Chapter 8 - Trees and Global Warming (Part 7)

We have been talking about Global Warming and Trees.

In this chapter, we will discuss 'Green Washing'.

First, I should describe several meanings of 'White Washing'.

If you had an older building, it could accumulate dirt, mold, algae, and animal waste. Give the building a good clean and it would look better, but not perfect. Dark stains in thin cracks just defy cleaning.

A good painting with a cheap and thin 'white wash' paint give the impression of a fresh building.

"White wash" grew in popular use, as a way to describe excuses made to cover political dirt.

"Green Washing" is where politicians and companies publically announce how they have seen the error of their ways. We will be much less polluting, now.

The big regional power companies announced this week that they will be 'Carbon Zero' in just years. From thirty years to ten years, among them.

This follows on a review that says only 80 percent carbon free is even possible in ten years.

Promises. Words are very cheap when it will be decades before anyone could check those promises for honestly.

The promises appear in thick multiples, when laws are being drafted. The companies say "No Need to Regulate." We promise to solve that problem ourselves.
