The door slammed. I did not know what to do. I try to quite my breathe as I hear the sound of hoofed steps stirring through the darkness of the halls. I didn't mean for this to happen, it was expose to be for a laugh or two, but now there was no laughing to be heard. It started as a regular boring day at school, going through classes directed by the chime of the bell. Me and my friends wanted to have some fun later that day. A game of hide and seek at the old school building they had found in the woods. We planned to scare one of the boys - a way to get back at them for constantly bothering them with small pranks.
It was soon night, we and the boys are now gathered at the building. The school has been here for a long time as it was over grown with vegetation. Moss and vines hugged the decaying brick walls and cobwebs covered the cracked windows. A wisp of cold wind blew across my skin as I gazed at the worn building, my hairs standing on end. One of the boys startled me back to the present, asking when the challenge was going to start. My friend told him it will start when they entered the building.
The inside of the old school building was as creepy as its outside, the halls dark with age and the once pristine floors now grey from the elements. It was like a horror scene, one of the boys joked, and we all laughed with him. Soon we picked out one of the boys, a guy from Texas and the football team, and told him to start counting as we go and hide. As he starts to count, we all start bolting through the halls and through the classrooms, trying to find the perfect spot to hide and wait to be found.
It took a while but we were found by the him, though we had a great time playing. But we soon notice that one of us were missing. It was strange, we remember that they were with us when everyone was found. It didn't make sense, we know she was here with us. She had entered with us, she had hid with us, and she was found with us. As we were standing in the hallway confused by where our friend were, we heard a noise coming from the dark. A voice, one that sounded like an old radio, spoke it's presence from down the hall. 'When there is one, there is many. For the humans, are a crowd.'
We did not know what that voice was taking about; all it did was give us more questions. But we did know what we were currently feeling. A primal instinct that is within all living beings - fear. We all ran, scattering across the halls and into the old broken classrooms as the sound of hooves clashed against the floor. I hear one of the girls fall behind me and the boy that was in front of me turn to go back. One of his friends tried to tell him to leave her and run, but he didn't listen - to focused on being the hero. He ran to whatever was behind us and tried to save the girl. We hear the sound of contact as we continue to run away from whatever monster we had awakened.
I had now separated from the others, hidden in closet in what seemed to me a science room. My heart pounding against my chest, making me fear being found by the sound of my heartbeat. Before long, I hear the sound of its voice. 'Half down, a few to go.' I don't know when it has gotten the majority of us, but this was not the time to be worrying about that. I had to find a way to get out before I was found. Then I heard the sound of its hooves getting closer to the room I hid.
'Come out child of man, for you can not be hidden forever!' The voice is out side the hall, if a miracle does not happen soon, my life will be at an end. To my luck, and the nervousness of one of my friends that I didn't know was close to where I hid, bolted out the door of one of the classrooms. The sound of them running caught the attention of the beast, it laughed as it started to charge towards them. My life is spared for the time being, but I do not know if my luck will hold.
