After rummaging through all the shopping bags, Alisha finally settled for an informal olive green shirt that was very much similar to what she was wearing and paired it up with black jeans that were exactly her size.
Even though the clothes didn't look much different from what she wore, the feel of the fabric mesmerized her. On her slender fingertips, the clothes felt like butter. She now realized what exactly made the clothes from superior brands different from the ones that she bought from the local stores.
She would be lying to herself if she said that she didn't mind not having the rest of the clothes because they were all too beautiful and expensive to part. She looked at the rest and placed one blouse that she really loved inside her handbag thinking that it wouldn't hurt such big pockets to lose one more cloth.
She then cleaned her face, adjusted her hair and came out with the shopping bags. With a sad heart, she passed the bags to the men who were still waiting for her outside the restroom.
The men looked at her with a complicated expression, exchanged glances with each other and then finally asked her. "You don't like the rest of them?"
Alisha's mouth gaped open and then closed like a fish. Her lips twitched before she asked with disbelief and a slight bit of excitement, "What do you mean?"
"All these clothes are for you, so you can keep it. We have no use of them anyway." To her rejoice, the men brought her good news.
'So I stole that one top for nothing?' she thought to herself. But, even though her heart was rejoicing with pure joy, she kept it to herself and put on a careless facade instead. "Uh, well... if you insist so much I might as well keep it."
Both the men, "..." When did we insist?
Before they could change their mind, she walked ahead of them with the bags in her hand and found her way back to the Operation theatre. She went to the burly man who was on a call with someone. She poked him on his back slightly to gain his attention, which the man immediately gave her. "I shall leave now, it's late. My parents will get worried otherwise."
The man bowed his head and then spoke, "Alright miss, I will send a man to follow after you to make sure you reach back safely. It's not safe to go back so late in the area where you live."
Even though he didn't speak it out loud, the real reason was that he didn't want her to get in trouble because of their enemies. Because if they found out that she was the one who helped him to bring his boss to the hospital, they would surely come after her head. He kept his thoughts to himself because he didn't want to scare off the poor girl.
Unaware of the possible danger that she might have put herself in, Alisha walked to her scooty in the parking lot, too happy to have gotten so many free clothes. She stuffed the packets in the trunk beneath the seat and then got on the vehicle to ride to home.
As soon as Alisha got home, she saw a car that had followed her all the way from the hospital turn around and leave. She knew it was that's burly man's underling who had followed her. Not giving it much thought, she shook her head and went inside.
As soon as she got inside, she saw her mother Rekha sitting in the living room looking glum. "Where were you, Alisha? Do you even know what time it is! And why were you not answering your phone?"
Alisha was used to her mother's complaints and she didn't mind them one bit. She knew she said all of it out of concern. "I told you I will go to Nancy's place, did you forget?" Alisha said while removing her shoes and putting them in the shoe rack next to the door.
"And you also told me that you will be back by eight, did YOU forget that?" Her mother asked, with her arms crossed against her chest. "And what are these bags?"
Alisha looked at the big bags in her hand and laughed immediately. "Yes, I left on time but I found an injured man on the street. I took him to the hospital and in return for helping me, he gave me all this." Alisha waved the bags in her hand happily. She deliberately left out the part about guns, because she didn't want to scare anyone at home.
"Are you insane? Why do you stop midway to help people? What if he had turned out to be a fraud?" Her mother asked jumping up from the old couch, which made a creaking sound due to its old wood.
"Well he didn't and that's all. Mom I am hungry, let's go eat, okay?" Alisha said rubbing a hand on her belly, indicating how hungry she was. She walked towards her when she suddenly remembered something and turned around "Has dad arrived?"
"No, his train is running late, he won't be arriving before morning. Krishu has already eaten so it's just you and me. Oh, what did he give you by the way?"
"Clothes" Alisha chirped happily. Why wouldn't she be after all? They were all beautiful clothes from expensive labels, which she could never even dream of buying.
