Chereads / The Joy In Forgetting / Chapter 2 - 2) The Bestfriend

Chapter 2 - 2) The Bestfriend

Alyssa's POV

It was 12:30 am and it was raining heavily outside. I was just finishing off my homework when suddenly, the door opened with jingle sounds of keys. And before I knew it, my bestfriend, Bree Laughlin have appeared.

She stood in front of the door, squeezing the rain water out off her wet, messy, shoulder-length red hair. She was wearing a black, very tight, leather crop top that matches her belted shorts. A pretty scandalous outfit for a 16-year-old. But trust me, you would get use to it when your bestfriend is Bree.

I stayed sitting on the floor, beside the coffee table, where I did my homework, staring at her in surprise, and amazement.

"Lol, don't you just sit there!" she laughed, holding up a large, black, rectangular, luggage bag, which is also wet. "I'll need help for this!"

I was shocked... Well, not really, she usually comes as she please. But why in the middle of the rain? And why a luggage bag? What does she need that for? I mean, all of the stuff she would ever need was always here. Her clothes filled 65% of my closet space even.

"Um, Bree? What's with the bag?" I asked as I handed her a towel. She wiped herself, as well as her bag, before coming in. Not exactly until dry, but at least dry enough to not having water dripping everywhere on the floor.

"Where are mom and dad?" She asked while stepping into the living room. Bree and I were bestfriends since kindergarten, so calling my parents like her own parents is only normal. She ignored my question from earlier. But that's okay. She usually will answer them at one point.

"They won't be home until next week. I told you before, they went to visit my grandparents at Pitas." Pitas is actually about 5 hours drive away from where I'm living, KK (Stands for Kota Kinabalu), in Sabah.

"Oh yea... You just told me that yesterday."

While waiting for Bree to finish her shower, I made hot chocolates for the both of us. Shoving my homeworks off the coffee table, I placed the two large mugs on top.

"Oooh! I've been craving for this!" Bree sipped on the hot chocolate after she put on a maroon oversized sweater, matching with the ones I was wearing. "they always taste good after a lot of alcohol."

We were curling up at the either side of the couch.

"Was the party fun?" I was asking her about the party she went to earlier. It was a party that everybody was talking about, hosted by Steven Lee.

Yes... I meant that Steven. The one who blew vape in my face. He is also a rich, chinese brat who likes to hold parties in his mansion for at least every once in a month. He invites everyone, even the nerds. And sometimes, even teachers. People say that his party is always the wildest, and most trilling of all parties. Though I have never been to any of them.

Bree's eyes widen with excitement. It was as though she was dying, waiting for me to ask her that. "Fun?! Alyssa, you just missed thee best party of all times!"

I heard her say that line countless of times already. She never missed a single party hosted by Steven.

"Seriously, Alyssa. My dream is to make you leave the house at night one day!" Bree groaned, triggered that I just merely shrugged. "while you were finishing this homework from English class, which we probably won't even pass it to the teacher!" She pointed at my beautifully written essay, now lying on the floor.

She's true, though. Mr Griffin will not even remember about it, as long as no one from the class mention anything.

"And don't you dare reminding Mr Griffin about it tomorrow, either!" Bree added threateningly. I raised my hands in surrender.

"Liam Holden was so cool, you should've seen him drinking 1 litre of tumpung in less than a minute!"

For those who don't know, tumpung is like one of the sabahan's traditional wines. Rice wine. The taste of the wine is mostly sour. I only tried it once. But it's very strong. 3 glasses of it can already make you dizzy.

I blushed as she mentioned Liam's name. It would totally be interesting to see him doing that. But in fact, he did mention about the party earlier, this afternoon, where we were at the McDonald's. But aside from literally just mentioning the party, and mentioning the fact that he would attend it, he didn't say anything more. He didn't even ask whether I was going to go... Though I was pretty sure that he was hinting me to come as well.

I changed the topic. "So how are you going to school tomorrow?"

