You know when things get crazy you try to stay calm. Well, in this instant, I wanted to run up a wall and yell out, "What the S***!" to the world.
As a twist of fate, and how fate wants to hit me upside the head. My friend Jack Whiley emerged out of what I assume is a portal, and is now freezing… oh god, I forgot we're on a mountain top.
To keep him from freezing, I lit myself and warmed him up. Though, as weird as things have been, he didn't respond to my fire form. He didn't mind and sat down.
After that, he then asked with a calm yet terrified tone, "Michael...What happened and why are you on fire?" I kept my cool and told him, "I don't know what happened to you, but some stuff happened with my family and my dad got shot in my house. So I went to go stop the burglar from killing my mother. Then I found this watch I'm wearing now, it gives me the power to control fire and manipulate my heat temperature. Which is how I stopped the attempted homicide and saved both my mom and dad." He gave me a nod and just sat quietly.
Jack was my friend since we were kids, I knew that he wants to keep a level head because if he doesn't, he freaks out. So he just told me. "I understand now, thank you." After what he said, I just sat down myself right next to him and chilled.
I then noticed something when I took another look at him to make sure this wasn't some sick dream. I noticed that he was wearing a watch too, but this one was orange.
I told him and he took a good look at it, then gave me a look of shock. He tried to take it off but fastly realized that it was useless. So he asked, "Michael, what am I supposed to do now?" And I just told him, "The best thing to do now is probably to try and see what powers you might have. So we know what we are dealing with." He asked, "How do I do that?" I told him that it was like thinking that the power is a switch and you turn it on. He tried it, and he had an amazing outcome.
His power was the ability to make his body into a rock. like, The Thing. He looked at himself and said, "Well… this kinda kicks a**." He took it a lot better than I thought he would.
He then tried to power down but ended up losing all the rock and just turned his skin hard as a rock. And by that, I mean that his skin wasn't all bumpy. His skin was more rigged like a rock. He tried to power down again, and it finally worked.
We discussed what happened and then talked about what will happen next. Then when all things settled down, the portal opened again, and the same thing happened as someone came out. This time, it turned out this was my friend Caleb Saturn. He's my friend who was a lonely student who befriended me after I invited him over to hang out.
Although he wasn't alone.
Behind him was my other friend Reeve Ender. A cool guy who was always there for me. He's like my best friend, but I had no best friends, I couldn't choose one over another. He was hanging out with Caleb when light appeared in front of them. The same situation happened to them whereas soon they entered, a different watch attached to their left arm. And I'm guessing that with these watches, there will ultimately be a different power hiding inside them.
They came up to me and asked, "What was going on?" I then told them the spiel I told Jack about what had unfolded, and they were up to speed. So they tried their powers.
Caleb went first with the blue watch, and he manipulated the leftover ice around us and turned it into water. So we figured he can manipulate water, like from Avatar.
Side note, it's not the one with the aliens. It's the one where almost everybody in the world could manipulate an element whether it be of water, earth, fire, or wind. And there was one person who can manipulate all four elements.
Anyways, next, Reeve tried out his yellow watch, and he shrank down to the size of my pinky, it wasn't very impressive. He then grew back to normal size and complained to me, "Why, I mean, why do I have such a lame power?" though he didn't notice something about him until I pointed it out that he had grown a foot taller. I then pointed out that he didn't just have the power to shrink down but to also grow bigger. He tried it out and… the outcome was unbelievable, I mean, hang on… it was unbelievable because, to be blunt, he grew to the size of the mountain.
Everest has a height of about 29,035 feet or 8848 meters. Reeve was not as tall, but taller than the mountain...I mean, he fell back on the ground at the bottom of the mountain and stood up… he looked at us and noticed that we looked like ants to him. The thing about the growth that amazed me the most was that his clothes, meaning his T-shirt, Pants, Shoes, and even Underwear, had grown with him. All our jaws dropped and Reeve just looked at us and laughed, but that caused us to start to blow off the mountain. So to make him stop, I threw a giant fireball at his stomach. He didn't like that, so he shrank down to actual size, and hit me in my arm. Though, at the moment, I was on fire and then burned his hand in the process.
While we were discussing what was happening, Jack decided to show his power. So with a silenced face, he showed his power to turn into a rock monster. Everyone was amazed by Jack's power but was not as impressed by it as they were compared to Reeve's power.
As soon as everyone got settled down and got comfortable in my heat. The portal opened again and brought out another one of my friends named, Josh Black
Ironically last named since he's white.
He was my go-to guy as he was skilled in many things and helped keep me in shape. He came out and had pretty much the same reaction I expected him to have, but something different about him. He was nearly naked because he was apparently about to take a shower. So he was more freaked out than the others were. I felt bad for him so I deactivated my Fire Form, gave him my clothes and then reverted into my fire form.
After Josh got dressed, I explained what was going on and what had happened like with the other's, and he understood. But then he asked, "Can you do anything else?" I answered, "Well, there is my heat sense." He looked like he didn't get it, but then I said, "It's like looking through Infrared goggles." he understood that, so he then wanted to try his powers.
It was a neat power, it was weird seeing it for ourselves, but it turned out fine.
Josh had the unique ability to change his form into anything he wants. Not like a normal shapeshifting power, it was another version where he can become someone else or something else and become a perfect copy. And he was as excited about his power as a person getting an Oscar. It was great, he was always a cheerful guy, his reaction was to be expected.
Then I took a minute to think to myself as I thought
"Man, everyone is adjusting to this better than I thought they would, it's weird. However, now I have a group of superheroes who are also my closest friends. I don't think it can get any more freaky than thi…." Before I could finish my thought, the portal opened again with another person coming out.
