Chapter 7 - Chapter 5.2

The blob writhed in pain as tentacles were vaporized. A cylinder fell and the blob was revealed.

The fighters soon swung around and bolts of energy could be seen heading for the blob.

The blob, with its sensitivity to heat, was rather impaired by the molten ground drowning out it senses.

Still, it did not stop the blob from fighting back.

Long tentacles stretched towards the sky.

A few wrapped around tall buildings and the blob began to pull itself out of the remains of the sewers.

By sheer chance, a tentacle ripped through one of the fighters wings. No longer constrained by the tight spaces of the sewers, they were able to move much faster.

The blob, having pulled itself out the sewers was now hanging from the side of a building. An apartment complex to be precise. It was several stories tall, and several hundred feet long and wide.

With agile movements the remaining two fighters zipped around firing bolts of energy at both the blob and the tentacles.

The third fighter had collided with another building. If one looked closely, there was a tentacle snaking towards it. Slowly, the tentacle made it's way up the building and over to the fighter. If one looked closely, at the very end of it the tentacle split into three.

One had a metal spike. One was covered in wires and odd metal bits. And one had a barrel, around eight inches long extending from the end with a handful of wires connected to it.

The tentacle covered in wires reached into the empty cockpit.

As it twisted, a rectangular prism covered in complex circuitry was revealed.

The tentacle moved the prism here and there as it hummed with energy. In fact, you could say that energy was almost radiating from it.

After some time the tentacle pulled back from the building and kept going all the way back to the blob. The blob pulled the tentacle into itself.

Within the blob, changes were already occurring. Like before when the long gun barrels from the tank were formed, a similar process was now occurring inside the blob itself instead of parts of tentacles.

Normally, this process would take quite some time. However, there was a way to expedite it. The remaining tentacles quickly formed a complex net around the blob using the various buildings, streets and even itself as the foundations before growing eerily still. The remaining two fighters still zipped around trying to clear a path to the blob.

Within the blob, the Solarite Reactor practically roared to life as it went from glowing a soft orange to a harsh blue in a matter of moments. The casing could be seen visibly heating up. Despite this, the power that was being emitted was incomparable to before.

A process that would have taken hours at best, and days or even weeks at worst, was now finished in a handful of minutes. It did not come without a price however. The charred, crumbling, or melting remains of Orum surround a sphere about two feet in diameter. The Solarite Reactor had a dim a glow, somewhere in between red and white at any given time, and was weakly humming with energy now.

In another part of the blob a new piece of machinery, made of Orum had formed. It flickered to life.

As it did, the remaining tentacles suddenly surged to life once more.
