Chapter 42 - A job

"Wake up Nora." Tina poked her elbow at Nora's shoulder, "She'll catch you this time."

"Hmm. Yeah I'm up." She straightened herself. Tina smirked, "Man you aren't afraid of her anymore."

"No." This time she slumped down her head on the table and drifted off.

"Ms. Williams would you care to wake up." Mrs. Adams said.

"Nora, come on." Tina shook her by the shoulder.

"Nora Williams." Mrs. Adams shouted again. She jerked awake, "Yes ma'am."

"Stand up, what do," She was interrupted by a knock at the door, it was Luke, "Sorry to interrupt, but Mr. James called for Nora Williams."

"Tell Mr. James, she'll be there in a moment. I have important things to discuss with her." She glared at her.

"I'm sorry ma'am but it's quite urgent. I was told to bring her immediately." He smiled. "Mr. James is waiting in the faculty room, please ma'am if you could allow her."

"Go." She growled at Nora. She grabbed her bag and got out of her seat. Mrs. Adams threw a scornful look at her and she scurried off.

"What was that all about?" Luke asked.

"Nothing new. Happens all the time." She waved her hand. "Why did you call me?"

"I didn't. It was Mr. James, someone's here to meet you." He looked at her. She pointed at herself, "Me? Who is it?"

"Look for yourself." He shrugged. "We're here anyway." He entered the faculty room and went straight to Mr. James' cubicle. Nora followed him.

"There you are Nora. Look who's here for you." Mr. James beamed. The person in the chair across the table turned, "Hello Nora, remember me? Sheldon O'Connor it's nice meeting to you again. Come have a seat." He smiled. Nora looked at Mr. James and he nodded, she settled down on the chair beside him.

"Nora, Mr. O'Connor, has especially came to meet you. He has something for you." Mr. James looked at her.

"So Nora," Sheldon spoke, his tone firm, "back at the Hackathon I was highly impressed by what you did. And today I looked at the virus you created with my own eyes and you impressed me again. I am a person who seeks for talent and you are exceptional." He paused.

"Thanks?" Nora shrugged.

"I'll come straight to the point. The reason I came here today is to offer you a job."

"A job? To me? But I'm still a fresher."

"Of course it doesn't mean you start right away. You'll start in your second year, as an intern at my company, Living Technologies, you heard of it?" She nodded. "You decide the department, pick up anything you're comfortable with. I don't want anyone else steal you away that is why I came here directly from the airport with the contract." He took out an envelope from the inner pocket of his coat and pushed it towards her, "You have no idea how much attention you attracted after what you did. Please go through it once and just contact me for any details." He put his card on the envelope. "And I hope your answer is yes."

"Uh. It's too much for me. I mean your company is huge, are you sure you want to hire me?" She blurted.

"Our company has a different procedure for hiring interns. They have to go through a rigorous training period. And here I am offering you an internship, it only means I see something in you, and even if you don't end up becoming a permanent employee, I'll be more than happy to have you for our internship programme."

"Can I take some time to think about it?"

"Of course take all the time you need, a week at most. Also about the training period, if you have any questions ask Luke, he was one of the trainers at our company last year, he'll walk you through it." He looked at his watch, "I got to hurry, I still have a meeting to attend." He got up from his seat. "Thank you so much Mr. James. Thank you Luke for coming on such a short notice and Nora I hope for a reply soon." And he was gone.

"You got a job offer Nora." Mr. James said gleefully. "What will you do?"

"I don't know. It was totally unexpected." She shrugged.

Luke sat down on the chair beside Nora. "Luke, what do you think about this?"

"Well it's a good opportunity, now it all depends on her." He said.

"I almost forgot Luke did you manage to link the database to your project?" Mr. James asked.

"I'll take my leave professor." Nora got up.

"No wait. I think somebody might need your help." He smiled. "So Luke, were you able to that?"

"Umm no. I'm having a little trouble there." He shrugged.

"Nora can you help him out? In return he can tell you about Living Tech." Mr. James smiled.

"Okay. I can do that." She shrugged. Luke looked at Mr. James, "If that's so, then I'm okay with it."

"That's great. Good you're helping eachother. You both can leave now. And Nora make your decision wisely." Mr. James smiled.

"So how is this gonna work?" Nora said tearing open the envelope.

"My project is on my desktop, you'll have to come to my place. If that's okay with you." He looked at her.

"It's fine." She said reading the contract, "Damn look at the salary $4,000 per month. I'll be rich." She laughed.

Luke shook his head, "You satisfied with only that?"

"For now. Yes. Also an achiever like you won't understand." She smirked. He cocked an eyebrow. "Look you're a bachelor in computer science, an entrepreneur, an author of a bestselling book, a trainer at one of the biggest tech companies and you'll soon be master in applied mathematics. And I think the list will only continue to grow, Mr. Osborne." She looked at him.

"Well Miss Williams, you really are a keen observer." He smirked. "Now getting back to the topic, you're free on Saturday?"

"Yes."

"Come to my place the at 4. Is that fine?"

"Yupe. But I don't know where you live."

"I'll message you the address, don't get lost." He added.

"I'm not an idiot. But how do you have my number?"

"During the Hackathon, for communication purposes I had everyone's number."

"Okay, then Saturday at 4 I'll be there. I got to go, I have to tell Tina about this." She held up the envelope and left.
