand as we exit the wedding place.

. . .

We enter my grandmothers place and we settle down in my old bedroom. Simon walks up to me and starts kissing me. I chuckle and say "Simon, We're at my grandmothers".

"So?" He pulls away and grins.

I take a look at him. "Do you have your switchblade on you?" I ask, considering it.

"No, Alicia... Do you not trust me?"

"No no no, I just don't want to accidentally be stabbed when we fall into bed-"

"So now you don't think I know how to use one?" He asks, letting go of me and sitting in the front edge of the bed.

I walk towards him and our foreheads touch. "Simon, I trust you. And I'm sorry, but what are you so afraid of?"

"Alicia, you're the best thing that's happened to me. You see past a misfit, a lost boy. I don't want to lose you so quickly." He sheds a tear. I kiss him. It's funny how two lost souls found each other at their most vulnerable moments. I climb onto the bed as he starts to unzip the back of my dress.

Ryland

Elaine and I get to my house, but she is drunk as hell. She puts an arm around me and kisses me on the neck. "Elaine, stop..." I say.

"Why..?" She asks.

"I don't want to take advantage of you." I confess, backing up.

"You know what... I'm going to bed. I hope I see you there..." She says, walking in the room.
