In this strange, modern world, fantastical monsters suddenly appeared throughout Earth and wreaked havoc across cities. Earth's armies were being pushed back and overran by these monsters, and it seemed as if all hope was lost. However, many humans were suddenly granted strange magic from an unknown force. With magic in their hands, countries from across the globe banded together to tackle this crisis. They created an organization known as Hunter's Society and recruited those with special talents to help defend Earth.
A decade had passed since the appearance of monsters. Earth had gone through an incredible revolution with the help of magic. Countries were united together and at peace. Technology had increased leaps and bounds, and people had gotten stronger since the past. Interestingly enough, there were new races such as Dwarves and Angels that lived amongst the human population. However, there were occasional monster breakouts, but the Hunter's Society was ready to defend and protect the people.
In some random place in the USA lies Willow City. It's an ordinary city with a population of less than 100,000. Only one branch of the Hunter's Society was here, but there were privately-owned businesses that hunted monsters as well.
Why this city? Of course, its the home of our main heroes Rocky and Arlo. A Duo ready to take down any monsters with a flick of their fingers!
And so their tale begins...
*****
"Hey, Rocky!" A scrawny man yelled. "We got goblin trouble!"
He quickly hung up the telephone and ran from his unorganized desk. Papers fell from his desk by a small gust of wind as the man ran. This pathetic-looking man was Arlo. He had frizzled, brown hair as if lightning had just struck down on him. The only thing that got going for him were his glistening, emerald eyes. Other than that, his looks were considered below average. Arlo had a shaved beard. However, it did not come without painful razor cuts on his face due to his poor 'shaving techniques'.
Arlo wore a white suit reminiscent of 80s fashion. However, stains riddled his messy suit from god knows what. He had a cigar in his mouth and blew a large puff of smoke as he ran across the small, filthy office.
The office was filled with strange, magical machinery used for monster hunting. It was like a laboratory of a mad scientist. There were soda bottles and empty pizza boxes lying across the floor. One of the ceiling lights were burned out, but nobody bothered to change it. On the walls were posters of women wearing bikinis and costumes in alluring poses. Some of them were elves, beastkins, and even dwarven women. This office was basically a haven for hoarders.
"For real? Finally!" A young teen babbled. He accidentally swallowed a piece of a doughnut as he shouted in excitement. The teen began choking, and he quickly pounded his chest. The piece of doughnut flew from his mouth as he sighed in relief.
"I've been waitin' for some action!"
This young teen was Rocky- a man with the face of a delinquent. He had this scary face since he was a kid. He was often avoided by others due to fear and never made many friends. Rocky had spikey, red hair and bright, golden eyes like the rays of the sun. His best friend would often call him 'flameboy' because of his hair. Rocky wore a black vest with a white t-shirt underneath and blue jeans.
Its been nearly two weeks since he had been hired by Arlo as an Assistant Hunter. His dream about being a full-fledged Hunter for Hunter's Society was crushed when he failed to pass the hunter's exam. Three times to be exact. Rocky was kicked out of the building, and he could never take the exam again. His life became meaningless, and he sulked over his uselessness. However, Rocky had a second chance in life when Arlo took him up in his arms at his brand new company. That company was called, "Monster Hunters Inc."
"Hurry up!" Arlo ordered. "Losing precious time means losing precious money!"
"I'm comin', ya damn geezer," Rocky stuffed the rest of the doughnut in his mouth and followed Arlo.
Both men stopped in front of an enormous oil painting of Arlo, himself. Arlo pulled back his sleeve and pressed the touchscreen on his watch.
An artificial voice spoke from his watch, "Fingerprint confirmed. Opening safe lock."
The oil painting instantly flipped around which revealed a large arsenal of magic weapons. There were guns, staffs, swords, and knives that perfectly lined up on the wall. You name it; he had it.
"Come here, my precious baby," Arlo laughed creepily as he grabbed a shabby, wooden staff. He tightly hugged his staff and kissed it.
Rocky looked away in disgust, "Get a room, ya withered alien!"
"Oh, shut up and let's go!"
