Chapter 6 - Chapter-5

"Hey Emily". I whipped my head to the loud voice. Jake was grinning widely, waving like a fool just a few feet away from me.

Some students were looking at us back and forth with distaste and I resisted the urge to shout at them, Mind your business.!

When he reached me, his grin was still intact. "Hey, I was wondering, let's go out for that coffee you owe me". He pants out.

I pondered it for a moment, Maybe that's a great idea, A fresh air. I smiled "That's great. But what about Maddie and others?" I ask.

"Don't worry. They will be fine". He says nonchalantly.

I nodded and grin widely at him "Let's go" I say and he led me to the parking lot, he opened his door for me like a gentleman and bowed. I giggled and slid in.

Jake can be so charming.

He slid in beside me at the driver seat and the car roared to life. Then we headed to God Knows where.

The wind whipped my hair and I closed my eyes smiling widely.

"So. What's going on with you and Cayden?". The question made me whipped my head to Jake.

"What do you mean?" I ask, too quickly.

He looks at me from the corner of his eyes "I see him talking to you this morning". His voice sounded accusing. What the hell?

"Where?"

"Denying eh?". Although his voice was playful again, his stormy eyes said otherwise. What's with him?

"Since I don't know what you're saying, I don't have anything to deny". I retort. My mood taking a darker side. If you don't shut up Jake, I swear...

"Sure whatever floats your boat" He mutters.

"Okay Jake. What the hell is wrong with you assuming that there's something between me and Cayden?" I snapped fed up.

"Nothing." He answers quickly.

"Tell me." I demand.

"It's just.." He sighs and met his eyes with mine for a moment before going back to the road.

"He's bad news. He's not good for you". He confesses. Seriously? I was a little angry at him for judging Cayden. Yes he's a jerk! But I know there's a reason why he became like that. Everyone has a reason.

"How can you know he's not good for me?" I mumbled, my eyes wide when I realized the words escape my lips before I can stop it. But I don't regret it.

"Maybe he's got a reason for behaving like this. Everyone has. You cannot judge a person without really knowing them". I  continued. And I almost laugh at myself for defending Cayden when all he does is annoy me.

"Is that what you think? That we judge him by his behavior?" Jake asks , his tone unbelieving, but he didn't look at me in the eye.

"That's not what I mean".  Well I meant it.

"Look. Just stay away from him. I'm just looking out for you. Emily". He breathes and I nodded numbly. And the car became awkward just like that.

"Here we are". Jake's voice became more lighter when he stop the car by a small cafe. His eyes lit up when we go out of the car.

"They have the best coffee and desserts here". Jake says. The storm in his eyes was already replaced by happiness. "Come on". He grab my hand and pulled me inside the cafe.

"Hi Jake". One of the worker, a girl in her mid 30s greeted him with a warm smile. Jake smiled back.

"Hello, Charlie.".

"And who might this be? Your girlfriend?" Charlie asked giving me a warm smile, her eyes gleam with teasing.

"No. She's my friend. Emily." He says and I smiled at her.

"Nice to meet you". I say. I like Charlie, she had an aura of friendliness.

"The feelings mutual. Go sit. I'll come real quick.". She says then dismissed us with her hand.

Jake led me to a corner, and I can see the outside world from the glass. People were walking hastily.

"Hello Emily. You still here?". Jake wave his hand in front of my face. When I look at him, he was grinning again.

"Yeah. Sorry. What were you saying?"

"I said, what would you like?". He indicate Charlie standing by our table with a pen and paper. I blush, embarrassed that I zoned out on them. She must have waited for me.

"Um I'll just take a chocolate fondue" I say smiling up at her.

"Any other things?" Charlie asks. I shook my head. "No that'll be all"

"You sure you only want that?" Jake probes further. I nodded my head eagerly and grinned at him.

"The usual for you right?" Charlie asks Jake. And Jake nodded too.

After taking our orders, Charlie left with a smile.

"So, do you have a plan for this Saturday?" Jake asks.

I think about it "None that I know of". I reply and look at him "Why?" I ask.

"We're going to a club this Saturday. I was wondering if you'd like to come?" He says, "Maddie and the other girls will also be there". He adds.

I stop going to clubs for a long time. But then, I don't want to waste my time. But, I really missed the feeling of freedom. Maybe just this once. It won't hurt. I guess.

"I don't know Jake. Clubs aren't really my thing". I lied. But he seems to not know that I'm lying.

"Oh come on Emily. It'll be fun. I promise. Please".. He gave me a puppy dog eyes and pout his lip. I almost laugh at his attempt to look cute.

"I'll think about it". I conclude.

Jake grinned widely at my answer "I promise. you will not regret it."

After a minute, a delicious looking cake was placed before me. The sight almost makes me drool.

"Hey. That look tasty. Mind if I taste it?" Jake asks snapping me out from my thoughts.

I look at his plate, my plate looks far more tastier.

"Hmm. How about No?" I poked my tongue at him and he just shook his head and smiled.

"You are so much like Maddie". He comments.

I just grinned at him "No sharing for me"

After we finished our lunch, Jake insist on paying. Even though I said it was my treat, he doesn't relent, so I just let him pay. And we head back to the campus.

I flopped down on the bed on my stomach when I reach our dorm and released a satisfy sigh.

"Tired?" Maddie asks in an amused voice.

"Mmmm". That was all I could manage to say. Tired doesn't cover how tired I am.

Maddie chuckled "Oh. Right. Where did you and Jake go during lunch?" She asks.

I open my eyes and look at her, her face was scrunch up in an adorable expression of curiosity and amusement.

"What makes you think I went out with Jake?" I ask.

"Oh really.?" She chuckled "I saw you driving off with him, still avoiding the question?"

My face heat up "Well, I was just paying off my debt". I mumbled

"Debt? What debt?" She asks

"It's just.." I paused struggling for words to narrate the story as short as possible "Debt". I finished lamely.

"Okay?" She raised an eyebrow at me.

"Anyway, what's going on between you and Jake?" She asks.

"He's a friend". I say closing my eyes.

"Well, I don't believe you" she says.

"Really, He's a friend. I like him as a friend". I breathe. It's true !!

"Well, he doesn't seem to think that way". She mumbled but I heard it, I decided not to probe her further cause I feared it would not be what I like.

Jake can't like me right? Right.!

I like him as a friend, and he will always be a friend.
