The woman snorted before she replied, "as if your kind can see me."
The woman was wearing a long black dress with fluttering long sleeves that accentuated her figure. Her face pale and narrow, skin pale snow white and red blood red. She is an extremely beautiful woman that seems out of the world. But that is not the most important thing that Xuan Yi noticed. The sharp fangs that could be seen occasionally as she speaks and her red eyes that are the same color as her lips exposed her identity.
In the lands of the undead where devils and demons roam, there is a clan of demons called the vampires. The main branch is mainly vampires who drink blood for survival. Their food is not hard to find as hunting and killing within the realm of the undead is not prohibited since it is the strong that speaks and the weak that listens. Though they do keep a few humans by their side as a delicacy for the elders and the clan's family. As long as they do not go overboard by kidnapping and enslaving to many humans, the demon lord's people will not step in and although the immortals despise them, they would normally close one eye to this because vampires are extremely difficult to fight against.
While the main branch feast on human blood, there is a sub-branch called the Yin Demons. They are all women who do not have an ounce of yang energy in their bodies and they require a continuous supply of it to balance the energy inside their bodies or they will wither and die. There are rules and regulations to control the number of men that are kept in their dens and if anyone is to violate them, they will be punished on the spot.
Because they need to keep the balance between the 3 realms, immortals are not to interfere too much of the matters concerning the other realms, demons and devils are not to torment the other realms and the humans from the realm of the living can't really do anything to other realms. If anyone happens to catch anyone committing a crime from another realm, they are to report to their realm head and the head will contact the ruler of the offender and he will be punished accordingly. This places a clear divide between the 3 realms but the immortals might step in and stop a criminal if they feel that the demon lord's people cannot handle it.
There have been cases of demons causing havoc in the human realm and Xuan Yi had people patrolling around the human realm just to have some damage control and to drag those people back before they do anything that gives the immortals a chance to step in and flaunt their authority and prowess in her face.
Xuan Yi eyed the Yin demon in front of her. Yin Demons do not like to go outside of their dens so there has to be a good enough reason for one to be standing in front of Yun Le.
"Who are you to tell me where to go and where not to?" The Yin Demon rolled her eyes before she snapped her fingers at Yun Le. Her pale and long fingers were extremely close to Yun Le's face and it was sudden that it managed to catch Xuan Yi off guard. Xuan Yi waited for Yun Le to react to the Yin Demon's rude action as it has been totally uncalled for but Yun Le did not react. She seems to be swaying lightly while standing at her spot, unmoving. Xuan Yi drifted over to see that Yun Le seems to have fallen asleep while standing. Her eyes closed as she swayed lightly and the Yin demon smirked before telling her to bring her brother and her fiance to her room tomorrow. After giving her orders, the Yin demon slipped out of the window and left Yun Le standing in her room in a dazed state.
Xuan Yi narrowed her eyes. Why didn't she think about it? Illusions are tricks of the mind caused by the poison. If the poison is inhaled instead, the effects are reduced. Prolonged inhaling of the poison would cause the person's mind to be weaker than a normal person's and a Yin Demon's specialty is mind control.
If the Yin demon controlled Yun Le, it would be obvious because the person would constantly be in a dazed state like how Yun Le is right now. Any passing patrol would notice the odd behavior. If Yun Le had a weak mind, the Yin Demon just have to give hypnotic suggestions.
Hypnosis.
Why did Xuan Yi not think of it? Xuan Yi wanted to slap herself. Is closing herself off in the palace making her mind become dull? She needs someone to challenge her wits from time to time in order to keep up with these criminals. Xuan Yi does not have to think why the Yin demon wanted Yun Le to bring two men to her. This is kidnapping in broad daylight. Are the men in the Yin Demon dens too little? Normally the men supplied to them by the demon lord are criminals whose souls are condemned. Since they are going to die, why not supply some yang energy to the yin demons before their soul gets shredded into pieces? Xuan Yi made a mental note to check the situation when she returns but for now, she closed the windows for Yun Le and left her standing where she was before returning back to her body.
The next day, Xuan Yi woke up early and went about helping her young miss prepare for the day. She went to the kitchen to fetch Yun Le's breakfast and tended to the small garden with her young miss before Yun Le suddenly wanted to visit her brother. Xuan Yi followed along with her young miss as they made their way over to Yun Qi's courtyard. Xuan Yi does not know what Yun Le wants from her brother but she is sure that this is the hypnosis working. There was no reason for Yun Le to visit her brother and she had not said a word about it to Xuan Yi beforehand. It must have been the hypnosis making Yun Le think that she has an impulse to visit her brother and that is why she is heading over now.
Hypnosis is a strong weapon but it only works on the weak. It is such a weak method that it does not even work on most humans but if there are other things at work such as the sachet, then there is a higher chance of it succeeding. Once you have the person's mind in your grasp, the person will have an extremely hard time trying to escape. Most do not succeed after falling into it.
"Young Miss is here to visit Young Master?" One of Yun Qi servants spotted Yun Le near the entrance of the courtyard and went over to greet her.
"Yes, is my brother in?" Yun Le smiled at her and Xuan Yi praised her. This is one of the reasons why she does not think Yun Le is a bad person. She never treats anyone badly. Be it a servant or a noble, she treats them equally and this aspect of Yun Le makes Xuan Yi nod her head in approval.
