Alyssa's POV
I woke up with a start, gasping as if in need of air after being under the ocean for too long... Liam! Where is he? Is he okay? A part of me didn't even want to find out. But I got up anyway.
"Alyssa! Don't move!"
I turned to look at my parents and Bree. I looked around and noticed that I was sitting on the hospital bed. Tubes were sticking out from my arms. But I don't care. All I care about now was Liam Holden. But like I mentioned before, I don't want to know either.
Didn't know what to do, I lay back down, covering my face with my palms. Helplessly, I muttered his name. "Liam..."
"Hey, hey, heyyyyy," Bree's voice sounded unusually soft. She pulled my hands away from my face. "Liam's had it worse than you, but he's alright. He's good."
"Thank God!" A wave of relief hit me good after hearing those words from Bree. I cried even harder.
"We were arguing a-and I s-said something very b-bad to him, and-"
"Yea, we know, we know," Bree gave me a hug.
"We don't blame you, honey," mom squeezed my hand tenderly.
Dad gave a kiss on my forehead. "Yea. You are fine. And that's what matters the most. I mean, I think we still need to pay for the damage on Liam's car, but... Like I said, you're condition matters mos-"
Mom gave dad a nudge on the ribs. "Very insensitive," she rolled her eyes.
I managed a little smile, knowing that my parents and my bestfriend were here for me.
Bree told me that a lorry truck hit us when we were at the junction, trying to get to the main road. It was mainly our fault for speeding up. But the lorry truck driver were also driving fast, furthermore, nothing happended to him. So he insisted to pay for the whole thing, but my parents felt bad about it, and only accept 1/3 of the offer.
I guess my parents drove back to KK from Pitas after hearing about my accident. But that is what worries me. I have been unconscious for more than 5 hours? How long have Liam been unconscious?
The doctor said that Liam and I will only be discharged after 72 hours. But I can't wait for that long to meet him. I just can't calm down until I see him. So the doctor unplugged my tubes after an hour since I have woken up. I was pretty sure that I don't need them anymore. And miracle-ly, my injuries weren't that horrible anyway. Just a bad bruise on the right arm, and a bleeding forehead.
My parents and Bree took me to Liam's room. The sight of him with glass cuts and bandages stained with blood wrapped around his head got me in tears. He looked so tired as he was talking to his parents, but still as attractive as always. The lorry truck must have hit mostly at his side of the door. That's why Liam was in a worse condition.
Slowly, his usual bored eyes wandered towards my direction. I broke into a run and wrapped my arms around him. I don't care anymore. If he's going to get angry, he can be angry at me all he wants.
"I intended to apologise while still having him in my arms. But the lump in my throat prevented me from saying anything.
Unexpectedly, Liam didn't move an inch.
I released Liam after what feels like an hour of holding him. His usual expressionless face contorted under the hospital lights as he finally spoke. "You seem like a very nice person."
I stared at Liam in confusion. That was a very random thing to say.
His face showed uncertainty as he spoke again, "You're Alyssa, right?"

Liam's POV
I woke up lying on the hospital bed, not having any memory of anything. I didn't even know whether this is a bad thing or not. But the woman who claimed herself as my mother burst into tears when I asked her for my name. So... I guess it's a bad thing...?
The man who's supposed to be my father calmed mother down. They got to the doctor and the doctor said that I have a memory loss. Must be the result of the so-called car crash I just lived through. But luckily, it was expected that my memory will be back to normal in about 6 months.
For about 2 hours, my parents reminded me my name, my age, and the reason I got here from the first place. They kept on mentioning this girl named Alyssa, who was supposed to be involved with the car crash together with me. I wondered where did we went to...
My parents seemed to worry about Alyssa's condition as much as mine. If she really is as sweet and as caring as how it sounded like when my parents were talking about her, I wonder what was she doing with me. Was I a nice person?
All I know was that I could almost comfirm on how Alyssa sounded like from my parents, the moment she stepped in and embraced me. She was... Warm. I would really like to stay in her arms for a little bit longer, closing my eyes, to fall asleep like that.
Her reaction on how I spoke to her... She looked scared. I didn't mean to scare her like that. But before I got the chance to say something, my parents gently dragged her out of the room, followed by two more adults, that seemed like her parents, and a teenage girl, who's probably not related to her. I think that they are going to talk about my memory loss. I felt pathetic. Even I can do that myself.
After half an hour, they all went back in, facing me. Sadness are visible through their eyes. I don't like them.
My mother walked to me and squeezed my hand. "We'll be back, okay? Anything you need?"
"I'm good," I replied. Trying hard to make myself sound more cheerful than how I actually am, which I miserably failed.
Soon, they all shook hands with each other and went out. Except for Alyssa.
She stood there, waiting for everyone to leave. Honestly, I wanted her to leave as well. I just don't like it when they gave me the look of pity. It made me feel useless cause I wouldn't know how to act either.
After the two of us were alone, she began unpacking the food that my mother brought for me.
"You must be hungry," she said as she carefully scooped some porridge from the big pot into a small bowl.
Hesitating, I asked "Aren't you, too?"
With a smile, she shrugged and helped me to sit. "I'll just eat later."
She placed the bowl on the table beside my bed and went to open the curtains. Outside was in pitch black, you couldn't see anything. However, Alyssa acted like there are tons of interesting things to stare at. I knew that she had something on her mind. Maybe about me... Yea, that would make sense cause everyone was also busy pitying me as well.
To break the silence, and also because I wanted to talk to her, I asked "How old are you?"
Without turning her head, she answered. "I'm 16."
"Oh, so you're a year younger than me."
"Yea."
We fell silent again before I blurted out. "Sorry if this sounds weird to you, but... What are we?"
And with that, Alyssa finally turned to me. Her eyes seemed like it was scanning through my heart and mind.
"Why do you seem so worried about me? What am I to you?" I asked back.
Alyssa furrowed her eyebrows uncomfortably. Unexpectedly, she laughed. "I don't know as well. Are we even considered as friends?"
I didn't get what she meant by that. But I swear that the sound of her genuine laugh was like a ray of sunshine after the rain. I couldn't help but smile for the first time in this few hours where I couldn't remember anything.
"What do you mean by that?"
Still smiling, Alyssa sat on the chair beside my bed. "I mean, yes. You are my friend. But I don't know if you felt the same way about me."
"How could that make sense?"
"Oh, trust me. It will make sense," She grinned. "wait till your memories came back. You would wish that you had never asked me this...or you would simply decide to never talk to me ever again."
She stood back up to scoop herself a bowl of porridge. I remembered the one she scooped for me earlier, reached for it and began tasting some.
"We went to school together everyday... You drive. And you also drive us home from school as well," she explained after she was sitting on the chair again.
In between eating my porridge, I asked "So, my house is near yours?"
"Forgot to mention that we're neighbours."
Alyssa and I talked for the rest of the night. One odd thing that I noticed about her was that her eyes sparkled a little more whenever she talks about me. The past me. The original Liam Holden. And that made me wonder on the things that I had ever done for her to make her smile that much.
Soon, she left to her own room. Left just me, and two empty bowls on the table, which had been wiped clean by Alyssa.
I stared at the ceiling until I drifted off to sleep. I took back my words. I'm glad that Alyssa stayed.
