Chapter 13 - A New Old Weapon

Sophie ran to the north, her hair flowing behind her. With every step, flowers sprouted under her feet. Smiling, she slowed her pace. She turned back around and saw the tower standing far in the distance. She back around and kept walking, determined to find Nathan, her family and his, and save them. She realized that she left her bag with the horse and it had to be home by now. "I hope that the village will have a weapon I could borrow," Sophie said to herself. She looked up into the sky and saw that the sun was almost setting. "Oh no! I need to make camp or find a way to get to the village faster." As soon as she said that the most magnificent buck came trotting through the forest. It stopped not far from Sophie and bowed its head down, beckoning for her to climb on. She obliged and climbed onto its back. As soon as she grabbed hold of its antlers it started speeding north to the village.

As the moon just appeared over the horizon the roofs of the village became visible. the buck kept moving until it arrived at the edge of the village. Sophie hopped off and smiled at the buck. "Thank you," she said as the buck trotted off. Sophie wandered through the village and eventually found a inn. She stepped inside its doors and approached the man at the counter. "Hi, I'm Sophie Ricana. Ange told me that your village can assist me in my journey?" Sophie said to the man. The man looked up from his work and gasped.

"Right this way!" The man said standing up. He led Sophie down a hallway and into a room. Inside the room sat a bed that resembled the one she had at home. "We've been waiting for you since we first heard the prophecy. We will provide you anything you need for your journey. Horses, weapons, clothes, food, we have it all."

"Oh! Thank you so much. I promise that I will save your town from Kasai. Or at least my daughter will," Sophie said gratefully.

"No, thank you. Get some rest. In the morning you can roam around town and get any materials and items you need. But first I have something for you," The man walked out of the room and returned with something covered by a burlap cloth. "Here. I found this years ago just lying in the forest. I didn't know who's it was until I heard her story. It belongs to a woman known as Akila DarkBrother. But do not give it back to her. She will agree that it should be passed down your child. But it will assist you in your journey," He said handing Sophie the package. Inside was Akila's double-bladed scythe.

"This was Nathan's mother's. I think she'll be happy someone found it. Thank you," Sophie said.

"Mhmmm. I will leave you be. Get some rest. Your destiny awaits you." The man left the room once again, closing the door behind him. Sophie set the scythe against the wall and sat on the bed. Falling back she sighed, missing Nathan.

"I hope he's okay, " she muttered, falling asleep.
