"Xuan Yi has troubled Lord Ye for this small matter, Xuan Yi is ashamed. The Yin Demons are people of the undead realm and yet Xuan Yi has failed to control them. Xuan Yi begs Lord Ye for forgiveness," Xuan Yi bowed as she spoke.
This was truly her mistake. She has overlooked her duties which resulted in this mess. She has to take responsibility for her actions. Even if Lord Ye does not punish her, her teacher would once he learns about this and she is not going to make any excuses for herself.
Lord Ye shook his head lightly, "there is nothing to forgive. It is the Yin Demon Clan who had been imprudent and this Lord just lent Lady Xuan Yi a helping hand."
Xuan Yi, "if Lord Ye says so."
"Hmm," Lord Ye nodded at her before he turned towards the kneeling Chen Xiu and retracted his aura. Chen Xiu heaved a sigh of relief before he stood up with some difficulty.
"Do not touch females without their consent," Lord Ye glared coldly at Chen Xiu who nodded stiffly.
Lord Ye walked closer to Xuan Yi and took one of the loose strands of hair. Tucking it behind her ears, he whispered softly. "Rest well," before he turned on his heels and walked out of the audience hall, leaving Xuan Yi rooted to her spot in surprise.
Lowering her eyelashes, she pondered on Lord Ye's actions. She had tried her best to avoid the Imperial Family in the heavenly realm so this can be said to be the first time she spoke to the second prince. The only other time she had spoken to any member of the Imperial Family was to greet them during her ascend as the Demon Lord. She did not understand why is the second prince helped her nor does she understand why did the second prince act so familiar with her.
Either way, not one of the members of the Imperial Family brings good news. She should steer away from all of them even if they intrude into her home like how the second prince did.
"I was not informed that you were close to his Highness," Chen Xiu grumbled.
Now that the second prince is gone, he can complain to his heart's content. Lord Ye's arrival had interrupted a good scene and Chen Xiu was unwilling. He had spent so much time leeching onto the Lady but now that Lord Ye has spoken, Chen Xiu could no longer get close with the Lady.
"I am not," Xuan Yi answered before she headed towards the study to check on Yun He's progress. Chen Xiu heaved a sigh at his misfortune before he followed her out as well. Since he could no longer achieve his goal, he should return to the heavenly realm.
"My little kitten has returned!" Yun He was sprawled across the couch with books and papers littered around the once neat and tidy study room.
"Stop calling me that." Xuan Yi immediately retorted as she walked towards him while avoiding all the papers.
"But I am done, this Lord is done with the damned paperwork and I am free!" Yun He grinned. He jumped up as he waved his hand quickly, the papers flew and sorted themselves out into a neat stack. Yun He then handed the papers to his brother before turning to Xuan Yi.
"Little Kitten, I finished my work! Let's play," Yun He said in excitement.
"Play?" Xuan Yi had no idea what her friend is talking about and she frowned.
"That's right. I have always wanted to go to the realm of the living and help them solve problems." Yun He's eyes gleamed and Xuan Yi knew that he will not give up until he gets what he wants.
"Stop beating around the bush and tell me what is going on," Xuan Yi hit him on the shoulder so that he will stop fooling around.
"Is Brother going to come with us?" Yun He glanced at his brother and rejoiced when Chen Xiu shook his head.
"Alright then, see you brother. I won't be sending you off," Yun He's tone was gleeful and it made Chen Xiu feel like punching the lights out of him. He saluted to the Lady before he headed out.
Once Yun He is sure that his brother is not around, he immediately beckons Xuan Yi to come closer. Xuan Yi inched a little closer in response and Yun He told her that he had heard of some rumors that he wished to check out in the human realm.
Apparently, there have been a few severe floods happening in the villages that are near the sea and the people believe that it is because the water god is angry. To appease the water god's anger, they first offered offerings. Incense and fruits along with some performances to entertain the water god, hoping that with these, the floods would stop. However, the floods only got worse.
But this was because of nature. Changes in the climate cause changes in water body behavior. This has nothing to do with the water god and there is nothing Yun He could do to stop the floods. This is not the first time that even immortals feel helpless against certain situations. He did his best to control the water so that it did not claim any human lives but things started to get worse when the people affected by the floods started to offer brides as offerings.
No, he could not call them offerings. Those were sacrifices. Those young ladies who drowned in the raging currents of the sea sacrificed to appease the water god. This is not the first time in history where humans do such foolish things to appease the gods but this time is different. The ladies who have been sacrificed into the same waters every few months had evolved into vicious spirits. Those waters had claimed many lives previously and the women's souls have absorbed those negative emotions.
The floods should have stopped but because of the resentment those ladies held when they were sacrificed, they refuse to allow the floods to stop. They increased the severity of the floods and it had started to claim the lives of the people. As Xuan Yi is the Demon Lord, she is an expert in dead people which is why Yun He came to find her for help.
Yun He clenched his fists tightly as he explained the situation to Xuan Yi.
"Why did you not tell me when you first came?" Xuan Yi asked solemnly. Such an urgent matter and he did not tell her immediately. If she had not asked, will he not say anything at all?
"I have been keeping an eye out on them so don't worry, they have just chosen their fifth sacrifice. We still have time," Yun He hurriedly explained.
"How long do we have before she dies?"
"A few weeks to a month from now."
Xuan Yi nodded. That is enough time for her to investigate and stop this madness.
