Chereads / The Conundrum / Chapter 48 - I like you

Chapter 48 - I like you

"Wake up Nora. Tell me everything what happened. I need to know." Tina shook her wildly by the shoulder.

"I'll tell you in the morning. Stop it." Nora said half asleep.

"Wake up now!" She pulled the covers off her. "Tell me everything." She narrowed her eyes. Nora sighed, and got into a sitting position. She narrated her the whole incident half asleep and when done she slumped back into her bed. "Go away. Let me sleep." She tugged at the covers.

"But Nora.."

"Any queries will be answered tomorrow morning."

Tina didn't wake up in the morning, Nora slipped out easily. She headed straight to her class and was the first one in there. She chose the last row, putting her bag beside her, she put her head down and within minutes fell asleep.

She woke up maybe an hour later when the lecture started. It was computer science and Mr. James was extremely enthusiastic today and gave the whole lecture in one breadth.

"Nora any progress? You're planning to take up the job?" Mr. James asked.

"Maybe I will accept the offer. I am not completely sure though. But I'll let you know." She said.

"Sure you would, and I'll be repeating myself again, take a wise decision." He smiled. She nodded and was off.

She was on her way to library when someone pounced on her, "I finally got hold of you. Answer all of my questions." Tina growled. "And I know your schedule you don't have any class for the next two hours."

The interrogation went on forever, the girl there was still unknown and Luke was declared a jerk by Tina. "Okay Nora I have a class now and don't worry I'll find that girl no matter what." She announced.

"I trust you." Nora waved at her.

"I'm sorry for what I did yesterday." Someone said from behind her. Nora turned around, it was the girl from yesterday, "do you mind if I sit?"

"No."

"I was too agitated yesterday. I didn't realize what I was doing. I'm really sorry." She pleaded.

"Well it's already done now, so no need to worry, it's okay." Nora shrugged.

"I understand what he said was all a lie, I think I might have crossed my limits to make him do something like that. So I wanted to start anew. I am Andrea and I am here for business major."

"I'm Nora, here for computer science major." Nora replied.

"Thank you so much for accepting my apology. I wish I could talk more but I got to go." Andrea got up, "See you around." And she hurried off.

Her phone buzzed, "the lecture is cancelled for today." The message read. Nora smiled, "This is what you call a good news." She messaged Tina and asked her out to Big Joe's, she replied instantly with a thumbs up emoji.

She grabbed her bag and headed to the dorm. Luke was walking down from the other direction of the corridor, she instantly turned around and started walking in the opposite direction. "Wait right there." He ran up to her, "you're running away from me?"

"Yes I am. After what happened yesterday I would like to keep distance from you. I don't wish to endanger myself." She shrugged.

"Hey I said I'm sorry, I even asked Andrea to apologize to you. What else do you need?" He snapped.

"Of course, I actually thought why would she come and apologize to me in first place, you were the one behind this. I told you to stop interfering and why would you listen to me? You are someone who has everything under control, right? You could have asked anyone to help you out but no, you dragged me up in this mess. Now let me tell you one thing clearly I am not interested in this drama of yours, next time if you plan to do something this stupid, look for somebody else." She literally stomped her foot at the last words.

"What if I say no?"

"Huh?"

"What if I get you involved every time? What are you going to do?" He took a step forward.

"Then be ready to face the consequences." She shrugged.

"I'm fine with it." He stepped closer.

"The heck? Are you even listening to yourself?"

"Yes I am and I mean every word of it. I won't stop getting you involved, you will be the first one, and I'll make that sure."

He was so close that Nora had to raise her head to look at him, "You don't have to get close." She stepped back but he held her by the wrist, "leave me." She tried to pull herself away but his grip was strong.

"You are stubborn." He smirked and brought her wrist to his mouth and placed a gentle kiss on it. Her mouth dropped open and she pulled with all her might, "What the heck is wrong with you? Let go."

"I am not out of my mind, but I think my mind is finally in the right place." He smirked. "I like you." He let go of her wrist. She didn't run away but stood there frozen, her eyes opened wide, if not for the situation she would have looked comical. "I like you Nora." He looked her in the eyes.

Finally regaining her senses she looked up at him, "I need to go. Please." She said in a small voice. He stepped aside and she paced away from him. He looked at her run away and sighed, he turned and took his path.

When she reached her room she was already breathless. Her heart was beating out of control, she slumped down on her bed. She put her head in her hands and let out a frustrated cry. "This is not right. Why would he say that?" Her eyes fell on her wrist, she stared at it for a while and touched it with her other hand. She growled and buried her face in the pillow and screamed, letting out all of frustration. Then she just laid there, staring at the ceiling. Her phone buzzed but she ignored it, it went on for at least five more times but she ignored it every time.

Her head was throbbing by the time night fell, laying there her mind was flooded with a thousand thoughts but none was calming. A knock on the door caused her to pull the covers over her head and shutting her eyes tightly. The door swung open, "Nora you stood me up?!" Tina shouted and moved to her bed. "I know you're up, get up." Nora didn't budge, Tina held the covers and flung them over, "You better have a good reason girl."

"I didn't feel like going. That's it." She said.

"And why didn't you answer my calls?"

"Didn't hear them, phone's on silent."

"Why aren't you looking at me." Tina turned her over, "Whoa, you don't look good. Everything's okay?"

"Yeah, just tired. I need to catch up with my sleep and I'll be good." Nora shrugged. Tina gave her skeptical look, "Is it?" Then she lunged at her and started tickling, "Tell me what's going on. Come on." She laughed.

"Don't. Stop." Nora said, but Tina didn't listen and continued to tickle her. "I said stop it. Don't touch me. Leave me alone." She yelled.

Tina looked at her with surprise, "I was just joking, don't be like that."

"Just let me be. I don't want to talk about it." She covered herself again and laid down. Tina sat there looking down at her and after sometime she got up.

Nora lay under the covers, regretting everything she said, but didn't say anything, she feared about making things worse and when Tina got up, she sighed in relief and shut her eyes again.
