Chapter 22 - Chapter 22 - Goodbye

The sound of loud thunders woke me up from that frightening nightmare. My breaths were short and I was sweating bullets. As I try and steady my breathing as I looked at my arm. The tattoo had a fading bright blue color, soon turning to a normal black color. I also noticed something that my scales were pulsing a fire-like color and they almost had my whole arm. It looked like red armor in a way.

I rolled down my sleeve after observing my arm and started to look around the room I was in. It was the room in the castle. I took one more deep breath to completely stabilize my breathing. I placed my hand on my chest, feeling the fast beating of my heart. As my hand slid down on my lap, I turned to sit on the side of the bed.

"What...what was that?" I mutter to myself as I shook my head and stood up. I decided to shrug off the thoughts and decide to go on my day. I fixed my clothing as I go to the balcony doors, seeing the curtains sway in the wind. I put aside the curtains so that I could go and check out whats happening from a view.

I walked out and saw that the once fluffy sea of clouds now turned into a gloomy, grey plain of them as flashes of lightning were sometimes seen in them. I turned my attention to the town and saw the mana crystal floating in the middle of the island as it still pulsed fresh mana from it's core.

The town looked livelier and happier than it did, especially now that everything is rebuilt and put back into order. I took another deep breath as I closed my eyes.

"At least they are happy..." I comment as I lean on the balcony railings.

Seconds passed and the sound of knocking was heard on my door. I turned to face it and proceeded to walk and open it. Behind the door was a seemingly overly excited Princess General.

"Hey Mileena! How have you been?" Jessica asks as she waves at me. She had her whole armor on as it glowed a bright blue glow and hummed quietly.

"What do you want Jess?" I asked as I saw her huge smile drawn across her face.

She walked in and took a deep breath before she turned to me.

"I just want to say thank you, both of you..." She spoke

"For what exactly?"

"For everything! You helped with the town while Rhythian helped supply materials and mana to the crystal. Now, everything is ten times better than before!" She exclaimed as she seemed overly excited for this.

That's right...We are here for that reason...we can finally go home. Just as when I was starting to like this place too...

"Oh right! Rhythian is waiting for you at the castle gates. Just head down there when you're ready to head out." Jessica adds as she stretched her arms and went out the door.

I took a deep breath and scratched my messy hair. I decided to prepare for the day that Rhythian and I will say goodbye to the kingdom. I turned around to begin but a glimmer of a shine caught my eye. I looked to the table next to me and saw a box resting on top of a note. I picked up both items and read the note.

As I finished the note, I held the box close to my chest as a warm feeling overlaps my cheeks, almost giving me a smile.

Hours passed and I was sitting on a bench, fixing my boots as I looked around once more. I was really going to miss this place. I stood up and opened the gate as I walked through it. Rhythian was waiting on the bridge with a pack right next to him. A huge portal rests at the end of the bridge as it emitted a quiet hum of energy.

Jessica and some of the villagers were also waiting at the bridge. As I walked down the bridge, I scoffed and grew a small smirk as I stopped in front of Rhythian.

"You look happier than usual young draconian..." Rhythian teases as he pats and rubs gently on my head. I grew a small blush as I felt this. I countered the emotions by throwing off his hand and looking at him fiercely. He'd only reply to this with a chuckle.

I turned to the crowd behind me and walked closer. Some of the villagers were happy and gleeful, as to the kids, they seemed sad that I was leaving. One of the kids ran to me and hugged me. I knelt down to get to look at her face.

"Will you be coming back Auntie Mileena?" The kid spoke in between her weeps. I wiped away her tears and placed my hand on her head.

"Don't worry, I will. For now, take care of your grandpa for me okay?" I replied as I looked to the man standing behind her. It was the same man I saved from that fall a few days back. She then stopped crying and grew a gleeful smile as she nodded in agreement.

I stood up and looked at Jessica, who surprisingly, still had the same smile she had when she visited my room.

"Hey, take care of my hunk of junk brother over there okay?" She spoke out as she reached out for a handshake.

"Don't worry, we'll take care of each other." I replied as I grab her hand for a shake, but in fact, she pulled me in for a hug, and when she did, everyone joined in. I really am going to miss this place, despite only staying here for a few days.

After the whole group hug, I turned to Rhythian. He seemed impressed. He walked closer and reached out to my face.

"You have something on your face young draconian..." He spoke out as he wiped something from my face. I then felt my face and felt tears running down my cheeks. I was crying. However, this isn't like the time when I was young. These tears I was shedding were tears of joy.

I wiped away the tears and saw someone familiar at the edge of my eye. Someone who is truly obnoxious and annoying. Dylan Wylde.

I raised a palm to Rhythian, signalling to wait. I walked closer to him. He seemed startled when I started walking towards him. I stopped a few feet in front of him and placed my hand on my waist. Dylan looked like he was in the process of recovery as he had bandages on his arms, chest, and forehead. I scoffed and looked at him.

"Hey Dylan, since I'm going, take care of the villagers for me okay?" I spoke out, reaching out to shake on it.

Dylan looked like he had totally changed. He only simply nodded and shook my hand. I turned around and walked to Rhythian. I peeked behind me and saw him pose unnecessarily while feeling like he had achieved something huge. I totally changed my mind about him...

I stopped in front of Rhythian as he picked up the pack next to him and walked in front of the portal. I followed behind as Rhythian walked through the gate. As I took a step into the portal, I looked behind me, seeing the villagers, guards, Jessica, and Dylan waving goodbye. I waved back as the ray of the sun reflected a glint on the pin on my hair. I then walked through the portal, travelling back into the shed Rhythian and I lived in.

As my view was enveloped by streaks of white and an aura of blue, I was then sucked into thought. What would've happened while we were gone? To the house? or the half-dragons we saved? Well, whatever it could be, I guess I would see it in a moment.

As I went through the other end of the portal, I was stopped by a hunk of metal in front of me. Knowing it was Rhythian, I backed off a bit since the portal closed behind us.

"Rhythian! What's the big...deal..." I slowly stop myself as I saw the house we once lived in is now charred wood and rubble as non-humans were either hanged or massacred here as their bodies litter the whole field.

Bodies were found resting on nooses, on burning stakes, and on the once grassy field. Blood painted the ground and the trees as the smell of rotting bodies were filling the air, making it feel heavy and disgusting. A war banner of Yorthos stood in front of the house, signifying that this is now their territory.

I turned around to see the kingdom of Yorthos. Rage filled my body as I looked into the city. How could they do this...How!?

I dropped my bag and summoned my bow as I started to run towards the city. Rhythian then soon stopped me. As he did, I screamed for him to let me go, yet he kept holding on. As I kept screaming, my rage soon turned into sorrow, as I knelt down slowly, leaning into Rhythian's body. My tears of joy now turned into tears of anguish and vengeance as I let my emotions out while Rhythian hugged me tight, feeling my emotions.
