When Xuan Yi first entered the Mu Village, she did not head straight for the Yun Family Mansion. She went towards the market and found the slave trader in-charge of the Mu Village. There is normally one trader per village where the wealthy families would purchase their slaves from. Some traders would travel around and they would have slaves from other parts of the country and sometimes other countries but those are normally reserved for the extremely wealthy who could afford such exotic "goods".
The Yun Family is considered a wealthy family in the Mu village which would make sense that each master in the household should have some personal servants serving them. Especially the female masters would have a few personal maidservants as they are not allowed out of the house without permission.
Now that one of the young miss Yun's personal maidservants has died, the family would need to buy another slave from the market to replace her. Since it is a personal maidservant for their young miss, they would have to get someone of higher quality but to find one in such short notice, they would have to make do with one of the better ones from the slave traders instead.
The tent was mainly covered and had a chair at the entrance. A burly man sat on the chair as he fanned himself with a makeshift fan. His clothes were similar to a thug and Xuan Yi could vaguely guess where his slaves mostly come from. She walked up to him confidently and asked to meet with his owner. The man scanned her from head to toe before he shooed her away.
"Get away from here, lass. You are too young to talk to me," the man waved her away with a bored yawn.
Xuan Yi did not react to his discourtesy. Instead, her eyes glinted coldly as she repeated her words.
The man felt chills crawl down his spine at her tone and he unconsciously straightened his back. Taking a second closer look at the young miss in front of him, he thought carefully before he grunted and told her to wait for a moment.
He then disappeared behind the curtains of the tent and reappeared after a while. "The boss will see you," the man told Xuan Yi before he lifted the curtains to allow her to pass. She walked into the tent and was greeted with a middle-aged woman smoking cigar. She eyed Xuan Yi the moment she stepped into the tent and did not speak.
Xuan Yi took the initiative and gave her a slight bow. The woman blew out a puff of smoke before she jerked her head towards an empty chair across her. Xuan Yi did not see a single slave in the tent but her sensitive ears could pick up some people behind another set of curtains. That must have been where the slaves are kept. Xuan Yi maintained her expressionless face and sat down across the lady boss.
"What do you want, little girl?" The lady boss crossed her legs in a sexy fashion before she leans forward.
"I wish to enquire if the Yun family has come to purchase a maidservant," Xuan Yi said directly.
"Well, I am not too sure about that." The lady boss gave her an arrogant smirk as she took another puff, avoiding her question. Information does not come free. This is common knowledge. Xuan Yi understood this and had prepared in advance before coming to the Mu Village.
Taking a palm-sized box from her sleeves, she handed it to the man who stood beside the lady boss. He took it and opened it before showing it to his boss. She held out her hand and the man handed the box to her. Weighing it in her experienced hands, she knew the amount of silver inside is not little. To be able to hand out such an amount without hesitation, the background behind this girl is not simple.
"Madam Yun sent word that she requires a maidservant to replace someone who has died in an accident and wanted us to find someone worthy of their only daughter. Young miss Yun has an extremely good reputation, not every slave is good enough to serve her. Madam Yun wishes for those that are trained and are obedient. As we currently do not have such goods, we are getting some from the capital but of course, the price is different." With the amount in her hands, the lady boss does not mind answering Xuan Yi's question. As a seasoned merchant, she has her principles which allowed her to survive in the trade industry. If it was just information, Xuan Yi would have overpaid for it.
"Little lass, you gave me such a huge amount of silver. I am sure what you want is not just information, right?" The lady boss weighed the silver in her hands and gave Xuan Yi a knowing smirk.
"Make Madam Yun hire me," Xuan Yi knew she did not have to beat around the bush much with someone like the lady boss.
"Sure, but the profits?" The lady boss raised an eyebrow at Xuan Yi who just brushed it off. She is not lacking in anything and definitely not lacking any money. She is the demon lord for god sake.
"That won't do, it's not like me to eat this much money from my clients." The lady boss frowned at her answer.
"If that is the case, keep the money with you under my name. Should I require your assistance again, then I shall seek your services with that fund." Xuan Yi pondered a little before coming up with a solution to satisfy both of them. She cannot be carrying huge amounts of money with her if she were to be sold as a maidservant. It would be too contradicting.
The lady boss nodded in satisfaction before she had her men to prepare the documents and together, they set out for the Yun household.
"It's a good thing that you are young and look pretty. Madam Yun will like you," the lady boss told her with a smile as they made their way towards the wealthier area of the Mu village.
True to the lady boss's words, Madam Yun immediately took a liking to her when she first saw her. A sensible young girl who knows how to please their masters is truly worth the money spent.
Furthermore, she has a pretty face and would surely grow to become a beautiful lady. She could use this maidservant to establish connections with other wealthy families if any of the young masters took a liking to her and made her his concubine.
This was a normal occurrence where the personal maidservants of a married lady are accepted as concubines in their husband's families. It is a method to establish stronger ties between the families and it is also a way for the slaves to climb up in position. Madame Yun happily paid a huge amount of silver to the lady boss and took Xuan Yi to meet her master.
Xuan Yi bowed towards the lady boss of the slave trader and both of them parted with a knowing glint in their eyes.
"Looks like there won't be many peaceful days in the Yun Family," the lady boss said to herself softly as she made her way back to her tent.
