Echoes of a distant memory flood back into my mind as I drift in the darkness. Memories that I locked up for a reason came back to me, causing me to yell out to make it stop, but nothing came out; my voice has disappeared. As the memories kept getting louder and louder, I fell into a dark puddle of blood and dirt. I fell deeper and deeper in the pool, me yelling out and grasping for air. As my eye sight fades...All I could see is nothing.
I yell as I jolted up from a bed. Sweat and tears run down my face as I tried to stabilize my breathing. It was all a dream? No...That was a nightmare if I've ever seen one. I guess this is one of the results of suffering constant pain.
I regained my focus and have now noticed that I was resting on a bed. Quite the clean one at that. I looked around the place I was in to see that I was inside a humble room, not too fancy, and not too shabby. I tried to change my position to take a better look of the place but a sudden shock of pain hit me like lightning. I looked at my hand and saw the iron shackles have been removed and my injuries have been cared for and my body cleaned. As I ran my fingers across the bandages I could only feel a small bit of pain, unlike the time before I came here. I looked at the bedside table and noticed a tray of used bandages with a red tint on them, used scissors, and 3 flasks, 1 of which was filled with a red liquid and a note that read 'If you can read me, drink me'. In pure curiosity and confusion, I followed what the note said. I reached out for the red flask and took a better look at it. It seemed normal at first glance. I then took off the cork on top and a sweet fragrant smell went out of the flask. My eyes were glittering as I took in that fragrant smell. I looked inside to see the same liquid as before. It was like honey, but had the texture of water with a red color. I then took one more look before shrugging and drinking the flask.
After I downed the whole thing, I wiped away the droplets that were on my lips. Seconds later, a soft green aura surrounded my body. I giggled a small bit as I was enjoying the feeling of it. As the green aura faded away, I soon realized something...My injuries were completely healed!
My cuts were nothing but scars now, sickness no longer weighs my body down, my scales and one of my horns immediately grew back. Whatever was in that flask restored my body. As I felt my body readjusting to my new restored one I remembered a feeling that was taken from me ever since my parents were taken away. Not only I was healed, but I was free as well...
Seconds after, heavy footsteps could be heard nearing the door leading to the room. I didn't know who or what could come out that door so I quickly got hold of the medical scissors and hid them underneath the blanket whilst hiding myself by acting drowsy. The door then opened slowly and an armored figure came through it, but that armor was unique; It had a crowned helmet which had a veil and covered most of it's face, accompanied by heavy and strong silver and gold armor covering almost every bit of it's body.
His armor didn't resemble any of the kingdom's soldiers. It seemed familiar in a way but I couldn't figure out where I have seen it from. I lowered my guard as the tall figure came closer to me and sat on a stool beside my bed.
"Good Morning" The figure, which had the voice of a man, spoke out to me. I couldn't reply at first as the man had a deep but calming voice.
"You must've been through a lot if you can't even speak out to other people..." The man seemed worried about my current situation which caused me to look away from him.
"Oh,sorry, where are my manners. My name is Rhythian Yorthebius, and what might yours be little draconian?" The man, now named Rhythian asked, I was still a little bit wary about him, but knowing each other's name wouldn't be so bad...would it?
With a soft, quiet and slightly trembling voice, I reply. "M-m-mileen-a...Mileena D-draco-h-heart..."
"I see, Ms. Mileena, I'm so glad you are safe..." Rhythian comments as he looked like he let out a deep sigh of relief.
I was still suspicious about Rhythian because of how care-free the man is...Questions flooded my mind, but only one came out of my mouth. "W-why m-me?" I stuttered as I kept my head down. As I said the question, Rhythian leaned in. I didn't know if it were trauma or fright, but I flinched as soon as he did that. I was waiting to see what would happen afterwards. In the end, Humans will always despise Demi-Humans...
Seconds after, I felt his cold yet gentle touch on my head. He then proceeded to rub gently. This caused me to grow a surprised look and made me turn towards him. He then ran his hand from my head to my cheek and cupped it. His cold touch from his leather glove now turned to a safe and warm embrace. I looked at him despite the helmet covering his whole face, but despite that, I could feel him look at me with caring eyes.
"Because I couldn't help but notice a lost soul, begging for mercy in hopes of danger. You looked like a child who lost everything she ever known...I guess it was my duty to protect anyone who seemed to be lost in this kingdom, be it physically or spiritually. No matter the race, belief, or ethnicity..." Rhythian spoke in a calming voice as his words touched my soul and heart.
"So don't worry about anything that may seem dangerous...I will swear to protect you..." He added. This time, his words reminded me of what my mom and dad gave up just to protect me. This caused my heart to warm up, leading to me slowly bursting into tears. As I cried on the bed he cured me on, I leaned on his body, causing him to keep me in a warm embrace reminding me of everything about my parents. He kept by my side as I continued to cry out my emotions into his shoulder.