"I came here with my motorbike so," Bree yawned. Her motorbike is her most prized possession, she inherited from her cousin, Ashley, which is also Ashton's older sister. Once again, yes. It's that Ashton. The one with the piercings.

Of course. How else would she come here? But to bring a big travel bag along with her, on a motorbike, that's insane. But nothing is ever too insane for Bree.

After finishing our hot chocolates, we proceeded chatting upstairs, in my room.

"You sure you don't wanna ride my motorbike?" Bree asked, brushing her hair in front of the mirror.

I was smoothing out my bed. "Nah, I'll pass," motorbike rides scares me. I've never been to one before but still, it's scary.

Bree smiled teasingly at me. "I know, I understand. Alyssa needs some alone time with Liam, don't you?"

One thing about Liam, he sobers real quickly. So even if he gets drunk and crazy last night, we could still wake up in the morning, looking like as though he never did.

I hate it how Bree could read some part of me from inside of my head.

I exhaled and told Bree what happened between Liam and I earlier this morning and the following afternoon. Once more, Bree's eyes widen eagerly.

"Girl, I'm telling you, Liam has a thing for you. He couldn't keep his eyes off of me the moment I stepped inside the mansion earlier."

I jerked my head away from her, wondering how on earth could she relate about how Liam has a thing for me with Liam checking out on her all night long.

"It means that he was hoping for you to come along, idiot," Bree smirked. "don't be all jelly."

"I was not!"

"Whatever you say. I still think that he kinda likes you... a lot."

I shook my head in disagreement. But some part of me, a very tiny, hopeful part, thinks that it's possible. Or maybe Liam was just guilty for making a girl cry...

Yes, maybe that's the reason why. I'm a very uncool, nerdy girl who seldoms have fun, and he felt bad for making my non-colourful, boring world, worst by making me cry earlier.

"Yea, yea, go and shake your head. Maybe it'll shake your insecurity off of you too," Bree snorted.

I walked closer to Bree and threw a pillow at her. "Okay, you just made yourself to sleep on the floor tonight!"

I usually let her sleep on the bed together with me.

Bree laughed wildly, knowing that I would never do that to her. She threw the pillow back at me, slammed her back against my bed, pulled the blanket on to her, and shut her eyes, pretending to sleep.

"But really, though," She began as I groaned. "I have an idea, why don't the next time he's being rude to you, you fight back! It will scare him for sure!"

I raised an eyebrow. "Fight back?"

"You know... Talk back! Like, don't just ignore him like you usually do!"

I thought about it for a second, and that is actually not quite of a bad idea. I would really like to know how would Liam react if I talk back.

I would feel guilty for testing him though, but I'll just do it once, then... Once won't hurt... Right? Besides, he has always been rude to me, a little talking-back won't hurt. That will be nothing, compared to his rudeness.

"Oh, and..." She spoke in a more serious tone than before. "the reason I'll be staying here for a week or so."

"Yea?"

She's finally answering to my question from where I asked when she just got here.

"Ughh," she rolled her eyes. "Laura's here."

Laura Laughlin is Bree's older sister, head girl in our school 2 years ago.

They never had a good relationship with each other.

Laura is actually quite a decent person, to be honest. She's just too strict and organised about everything. Well, maybe for Bree, who's a very wild and carefree person.

To be precise, their personalities don't match. Laura went to study abroad after finishing highschool. I guess they're currently having a holiday.

I nodded in understanding. "Okay."

After that, Bree started talking about one of the other times she attended Steven's party, she almost got this boy to hook up with her but she ended up throwing up all over the boy's face the very moment before their lips touch for a kiss.

The story was uncomfortable for me, but I almost got used to those kinds of stories because Bree's got a truck load of them. Sometimes, I wondered how could we be bestfriends when the two of us are like opposite from each other.

Bree and I continued talking until it was midnight. I can't even remember the time we stopped talking and drifted off to sleep.