"Young Master Yun is currently having a discussion with Young Master Ma but this servant is sure that he would not mind Young Miss visiting," the servant bowed and went ahead to announce her arrival. As expected, Young Master Yun does not mind. He came to the entrance and escorted her inside personally.
"Younger sister did not tell me that you will be coming over so elder brother did not greet you at the entrance, do not blame elder brother." Yun Qi held Yun Le arms gently and said in a doting manner as they slowly walked back to his study as if he was worried his younger sister would trip.
"How could younger sister blame elder brother when it is I who came unannounced. I hope I am not intruding into anything," Yun Le lowered her eyelashes as she said quietly.
"How can it be considered intruding if it is my younger sister? Not intruding, not intruding at all." Yun Qi waved his hands as he brushed off Yun Le's concerns and they quickly arrived at the study.
"Yun Le, you are here." Young Master Ma was sitting in the study, a teacup in one hand and a book in another. Xuan Yi really wanted to question what did Young Master Yun and Young Miss Yun see in this person. His fiancee has come and yet he sat there to read and did not go out to escort her. What exactly is he trying to say? That he does not value this fiancee of his? No wonder Yun Le's mood was down when she saw her brother coming out to escort her. She must have expected that at least her fiance would come out as well to greet her. With him not coming out, it gives her a feeling that she is intruding into their personal time.
"Yun Le greets Young Master Ma," Yun Le greeted as she bent her knees and saluted.
"Hmm," Young Master Ma barely acknowledged her before he returned to his book. He was talking to Yun Qi about his engagement before Yun Le came and interrupted them. Now that she has come, he cannot persuade Yun Qi anymore and was quite dissatisfied with that. Yun Qi is also stubborn about this and refused to break off the engagement.
"Young Master Ma, forgive me but I truly cannot return your feelings." Yun Qi had said to him before going to escort his sister.
Young Master Ma clenched his fist around the book he was holding tightly in anger. From young, he had gotten everything he wanted and everyone pampered him and flattered him. As the oldest son in the Ma family, he was expected to succeed his father and lead the family so everything will be his in the matter of time. He has needed to chase after anything. Men admired him while women flocked to him. Even when he realized that he was actually attracted to males more so than to females, there was never a case where the man rejected him either.
For Yun Qi to reject him, not only is that an insult to his ego, it made him more determined to obtain him. It was like this at first until Young Master Ma fell for him. He had chased him, tried to woo him and showered him with affection but all these did not move Yun Qi the slightest. During the process of chasing Yun Qi, Young Master Ma had learned his character as he spent time with the person. Learned his habits, his quirks, and his ambitions, and he had come to fully respect Yun Qi. This is why he is also very angry at the fact that Yun Qi would give up his ambition for a marriage arranged by his father. Yun Qi had once spoken that he wants to see the world. By expanding his family business, by doing trade, he is able to travel to different parts of the world and see for himself how wide the world is. But if this marriage were to go through, he would have to enter the capital because of his wife's prestige.
The other party is a third-ranked official. If his daughter of the first wife is to marry out of the capital, it would be a disgrace. So the groom will have to start his new family in the capital. He would have to expand his business in the capital and once he starts his life in there, Young Master Ma feels that he would be stuck in there till he passes. He does not want that. He wants Yun Qi to be happy even if he is not in his life which is why he is trying so hard to persuade him.
"I have overstayed. I hope Young Master Yun will reconsider what I have just said, excuse me." Young Master Ma decided that there was nothing he could do if Yun Le is here so he put down his book and wanted to leave but Yun Le stopped him.
"Please wait, Young Master Ma. Yun Le is here to invite both Young Master Ma and elder brother to my courtyard to take a look at my personal garden. Yun Le has prepared some tea snacks as well," Yun Le smiled sweetly at the leaving Young Master Ma.
Although he was initially irritated that Yun Le came in and interrupted them, it is hard to stay angry at her for long. Especially when she smiles like this. If he continued to stay angry, it would not look good either so Young Master Ma nodded. Yun Qi obviously would not reject his little sister and followed her back to her courtyard.
Xuan Yi stayed behind Yun Le as she silently observed. She kept her mouth shut and walked behind her young miss as they made their way back to their courtyard. The garden was not big so it didn't take much time to view it. The four of them then made their way into the sitting area and Xuan Yi went to bring the snacks in. In truth, those snacks are indeed made by Yun Le but she had never said it was for Yun Qi or her fiance. She must have bought them up as an excuse to bring both of them over. Xuan Yi closed the door of the sitting-room behind her and chanted an invisibility spell before she hopped back into the room via the opened window.
She waited a bit and as she expected, the air around the room started getting colder and colder until there was a layer of fog. Yun Le and Yun Qi had already started to go into a daze while only Young Master Ma was alert.
Xuan Yi could see the dark imprint on Young Master Ma pulsing as it defended him against the fog. Young Master Ma also seemed to realize that something was happening but he does not know what so he waited. Xuan Yi also waited for a bit, there is no need for her to retrieve those snacks from their personal kitchen anymore. The two children of the Yun Family does not seem to be in any situation to have tea anyways.