This had happened enough times that I just looked at it and turned my head to the side and looked at everyone else get excited to see who will come out next. It took a minute, but the next person came out and I looked back and the person who came out the portal was my girlfriend, Janet Witeman. She is my love, and I've known her since we were kids, but we didn't start to date till about two years ago, on my birthday. She went out on a date with me as a birthday gift and we've been dating ever since.
Being shocked aside, I was happy to see 'My love' which is what I call her. It's a family tradition to call a significant other as, 'My Love' and we both liked it.
Besides that, I decided to greet her with a warm welcome. So I placed a big lit fire around everybody and went out of my fire form to hug Janet. Then Reeve said, "Hey, why didn't you do that in the first place?" Because I was in my fire form the whole time keeping everybody warm and cozy. So I answered Reeve, "Because, I like being in my fire form, the power has a tingling sensation that I think feels good." He had his answer and sat back down quietly. I then looked at Janet, and I was in awe, as she looked at me and looked both happy and confused, that's when I realized I was in my underwear. That didn't bother me, and I tried to talk, but all that came out was a "Jan...…" I then took a deep breath and said, "Janet, what are you doing here?" She was still shocked about all of this, but she answered, "Well..I…was just sitting down on my couch when I heard the news that you were gone. I went out to look for you and I looked all over Seattle, though my effort led to nothing. Then after that, I ended up back at my house. So I waited to hear if you turn up somewhere, but then this light thing opened up in front of me, and I thought this is what happened to you. And now I'm gosh who knows where." I then explained what was going on the best I could and I told her what had happened and how we ended up here. But she still had questions, "I get it now, but wait, why were we chosen to go through?" I answered her, "I don't know." She then asked, "Okay, then why are you in your underwear?" I pointed to Josh and she understood, then asked what was going to happen to all of us. And I told her, "I don't know, but I will make sure nothing happens." She stayed calm and I asked her, "Do you know how my father is doing?" She nodded her head and said, "He's fine, but I'm sorry to say that the last I heard about him, your mom said that he entered a coma soon as he was placed in a hospital." I then was shocked, but I didn't let that upset me. With Janet by my side, I started to lean in for a hug. That's when the next thing I knew, I was flying off the side of the mountain.
Keeping my cool, I activated my Fire Form and flew back up the mountain. With my anger and confusion out of the way, I turn off my powers and said, "Well, it looks like you power lets you manipulate your brain's mental force, Or in simple terms, mind-bending." Then out of nowhere, Janet runs over to me as she then jumps into my arms and hugs me.
With all that had happened with my family, a hug was something I needed, so I sat down and hugged her for a while. But everyone else looked at us and it kinda just ruined the moment. Then, out of the blue, Reeve said, "Hey Michael, you know there might be something else to it than what we recently found out about her abilities." I looked at him and noticed I was still hugging Janet, so I came to my senses and got up. Then I said to Reeve, "Okay, so you think there is another ability to Janet's powers. " He retorted, "It's just that I thought that with all of us having a special ability, I thought that Janet might have one too. So I thought if we want to see if she does, then we should explain how it worked for all of us." We all understood and found it hard to believe that Reeve, of all people, thought of it. Then they began explaining.
The first one to explain was Jack because it seemed the most logical since he had his watch longer than the rest, other than myself. And he took a second to think, and then explained, "With me, I guess I feel like my power activates, but when I tried to power down, I guess I did a half-ass job and ended up making my skin as hard as a rock. But I don't think that this will be of any help." Then Reeve wanted to explain next, so we let him go before Caleb. He said, "Okay, so with me, I mentally thought of my power activating. However when I tried to deactivate my power, I didn't notice it at first, but I had accidentally activated my special ability. As with Jack, I don't know if this helps." So then it was Caleb's turn, as he went in front of Reeve, and said in his normally deep voice, "With me, it's just like with Reeve. I mentally activated my powers, but it was different for me, I didn't try to turn my powers off. I wanted to try and see if I had more than just one power, and of course, you know the result as I changed the solidity of the ice around us ." I had an idea of how to activate Janet's potential power. I was going to ask Josh, but I didn't think he had a special ability with his powers like us. So, I thought "Whatever, I had my answer." And Janet looked at me and everyone else, then said, "I don't know if I should try. I'm worried about what will happen to you guys, I don't want to end up hurting any of you like how I could have killed you just now Michal." I walked up to her and said, "Hey, it's okay, that's exactly why I came here. To get away from anyone who came near me to keep them safe, and that's why I'm confident that you will be okay to try. There is no one here you can hurt. My idea was to have Reeve, who can grow to the size of the mountain, carry everyone else. While I keep everyone warm in my fire form, and everyone will be alright." With that plan in mind, she gave in and agreed to my idea. So the first thing was for Reeve to grow and carry everyone but me in his giant hand. Then I fly up to his hand and kept the guys around me nice and warm while controlling my fire so I don't burn Reeve in the process. And while all of this was going on, Janet will give off a mental blast around the ice that Caleb will make before we leave as to signal us when it happens. and then she tried her special ability.
We set the plan into motion and waited maybe ten minutes before she signaled back to us that everything was A.O.K.
We might have overestimated the time it would take her to figure it out. Then we went back on top of the mountain to see what had happened. Though at first, all I saw was Janet standing in front of us. Then she said, "Well, now I feel bad for making you do all that preparation." We didn't know what she meant until she closed her eyes, and showed us why she felt bad. It was an upset in my case because her special ability was that it let her body become invisible. Again, an upset for me because I made this whole big deal about her simple power.
With everything out of the way, we all laughed and shared some smug looks at each other. Then I said, "Alright, now that we're all situated with how our power's work, how about we train a little bit and then head back home well adjusted." They all yelled out "Yeah…" and we trained hard to overcome our powers so we could return to society.
