I creep slowly across the classroom, careful not to make noise. I can feel my blood flowing in my veins, burning with tension. I don't know how long I had hid in the closet, but it has been sometime since the panicked yells of my friends. I don't know if any of them are still alive, or if that monster had found them. I try not to think about it, I still need to worry about myself first. I do not want to be found, who knows what will happen to me.
I stand by the door, listening for any noise that would be coming from the hallway. I hear nothing so I hesitantly tilt my head to look outside. I didn't see any movements from the dark, the halls were still like frozen time. I tread softly out the room and into the hall, slowly making my way to the next classroom. It was hard to see in the hallway, the only light given was that of the moon shining through the broken windows.
I had reached the next room after what felt like hours. It was another science room, but this one seemed to still hold some supplies that were forgotten before the school shut down. I walk into the room, careful not to make the door squeak. I look around the room, trying to find anything that could aid me. And soon I found it in one of the old cabinets. A map of the school. The edges are slowly crumbling, but the main image is still readable. I crouch down behind some desk and attempt to create a path out of the school. I also try to plan a path that would lead to a supply closet, as I would need a weapon of sorts to defend myself.
After I had created the route, I began to swiftly cruise down the halls. The route that I have planned took into account an encounter with the monster, going through hallways that have multiple entrances. The last situation I would want to be in, would be cornered by that monster with no way out. My mind is buzzing with activity as the tension around me continues to grow; the slightest movement arousing my paranoia to no end. The first supply closet will soon appear, and I only hope that there is something useful that was left behind.
On the side of the hall, I see the door of the supply closet, worn but not yet decayed. As I grabbed the handle and pulled the door open, the settled coat of dust that laid upon the door fell like a blanket of ash. I tried not to cough as the dust drifted into my nose, still alert for noise.
The inside of the closet was mostly bare, except for the few broomsticks that were too broken to be used and left behind. I was a little disappointed as I sorted through the closet, but I soon found a box that was hidden in the corner. The box was made of cardboard and paper mache, seemingly made from an old newspaper, and was tied closed by what seems to be sisal twine. The twine was strange in itself, as sisal twine breaks down within 1 to 2 years. This building looks like it has been abandoned for a lot longer than that, judging by how thick the dust is. It was almost like it was newly tied and purposefully left in this closet.
This revelation made me realise that, even though it has been a few hours since me and my group, or whatever was left of them, had come into this building, there were no changes in brightness coming from outside. It was like we had entered a place where time was forever motionless. My blood turned cold. It starts to make my mind wonder if there was even a way out, but I soon ended that though. After all, there was no harm in trying.
I opened the box and in it were some strange items. There was a lighter, some matches, a leather bag, and what seemed to be a crucifix. The lighter, as I found out by spinning the thumb wheel, still had fluid in it and was working perfectly. The leather bag was the size of a standard handbag and was dark tan in colour. The crucifix by itself was strange, but what I found stranger was what it was made out of. It had similar weight to cast iron, with the weight about 6.8 to 7.8 pounds. The appearance was that of magnetite and had what appeared to be a glowing vein-like pattern. The light that was given off by the pattern was rather dim and it reminded me of the bioluminescence of deep sea fish.
As strange as it was, finding a glowing crucifix in a box, I must continue to move. Staying in one place increases my chances of being found. As I exit the closet, I once again hear the sound of the monster's hooves. I twist my head to look down the hallway, and there I found it looking into the classroom that was a few doors down. I held my breath as I tried to silently back away from the creature. As I start to put distance between myself and the creature, I stepped on a bug that was crawling beneath me. In the silence, the sound of the crunching impact was loud. Before I knew, the creature's head had spun to look at me.
