Chereads / Pity Me / Chapter 18 - CHAPTER 17

Chapter 18 - CHAPTER 17

"I was six years old and my brother took me with him on a trip to Pea Soup beach with his friends. They even made fun of Francis because he brought his baby sister along, and they said this infront of me! Probably because they thought I was too young to understand." Luna pouted,

"But Francis knew better and told them that if they had a problem he'd leave and ofcourse they apologized because the beach house they were staying in was ours."

She smiled as she spoke, clearly reliving the memory but Jade kept on frowning.

"I knew I was being a burden and I really didnt want to come along but my parents were out of the country on a business trip and Renè was at a clothing store opening in paris and Francis never left me home alone." Luna leaned her head on the wall and closed her eyes and Jade watched her.

"I stayed inside at day time when all them were outside and came out at night when they were sleeping so that I wouldn't annoy them more, but one night I forgot to go back in and fell asleep on the beach.

When I woke up in the morning, my brother was draping a blanket over me. And he told me that since I was out here I must not be a vampire after all." Luna chuckled.

Jade carefully took a single hair astray from Luna's pony tail and pulled it.

Luna hissed, "There has got to be a better way to get my attention."

Jade smirked, "This one is most effective."

Luna untied her hair so the pulled strand would ease out and stop hurting.

"Your brother seems like a nice guy." Jade commented sardonically .

"He is." Luna replied, smiling softly, "He's warm and safe, like a... pillow fort! Not that strong but to you strong enough to hold off the world for you."

"He was a bit over protective." She added.

"Is. He is overprotective." She corrected herself.

"You were right the first time. He was overprotective. Past tense." Jade told her strictly.

"Why would you say that?" Luna muttered, clearly hurt.

"Because its been 6 months and brother dearest still hasnt come to meet you." Jade replied bitterly.

"Im sure he has a reason."

"No Luna, the truth is that either he is embarrassed of you like the rest of your family - " Luna slowly shook her head silently willing her to stop. She had yet to confront the reality of her family situation.

" - or he doesnt believe that you're innocent."

"No. He will believe me." Her lips quivered.

"Oh wake up Pièrce, its been half a year and the only person that has visited you is that sad old grandma of yours. If your brother were to actually believe you - "

Luna tried to stop her, "Please just drop it." But Jade ruthlessly continued.

"He would have to ask you first but there hasnt been a single peep from his side!"

"He's probably busy! Just leave him alone." Her whole body shaked and both of them were shouting now.

Please dont attack him, hes the only family I have.

"Thats no excuse!" Jade softened a bit, almost pleading, "Oh Luna the worst thing you can do to yourself here is live in denial."

Luna covered both her ears and looked away, trying to control her breathing. The moonlight coming in from the small window reflected off the crystal tears rolling down her cheeks.

Jade jolted Luna's shoulder but she shook her head.

Jade sighed and forcefully removed her hands.

"Listen to me."

Luna struggled to free her wrists from her grip and shook her head vigorously.

"Luna listen- listen to me." Jade tried to calm her down.

"Leave her alone Jade," Brie said from the lower bunk, "Luna come here we can start this novel together."

Luna started for the ladder but Jade grabbed her arm, "Okay fine I wont talk about your brother."

"Let her go Jade, she'll learn these things herself, you dont need to educate her." Brie gritted out.

"Luna Pièrce you were first charged with first degree murder but when you couldnt prove your innocence you warranted a self defense plea. But again there wasnt enough evidence so the jury didnt fully commend the desultory plea, and you ended up getting FIVE YEARS of juvenile detention"

Luna again tried to free herself from Jade's hold but Jade pinned her to the bed.

"No matter what the court ruled, anyone who saw or read about the case were convinced that you killed that man and pleaded self defence as a cover up and the court went easy on you because of your rich parents."

"I know! I know! You dont have to dictate it!" Luna cried.

Luna continued to struggle and Jade continued to press her down.

"Is this the truth?" Jade asked.

Luna stilled.

"No!" She shouted in Jade's face breathlessly, while glaring at her.

"I believe you." Jade said softly.

Luna started crying and Jade hugged her.

She sighed and patted her hair, "You'll be okay. In time, you will."

Luna started crying harder, her new thoughts hurting herself.

Why is it that a stranger can believe me just like that and my own family cant?

Jade pulled away and picked up a book from behind her.

"Here."

Luna gasped with delight shining on her face despite her red eyes and wet cheeks.

She leaped on Jade, "Thank you thank you thank you!"

It was the book Brie had contributed and Jade had picked up.

"Huh, did you really think I took it for myself? As if." Jade scoffed sarcastically.

Luna remembered how Brie had asked her to come down.

"Hey, Brie." She called down, "Can you put a pin on that novel offer?"

Brie chuckled, "Sure."

Hey guys!

Are you all okay with 1000 worded chapters or do you prefer them to be like 1500 + ?

Also, is the story boring you all? Should I make it more exciting or is it fine?
