Chapter 6 - Chapter 3: Confession

With everything that has happened to me, and all of my friends. I had a feeling of guilt that weighed on my chest heavier than a boulder. Since I and my friends came up with a plan to become a superhero team, I haven't told anybody about what I and my friends were planning. Also, I believe my dad still thinks that a random citizen saved him instead of him knowing that I saved him with my powers.

I wouldn't know because he's been in a coma since after the accident and we're afraid that he won't wake up, so I've been coming over and using my heat signature radar to see if any of his vitals drop down so I can be prepared and warm him back up. It turns out, with my ability to sense heat signatures, I can also reheat those vitals to keep someone alive by heating the cells and the atoms in a person body causing them to speed up, allowing the body to heal itself. It's like a healing factor that I tested on Caleb when his powers went haywire and he froze himself, I returned his body heat and it somehow reanimated him. So now I watch over my father and keep him well and alive.

It took a while, but my father had finally woken up. He was a little delirious from all the anesthetics, but he managed to sit up and asked what had happened. Seeing my dad seem well was like watching a sunrise on an African savanna, or seeing a baby penguin hatching from its egg. Either way, I was happy to see my dad well, although there was something on my mind for a while.

I wanted to tell my father about my power and my team. But I decided to tell him on one condition. I wanted to get permission from my friends and make an agreement.

So, a few days prior, I had a conversation with Jack. I mentioned that I wanted to tell my dad about our secret because he was gonna find out about the big secret anyway. Jack sighed and asked, "Why are you telling me this?", "Because your the guy who likes to spread information. It's kinda one of your keen traits that everyone likes and dislikes." I replied, "Ha, you got me there. Alright, I agree, but what about the other guys?" He said, "I figured they just agree with me." I said, "Fine" and then things were set.

Back to when I'm with my dad, I was going to tell him seriously. But then he looked at me and asked, "Hey son, what's the matter?" I then said, by accident, "I'm just thinking of a way to tell you I have superpowers." He looked at me, and I then realized what I had just said and I did one of those dramatic slaps to the forehead. Then he just starts laughing hysterically and said, "Yeah, I kinda figured that out when I saw the watch on your wrist." I stared at him with the most confused face you will ever see.

I sat there for the longest time, ignoring my dad as well as my girlfriend and my mom in the corner, who was also visiting. And then I thought he guessed my source of power.

I thought of a way to test him to see if he was just guessing. So, I asked him, "Okay, so, if you believe me, and you know about the watch. Then you should know what my power is. So, what is it?" He immediately replied, "Heat manipulation and being able to create fire." Again, I was speechless, he answered the thing on my mind, "Okay I know I just blew your mind, but it's hard not to know what I got as a birthday gift for you is, and what it can do." It sat in my head for a bit, but then I figured he knew more about our situation than I do. So, I asked him about everything. And he went on explaining.

"Okay, so I'm guessing the day I got shot, that's when you found it." I nodded my head, and then he continued, "Huhhhhhh… Okay, so you see, the watch was a gift that I was saving for you as a graduation gift. I hid it in our backyard so it would be somewhere I can keep it close in case of emergencies, while not having it somewhere it can be stolen. It was an important item that I used back in the day, and there are other watches just like those, which each holds a different ability, and they are out there somewhere safe where no one can find them." I then looked at him and showed Janet's watch and said, "You mean like this one!" He sat himself up and then asked, "How did you get that?" I answered, "Well, it started after you got shot three months ago..." he stopped me and yelled out, "Wait, I've been in the hospital for three months." We all looked at him and nodded our heads. He sat back and looked at mom and asked, "Is what he said true?" At the time, we weren't supposed to tell him that he was in a coma for so long. So, mom told him "Honey, we're sorry, but what Michael said is true. You've been in here for about three months, however, it's not as bad as you think." He calmed down and asked, "How much is the bill?" We looked at him and laughed. I explained to him, "Dad, the bill is nothing to worry about, I and my friends are rich." He sat there and now with a look that resembled a grown man listening to their kids speaking slang, or the face you get when you've turned in your assignment and you're still failing the class. Not the point, anyway he was shocked and kept mumbling "How… how… how?" Mom tapped him and she nodded toward me. I answered for dad

"You see, my friends and I found the watches, and with our powers. We became entertainers for the public, and now we're overnight sensations with a ton of money, but no one knows it's us. And I paid the bill under my stage name, Hades. He sat there like he had been doing, then I explained, "We've worked hard to get the money to help you out, and now that it's paid off. My friends and I are going to try and protect society, by becoming, Superheroes." Then the weirdest thing happened, my father started to laugh again.

At first, I thought he was thinking of something funny, but then he looked at me and said, "Son, those powers were meant for just you, I don't  know why your friends have them but I say it's okay that you have a team." Then I became confused and I just stared at him, and I thought. "This is… all this time… my friend's powers were supposed to be my powers. Their destiny was my destiny, and they could have had normal lives instead of living with the curse that comes with power." It was hard to wrap my head around it, but I took it in and asked him what he meant by what he said. He answered, "To answer that, I have to go back a long time ago. But before I do that, know this, what you hear from this point on stays here. And doesn't leave this room, unless you okay it with me. Okay!" I nodded, and he went back and said, "Okay, then the tale of Titan, will begin to unravel." I then thought about how I was glad Reeve didn't take the name. That could have been a close one.