Rocky quickly grabbed his magical pistol and attached it in his holster. He hastily stuffed a couple of essential equipment into his bag before running towards the garage with Arlo. A grey van, in awful condition, was housed in the garage. The van's bumper was nearly falling apart, but it was crudely held by duct tape. The passenger window was cracked, and there were scratches all across the van. The van had a large logo on its side that read, "Monster Hunters Inc." The two men got into the van.
"C'mon. Start, you pile of junk," Arlo continued to turn the ignition with growing frustration.
Arlo smacked his steering wheel, hoping the pile of junk would start as Rocky rubbed his eyes in irritation. After an excruciating, long moment, the muffler rumbled as black smoke spewed out from behind. The van was finally running.
"That's my girl!" Arlo laughed with joy. "The best car a man can ask for."
Rocky raised an eyebrow, "I thought ya said it's a pile of junk?"
"That's blasphemous," Arlo denied. "Never in my life would I ever slander this beauty."
Arlo pulled a pair of aviator glasses out from his suit and wore them. With a smile on his face, Arlo pulled the van out of the driveway. Before he even got to the road, the front tire suddenly blew. Rocky and Arlo sat there in shock with their eyes wide open.
"Uuhhhh-" Rocky slowly looked at Arlo.
Arlo's eyes rapidly twitched.
"FUUUUUUUUU-"
*****
Rocky and Arlo finally arrived at a two-story house. They had managed to replace the front tire with a spare one. They got out of their van and rang the doorbell.
"Do you remember how to handle goblins?" Arlo asked.
"You just bash their heads in, ain't it?"
"No, you bumbling idiot!" Arlo smacked his own forehead. "Goblins are natural thieves, so we have to lure em' with bait."
Rocky crossed his arms and looked away, "I knew that..."
Arlo rolled his eyes, "Besides. My super wealthy self will be providing the bait this time."
"Like what?" Rocky scoffed. "20 cents?"
"At least I have money."
"Your cheapskate ass wouldn't bother to pay me, anyway!" Rocky shouted.
The door creaked open which revealed an old, decrepit woman. She was nearly half the size of both of them. The old woman had curly, grey hair and wore glasses over her blue eyes. She gazed at Rocky and Arlo with caution. Rocky and Arlo immediately stopped arguing and put up fake smiles. You could practically see a star shimmering from their white teeth.
"Who the hell are you two?" The woman asked in displeasure.
"We're from the Monster Hunters Incorporation," Arlo pulled out a business card from his wallet. "The one you called about a goblin. Are you Carole?"
"That's me..."
Carole grabbed the card from him and took a quick glance at it, "You sure don't look like monster hunters to me."
Arlo coughed, "Ma'am, I can assure you that we're monster hunters, alright."
"But you two just look like a bunch of-"
"Just show us where the goblin is, granny!" Rocky interrupted her.
Carole squealed in fear and quickly let them inside of her home. Arlo squinted his eyes and glanced across her ordinary home. Then he dropped his equipment bag onto the floor. Arlo slowly walked around her living room and caressed the furniture. Out of nowhere, Arlo stuck his tongue out and licked the sofa. He then stroke his chin while deeply contemplating something.
Carole whispered to Rocky, "What is he doing?"
"Um... it's an ancient Chinese secret," Rocky awkwardly chuckled.
Carole looked at Rocky with a deadpanned face, clearly not believing him.
Arlo loudly inhaled and then spoke, "Yep. That's a goblin, alright."
Arlo noticed an orange strand of hair on the sofa and picked it up. He brought it close to his face and twirled the hair around.
"Bring me the analyzer!" Arlo shouted.
Rocky quickly brought the analyzer from the van and gave it to him, "Yer welcome."
Arlo placed the hair inside of a tube and insert it into the machine. An analyzer is a machine which can detect the exact characteristics of monsters by their DNA samples. It's an incredibly useful tool for hunters to determine a monster's strength and magic capabilities.
A bright blue light shined from the machine as it scanned the Goblin's hair. A series of electronic-beeping noises were constantly emitted from it. The machine rumbled and crazily bounced around as white smoke spewed out. Then it suddenly stopped, and everything went silent. Carole stared at the machine with twitching eyes.
The machine spoke, "Analyzed... Species identified as Goblin. No magic capabilities. Level 1-tier strength confirmed."
"Pfft, what a weakling," Rocky sneered.
Arlo smiled, "Alright, let's go get this bread!"
