Chapter 11 - A Foolish Sacrifice

"Sophie? Did you hear those voices?" Nathan asked as he was jumping onto his horse.

"What voices?" Sophie replied, her horse whinnying.

"Never-mind. It was probably just the wind," Nathan said, starting to lead his horse out of the forest. "We need to head north. At least I think so... what do you think?"

Sophie looked at Nathan and looked into the sky, "West. We need to go west."

"Are you sure?"

"I'm positive. I have a good feeling about it." Sophie started to lead her horse in front of Nathan and started riding fast to the west. Nathan followed her, not far behind. The rode out of the forest and found a dirt path leading the direction they needed to go. Sophie jumped off her horse and landed on the soft ground. "We need to leave our horses. They know the way home. But we need to be silent," she said motioning for her horse to leave. It ran off as Nathan jumped off of his.

"Okay...," Nathan let his horse run off and stood next to Sophie. "Why are you so sure about these things?"

"I'm not sure. I just have a feeling," Sophie replied looking around.

"So our entire survival and our parents is dependent on a feeling. That's a great thing to he-" Nathan said, interrupted by Sophie's hand clasping over his mouth. She held her finger to her lips and let him back behind the trees. She poked her head out and stared. The man walked past, pacing back and forth.

"Sophie..... Nathan..... I know you're here..." he said in a beckoning tone, "Come on out and your family will be spared. Nothing will harm them. As long as you come out of the shadows...."

Nathan looked at Sophie and whispered, "Sophie, we have to. It's our only choice."

"No it isn't!" She replied sternly.

"I'm sorry, but there's one thing you need to know. You aren't fully human. I heard the voice of your father yesterday. He said that he was a nymph. And he has nature magic. You're part nymph! You do have magic! Now, you can stay, but I am going with him. I see this as our only choice," Nathan stared into Sophie's bright yellow eyes and kissed her. Tears welled in her eyes as he started coming out of the trees.

"Ah, Nathan Elriyand. I see you know what's right. Where's Sophie?" Kasai asked him.

"Gone. She's not here. It's just me."

"Hmmm, okay.." Kasai touched Nathan's forehead and he fell. Kasai grabbed his sleeping body and slung it over his shoulders. Taking one last look around him he vanished with Nathan in his grasp.
